y’all I have never fallen in love so hard with a horror game before, still wakes the deep is so GOOD. It’s full of heart and meaning and it’s so spooky and chilling. Sorry I know I’ve gushed about it before but I love it so much. Because at the center of the story is love!! And that’s what all good stories have at the center.
Caz wants to go home to his family but he can’t because he’s trying to keep them safe because he loves them! His best friend he tries to keep safe because he loves him!! (do NOT talk to me about Roy’s death it’s so tragic. He didn’t even get killed by the monster, it was entirely preventable. his insulin was just a couple meters away. He could’ve walked but no he couldn’t because the creatures. He was a good man, caz loved him, ye hear??!!!) Caz loved the crew, he tried to save everyone he could! He wanted to save gibbo, (one of the most tragic monsters to me, I think he had most of his mind left but didn’t understand it) I just ahkrhandksjdk. So good. Also the visuals are a whole different post. Ok byeeee I’m gonna go now
#ramblings#still wakes the deep#sorry broskies I’m not done talking about it ig#but honestly it’s such a well made horror game it doesn’t rely on jumpscares for the horror part#it keeps you on edge the whole time#even in the beginning when you have no clue anything’s wrong! because it’s the North Sea and that’s scary enough!! and also big ol oil riga#*rigs#and you can’t see what’s down there oooooo I hate the ocean actually

For your Yugi Raises Jaden AU, I would love to see how the DM gang reacts to Jesse and Jaden's crush??? If you ship spiritshipping
Oh I’m so excited to talk about this. Look over here for the beginning of Spiritshippjng in this Au and will pick up where we left off.
So Jaden calls Yugi once a week. The two are super close and he likes talking to his Dad. It’s also just nice to have someone in his corner when things get rough. He knows he can always ask for help (he’s just awful at actually asking)
But the day after his duel with Axel he goes to call Yugi and asked Jesse to come with him. And this is BIG because all the other characters know that Jaden doesn’t like having anyone around when he talks to his dad.
So the two get all cozy on the roof and call Yugi. (Note:Jesse has no clue who they are calling besides they are Jaden’s Dad. So he’s super shocked when he sees Yugi)
Yugi is also surprised. Jaden has been super serious about not telling anyone at duel academy about his family. So to see someone else with him is surprising.
Now their reactions
Yugi
Yugi is surprised at first. Because 1. His son never calls with anyone and 2. Why is Jesse Anderson at Jaden’s school. He knows about Jesse. If Pegasus lists him as the 4th greatest duelist in the world in cannon (probably the 5th in this Au because Atem is here) then there is no way the DM crew aren’t at least a little aware of who the kid is.
But Jaden introduces them with a “hey Dad I’d like you to met my best friend Jesse!” “Jess this is my Dad Yugi Muto.” And Yugi knows this is special. Jaden hasn’t referred to any of his friends as HIS best friend yet. Sure they have claimed (and fought) over that title but Jaden has never used it. Until now.
Yugi is friendly and welcoming and is able to strike up a conversation with both boys. Asking what Jesse is doing at Duel Academy as he knows Jesse is from North Duel Academy. And Jesse is sitting there a little in awe that the King of Games knows who he is. They talk about the transfer program. How Jaden and Jesse met. What they’ve done together.
And see Yugi is not an idiot. He can see the soft look in Jesse’s eyes when he looks at Jaden. He can see the way his son lights up around Jesse. He’s never seen Jaden like this when discussing his other friends. Yugi is a strategist, he knows how to read people, and he can tell that these “best friends” won’t be just “best friends” for long
I’d like to think he’s taken the video call on his laptop. So his phone is in his hand and he’s furiously texting Seto, Atem, and Mokuba, as they are the ones in the building, trying to get one of them to come and join him on this call. (We will talk about them in a second)
Over all Yugi likes Jesse. He knows he’s a great duelist, but talking to the kid shows him he’s got a good heart.
He is very respectful of his cards, and his ability to see spirits is new information but good information, as Yugi knows how much the Spirits mean to Jaden, Atem, and himself.
He knows how lonely Jaden has been and even if he’s wrong and this doesn’t progress to be anything more, he’s happy his son found someone he trusts this much. Because introductions them to Yugi, revealing his identity as the ‘prince of games’ is a huge deal to Jaden.
He just hopes that Jesse doesn’t betray that trust. He’s putting his faith is Jaden’s choice and he hopes it’s not the wrong move. He knows just how much a betrayal of this level with crush Jaden.
Atem
Atem is the first one to respond you Yugi’s text messages. (He always comes when his Aibou calls. And he’d never ignore a message about Jaden, he’s also the one not currently working in a project)
He walks in pretty early in the conversation, making himself known as soon as he walks in and greets Jaden. And he instantly sees why Yugi was texting them asking for them to come join the call. Because why is another person with Jaden right now?
Again he knows of Jesse. Had watched his tournament. Had heard about him from Pegasus. He did not expect him to be hanging out with his Nephew. Their little prince.
He’s not mad, just surprised. But Jesse had always seemed like an honorable duelist, and now that he’s had the opportunity to talk to him, Atem likes the boy.
He’s impressed with Jesse’s ability to see spirits. Even more so with how he treats them, “they’re my family.” He thinks with a little training Jesse could probably make them physical when he summons them.
He’s even more happy with what he sees from Jaden. The way his eyes light up. The way the two boys look at each other. Atem is trading glances with Yugi because they can both spot what’s happening.
At the end of the call he likes Jesse. He’s a fantastic duelist, seems like a kind boy. And has made a strong enough impression on Jaden to have the boy introducing him to his family. And that’s the most telling part of all.
Atem trust Jaden’s judgement. He hopes that Jesse will be the friend Jaden’s always long for (maybe he’ll be more, but Atem’s not one to put pressure on other people’s relationships)
Mokuba
Mokuba was actually working when the call took place. He was able to join towards the end of the call.
He did a hard double take because, why is someone else here???
Mokuba is scary.
Not in that he’s trying to intimidate Jesse. Oh no he’s very pleasant to his face. But Mokuba is looking up EVERYTHING about Jesse Anderson. He knows everything. Where he was born, his parents, school history, all social medias were found, and I do mean all. Probably had his medical records to.
Mokuba just letting the conversation flow while he’s doing the world’s most in depth background check. Because that’s a stranger sitting next to his nephew. And while Mokuba is the nicer of the Kaiba brothers, he’s just as vicious when he wants to be.
To be fair he’s done this with all of Jaden’s friends and duel academy. As soon as Jaden mentions someone Mokuba and Seto have a file on them. They haven’t done anything with them, yet. But when Jaden finally tells his friends who he is, if things go poorly, Mokuba and Seto have plans….
It is the fastest he’s ever put one together. And he has to admit he likes Jesse. The boy balances Jaden well.
Mokuba knows how lonely it is to grow up as a Kaiba. And while Jaden’s childhood was very different. It was still lonely. Mokuba’s glad Jaden finally has a friend he trust.
But he’s also catching the soft eyes Jesse is throwing Jaden’s way and he’s adding it to the file. He’s got to tell Seto everything later.
Seto
Seto is not on the call. Yugi’s message was very calm. “I’m on call with Jaden, if you’d like to join.” Nothing to cause panic. And while Seto would normally drop everything to spend time with his family, he can’t always.
He was in a big corporate meeting. Something he couldn’t leave. Though he did play with the idea of opening his family’s video chat and just putting himself on mute, listen in with an ear bud. But ultimately he decided against it.
Mokuba sends him a message later telling him to “call me when you’re done.” (Mokuba knows Seto’s schedule)
Seto call Mokuba as soon as the meeting is over. It’s extremely late and he assumes that Jaden and Yugi’s call is over by now, he’s right. But you can imagine his surprise when he calls Mokuba expecting a business update, or some gossip from the dweeb squad that he totally doesn’t care about (he does) but instead is greeted with “Jaden got a boyfriend.”
He breaks his phone.
Just crushes it (like the water bottle in DSOD)
He quickly realizes that he can’t get any more information since he did that and rushes to Mokuba’s office. (The two were heading home together anyway) and storms in there demanding to know what Mokuba means. “If this is a joke I’m not laughing” it is in fact not a joke. At least not entirely.
Mokuba tells him all about the call with Jaden and Jesse. And while Mokuba was only there for the tail end of it, he’s calling what he sees. But don’t worry Seto, I already background checked the guy. (Hands over giant stack of research)
The ride home is spent talking about Jesse Anderson. Looking at his family, his history, his dueling record, anything Seto can think of. He’s not above crushing this kid in every way imaginable. He’ll do it with his wealth and power, or demolish him and his precious deck on the dueling field.
Once they get home he storms toward his and Yugi’s room. He needs more context and information. Mokuba has provided a lot but he wasn’t there for the whole call. Yugi was. He’s also great at reading people. His husband will definitely have some insight on how to best crush this boy.
Yugi sees Seto storm in and before he can ask what wrong Seto is ask five different question about how to best crush Jesse Anderson. And okay, nice to see you to. And part of Yugi is amused. He knows how Seto is. Finding enemies everywhere, waiting for the worst. This is Seto protecting those he loves. But it’s misplaced right now.
Yugi calms him and they talk about the whole video call. Yugi doesn’t think Jesse’s a treat at all, but he’s not going to stop Seto from coming up with his back up plans if he’s wrong. But right now their son has a friend that he trust, just a friend (for now).
And it does help to calm Seto down. But he’s not going to trust this kid until he meets him himself. He’s planning to cancel any meetings next week that way he can be here for their son’s next video call. He wants to hear about this kid from Jaden himself.
Yugi know Seto is still on edge, but there is something else Jaden talked about that has him worried. Professor Viper and his Bio-bands. He was concerned after Jaden and Jesse told him about feeling tired after the duel, Jesse even mentioning that Jaden passed out after his battle with Axel. And that they weren’t the only students feeling this way.
Yugi and Seto both know something is up. There not the type to sit around and wait for something bad to happen. Time to look into Professor Viper.
Joey
Is not a part of the video chat but hears about it by the next day.
He’s so excited that Jaden’s got a friend he trust enough to bring around them. Thrilled.
When he finds out that there maybe a crush, he’s fine with it. He trust Jaden. But if Jesse ends up hurting his littlest buddy well, Joey’s coming for him.
But he’s not to worried. He hasn’t met the kid yet, but from what he hears from Yugi and Atem he seems to be a good kid.
Tristian, Téa, and the rest of the Gang are much the same as Joey. Happy for Jaden and waiting for more information. Because fight now the boys are just friends. (Please calm down Seto)
But they are incoming things about Viper that are concerning.
The next time they call him has joined the group and they are getting ready for Adrian’s dueling party. Jaden and Jesse are getting closer but they’re both worried. After all Hasselberry and Jim were both hospitalized after they fueled each other. Yugi insists that they don’t participate in Adrian’s party (they weren’t planning on it) and Seto is ready to fire just about everyone at the school. (Again)
But they still need to figure out what Viper is doing. Seto can’t just show up at the school and fire Viper. How would he know what was happening at the school without Jaden telling him. The Bio-bands aren’t in and school documents that are being sent to Kaiba Corp. Viper’s done a great job at coving his tracks. Walking in and asking why students are getting hospitalized so often might work but again, how would they know that? They need a little more time. But until then Yugi and Seto tell the boys not to duel with their duel disks until they figure this out.
Another week passes and this time when Yugi calls Jaden he doesn’t answer. (The crew is going to find Viper) and normally Yugi would wait for Jaden to call back, he can get distracted. But with everything going on Yugi knows that’s not the reason Jaden isn’t picking up. Something happened.
One text to Seto ‘Jaden didn’t answer.’ Is all Seto needs to ready a helicopter. He’s going to Duel Academy and taking care of this. Yugi, Atem, Joey, and the others are coming. They’re done waiting. They’ll call it a surprise exhibition or something but they are going to that school and getting to the bottom of this.
If only there was a school when they arrived.
In n conclusion the relationship is to new for any of them to take to hard of a stance on it. But their feelings drastically change once the students are sent to the spirit world. Even more so when Jesse is the only student who does not return.

What’s a roleplay blog whose writing style you admire?
@trickstercaptain - One of my oldest rp friends and someone who’s writing I have always admired. Lottie is simply a very talented writer. I don’t even know where to begin, but I guess the biggest thing that comes to mind is that they are excellent at ‘show don’t tell’. I’m obviously most familiar with their portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow. He’s not the most emotionally honest character but they manage to portray his complexities in such a well fashioned manner. They do that for all their muses though. They’re someone who prefers to do deep dives on their muses and really get into the nitty gritty of what makes them tick. Aka my kind of person.
@hlsng / @cravensw0rth - It can be especially hard to capture a characters voice but this is something I’ve seen jayne do very well. When I read the dialogue of their replies I clearly hear the characters voice behind each. Furthermore, each muse they write is made distinct in their replies. You can sense Guillermo’s apprehension or Laszlo’s passion through their writing. I don’t know, they’re just someone who has been a more recent (but very welcome) addition to my dash.
@munsontm / @goldenngore - I’ll admit, sometimes I read Frankenstein’s thread replies just for inspiration. They’re an excellent writer but what stands out most to me is that they do a great job of setting the scene and having the environment interact with their muse. So often if feels like two muses are interacting in vague black hole, but Frankenstein knows how to color in their threads and really pull you into the scene.
What’s a roleplay blog who’s an absolute joy to talk to ooc?
@lighthouseborn - Hannah is a really fun person to talk to. They have so many ideas about Henry, Shipwreck, and the PoTC universe at large. I always love to pick their brain and read their dissections of Henry. They just have so much passion for their muse and it can be contagious.
@musecraft / @harringtontm + @trickstercaptain - The two people I talk to on a near daily basis. Lottie and Rosemary are the bomb-diggity
What’s a roleplay blog you love whose character you didn’t know until you started writing with them?
@spynorth / @piraticalwit - I still have no fucking clue who Lucas North is or why you occasionally call him John Bateman. I technically knew of Hook but not your Hook and at this point I feel like anything OTHER THAN your Hook would be a disappointment. I don’t know what the point of this is other than me saying that I love you, Lucas, and I hope one day you’ll rp a muse I’m actually familiar with (but also I hope you don’t because it’s funnier this way).
@azmenka - LISTEN I’m on the wrong blog for this because technically Maron has only interacted with Teague, but I wanna say that Hannah has done such an excellent job with Maron Greyjoy. Technically he is dead in the books so it was impossible to know the character. But at this point I don’t care. They have saved Maron from GRRM’s grimy clutches and developed him into a splendidly smarmy character whom myself and Teague have grown to enjoy immensely.
What’s a roleplay blog whose dedication you admire?
@musecraft - Rosemary is one of the most creative people I’ve met on this platform. They have quickly become one of my favourite people to plot with and their ability to mold different muses into a variety of verses is unparalleled. Like, they do such an excellent job with developing each muse in a variety of verses and seeing how it all turns out. It’s like watching master chef Gordon Ramsey except instead of hurling insults at you, they’re throwing words of encouragement and hugs. Truly a fabulous person and a fabulous writing partner.
@matriiiarch - Someone I’ve admired from afar for a few months. I’m a sucker for muns who are able to weave cohesive plots across a thread and set up established timelines, lore, canon, etc. They’ve managed to do that with their Gomez and I find it really splendid to read/watch their threads together develop. I think they’ve built something very unique on their blog and it’s a joy to have them on my dash.
@therelentless - I’ve said this before but pluto has taken a comedic character and given him layers while maintaining his character voice and overall personality. They have kept Nandor funny while fleshing out his backstory. They have expanded his character while not shirking away from what makes Nandor such a mess to begin with. They have really dedicated themselves to keeping Nandor at his most authentic self and it’s always nice to see someone so dedicated to developing their muse without changing them for the sake of plots or ships or whatever else. Pluto is someone I would want to follow even if I wasn’t a fan of WWDIT because I simply admire how much they care about their muse and doing him justice (which they do).

Zuko & Katara's Relationship Dynamic
This is like the third or fourth time I've tried to write up this post so please bare with me.
Oh wow. That video. Hopefully everyone has seen it now. Not only did it articulate arguments I've been making for years, but it also brought up ideas I had never thought of or noticed before. Watching that and watching the second half of Book 3 again (because it's my favorite) made me want to redo my zutara dynamic post.
I'm going to be using the tiny bits and pieces the show gave us to see how Zuko and Katara's relationship looks and how it would look if they gave us more because...Bryke really fucking hated zutara. I mean, I guess they did.
Katara is compassionate; Zuko is empathetic
A lot of anti-zutara arguments have said that Zuko and Katara could never be together because they would constantly fight and hate each other and it end sooner than later. Not only does this actually describe maiko, but that argument would need to ignore the characters' actual character.
One of Katara's biggest character traits is how compassionate she is. She has a drive to help others and ease their pain. Whether it's getting Aang out of the iceberg or healing a Fire Nation fishing village, Katara will go out of her way to help someone in need.
Katara: No. I will never ever turn my back on people who need me.
Zuko is very emotional and passionate person. As much as he tried to hide it to appease his father, Zuko does want to open up and connect with people. Unfortunately, aside from his uncle, most of the other people he knows are like Zhao and Azula. Not the most understanding of crowds. But because of this he can pick up what people are really thinking and feeling. Think of it as a defense mechanism he developed growing up around people like Azula.
Get these two kinds of people together and you get the crystal catacombs scene. Katara lashes out at Zuko until she breaks down. When she does Zuko opens up with empathy since they have something in common. This creates the beginning of an understanding between the two. Zuko uses that to finally open up to someone who isn't his uncle and Katara listens and reaches out to help. Contrast to the first episode of Book 3 when Zuko tries to voice his thoughts and concerns to Mai and she...doesn't really care.
Something similar happens during The Southern Raiders. Zuko figures out that Katara is taking out her anger of being separated from her father by The Fire Nation onto him and even connecting her mother's death to him.
It's not the first time Zuko has done this either. He easily figured out that Sokka was planning on going to The Boiling Rock. He does it again during Sozin's Comet when he tells Katara that Aang needs to figure out what to do about Ozai by himself.
There's a noticeable pattern of behavior by the time Sozin's Comet arrives. Zuko voices his concerns about meeting his uncle again and Katara is right there to help him through it.
Zuko's empathy combined with Katara's compassion creates almost a cycle of understanding and emotional vulnerability that the two can't really get with anyone else. One notices the other having concerns or problems and goes to give comfort by words or by actions.
Zuko still has a temper but so does Katara
Even after Zuko's fever dream character change thing, even after The Day of Black Sun, he still has it in him to yell at anyone who commits even the slightest transgressions against him:
Aang: That one felt kinda hot. Zuko: Don't patronize me. You know what it's supposed to look like. Aang: Sorry, sifu hotman. Zuko: And stop calling me that!
Sokka: So all we have to do is make Zuko angry. Easy enough. *pokes him with his sword* *annoying laugh* Zuko: All right! Cut it out!
Maybe it's the firebender in him or maybe he really is just like that. Basically if you annoy him, he'll let you know. What people sometimes overlook is that while it takes Katara a bit longer, she also gets worked up when people upset her.
Toph: What's the matter? Can't handle some dirt, Madame Fussy Britches? Katara: Oh, sorry, did I splash you, mud slug?
And remember, it was Katara getting angry at Sokka that even broke the iceberg that revealed Aang.
Katara: Ugh, I'm embarrassed to be related to you! Ever since Mom died I've been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier! Sokka: Uh... Katara? Katara: I even wash all the clothes! Have you ever smelled your dirty socks? Let me tell you, NOT PLEASANT! Sokka: Katara! Settle down! Katara: No, that's it. I'm done helping you. From now on, you're on your own!
The point is that it is both Zuko and Katara that are very passionate and emotional people. One of them isn't emotionally dominating the other because they both wear their emotions on their sleeves.
This also comes in to play when they set goals for themselves. When Zuko sets a goal, he puts everything into it. Katara is the same way. The difference is that Zuko's drive sometimes gives him a one-track mind while Katara is more flexible. Like for example Zuko being so focused on finding Aang before Sozin's Comet that he ignores Toph's story about her childhood versus Katara wanting to go to the North Pole but taking time to stop and help whoever they come across.
This passion also fuels their values and how strongly they stand by their beliefs. I already put The Painted Lady quote up above but Zuko's morality is what is making him so angry at himself during The Beach. He knows what he did was wrong, but he couldn't face it yet.
Sometimes their emotions get the better of them, but it's only because they are passionate about what they're doing.
Their natural teamwork is amazing
I can't provide a lot of clues in this bit because it's more of a visual thing. Just consider how flawlessly their plans worked during their attack on The Southern Raiders. Especially when you consider that it was a stealth mission so they barely even said anything to each other during and it still went incredibly well.
You could see it again during their mock battle with The Melon Lord. Sokka must have noticed because he paired them together to deliver some "liquidy-hot offence." And they pulled it off, again, without having to say anything.
They've only been a team for a few weeks(?), days(?) but they act as if they've been doing it for years.
They trust each other's judgment
Piggybacking of the previous point, Zuko and Katara have only been a team for a while but there seems to be a level of understanding in terms of judgement. They both know that whatever the other chooses is going to be a well-thought out decision. Maybe it's because they see each other as the mature members of the group even though Sokka is the same age as Zuko? I don't know.
Aang disappears right before they embark on their fight against the Fire Lord, and out of nowhere, Katara puts Zuko in charge.
Zuko: Get out of the bison's mouth, Sokka. We have a real problem here. Aang is nowhere to be found and the comet is only two days away. Katara: What should we do Zuko? Zuko: I don't know. Why are you all looking at me? Katara: Well, you are kind of the expert on tracking Aang.
and that wasn't the first time in that episode that she went along with one of Zuko's decisions
Katara: Aang, don't walk away from this. *She begins to walk towards him as a hand touches her shoulder to stop her from doing so.* Zuko: Let him go. He needs time to sort it out by himself.
As a lot of people have pointed out during the entirety of The Southern Raiders, Zuko never gives a suggestion on what he thinks Katara should do. Aside from making it a stealth mission, he follows her lead the entire way.
Katara teases Zuko (and he lets her)
The fun one. This one has two parts: pre and post The Southern Raiders.
Before The Southern Raiders, Katara was tolerating Zuko. She was still angry with him about the betrayal at Ba Sing Se. Getting little jabs at him was the only thing that was really helping her from loosing her cool around him.
Katara: I'm sorry. I'm just laughing at the irony. You know... how it would have been nice for us if you lost your firebending a long time ago? Zuko: Well it's not lost. It's just weaker for some reason. Katara: Maybe you're just not as good as you think you are. Toph: Ouch.
He just finished yelling at Aang and Sokka but all he does is glare at Katara. She does it again, but to be fair, he kind of set himself up for it.
Zuko: It's a sacred form that happens to be thousands of years old! Katara: Oh yeah? What's your little form called? Zuko: ...The Dancing Dragon.
Then comes post The Southern Raiders and...yeah, she's still picking on him and he still lets her. Granted it's a lot more playful this time around.
Zuko: They make me totally stiff and humorless. Katara: Actually, I think that actor's pretty spot on. Zuko: How could you say that? Actor Uncle: Let's forget about the Avatar and get massages. Actor Zuko: How could you say that?! (Cut back to Katara wearing a satisfied grin on her face and she looks to an expressionless Zuko as he slouches in his seat.)
I love pointing it out every time. She teases him and he does nothing about it.
Katara: Er, no. I was looking for cooking pots in the attic and I found this. Look at baby Zuko! Isn't he cute? Oh lighten up, I was just teasing.
And she admits it!
-
So what can we take away from this? From what little time they were given together (thanks, Bryke) it seems that Zuko and Katara really understand each other on an intimate emotional level. They can sense when the other is distressed and offer comfort. They're both passionate in and out of combat, for better or for worse. They're comfortable with each other as if they've known each other for years even though it's such a short time. Katara also likes to add a little bit of playfulness in there with Zuko letting her have her fun, again, showing how comfortable they are with each other.
I do think their relationship could have gone to romantic sooner than later if you would have given it a bit more time. Like first half of a hypothetical Book 4.
To me, at least.

Finding Home- Dabi x Fem! Reader
This is my submission for Day 6 Places of @konoblog-simps server collab
Warning: Angst, Lots of Fluff, Soft Dabi
WC:2k
Leaving everything behind was the best decision he’d ever made. He was finally free, especially after emptying the bank account his father had for him. Nothing was holding him back. The few days after the big fight the anger was still there. It didn’t come to any physical blow but felt as if there had been. There was no looking back now, he will no longer be the unwanted son. He could change his name, his personality, and his whole story. He could be the person he truly wanted to be.
His first destination was the small city of Takayama in the Gifu Prefecture. The city always held a special appeal to him since it was known for the olden style of Japanese Culture. Something he’d always been interested in since a young boy. He stayed at the Hida Takayama Hostel for a few days. On the last night, he decided to stay at the Takayama Ouan with its breathtaking view of the city. It was here where the two of you met. Both of you spent your time talking about your future dreams and plans, and just enjoyed one another’s company.
The next morning he was planning on moving to a small picturesque town in the southern islands of Japan. ‘It was the perfect beginning to his new life.’ he told you. You decided to join him before continuing your next adventure. Here, the two of you spent two days watching the perfect sunsets the beach was named after. Most people didn’t pay any attention to you both assuming you were lovers lost in the moment.
You two exchanged numbers, in case your paths were fated to cross again. He left for Singapore, and you to South Korea. The few days spent with you left a wonderful impression on Dabi. The following days since Japan Dabi couldn’t stop thinking of you. The way your face lit up when talking about something you were passionate about, or the way you giggled when you were excited. It was those honest and earnest emotions from you he truly enjoyed. The memories helped him on the long and tedious train ride from Singapore through Malaysia. He got off a few times to get food or walk around.
Every stop he thought of calling or texting but restrained himself from doing so. He didn’t want to seem needy or clingy. A week later, when he was staying at a little hostel in Kluang in Malaysia, sipping on the most delectable cup of coffee when his phone chimed from you. You had sent greetings and wished him well. You had traveled through Russian and sent pictures of yourself at the Kremlin. How happy you looked in your picture. He wished he would’ve just joined you at that moment. He sent back well wishes and shared that he was currently enjoying a cup of coffee, with the promise to be the first one to text next time.
As the world trek continued for him, he found himself wandering through China trying all the delicacies he had heard about as he traveled. He spent a few days looking at the pandas, walked along the Silk Road, and saw the Terracotta Army before making his way through Mongolia, and taking in the breathtaking scenery of the grasslands. From Mongolia, he headed to Russia.
When he arrived at the Kremlin in Moscow, he stood exactly where you did, and snapped an identical picture to yours. He texted it to you as soon as he took it. He wore a small smile. You had texted him you were enjoying the beautiful colors of the Grecian seas, and how delectable the food was. He promised to visit Greece as soon as he could but had wanted to visit Mumbai, India first. You smiled knowing that you weren’t truly on this trek alone.
A few weeks had passed after the last text. You decided to text him to check on him. You found out he had been to see Mumbai, and sat on the famous Konkan coast. He also went to Jaipur to try Rajasthani cuisine and the street food in New Delhi. From there he went to Greece to learn and see the architecture of Athens, see the beautiful city of Santorini and see the first university in Greece.
He currently was in Lyon, France, while you were staying in Paris. He had plans to come to Paris in a couple of days. You made plans with him to meet in three days in Paris at a little restaurant called La Maison Rose in Montmartre. You were excited to see him, to say the least. You spent that morning going through all of the clothes you packed only to choose basic black slacks and a black shirt.
When you arrived you saw Dabi sitting at a table he definitely stood out against the Pink building. Your breath caught in your throat looking at him. When he looked up he saw you smiling. You knew that most people stared at him most of the time, and he did a good job ignoring them most of the time. However, with you, he seemed to fidget under your gaze. You weren’t sure if it was because you made him uncomfortable or if he was just like that.
“Hello, Y/N.” He greeted you with a kiss on each cheek. You felt electricity run through your body.
“Hello, how have you been? How is your trip going?” You asked with excitement. The two of you shared the highs and lows of your adventures, the pictures, and every ridiculous story you could. When the day got later you and Dabi grabbed dinner and wine. The feel of the city may have gotten to you, or perhaps it was the alcohol. You took Dabi back to your room and participated in evening affairs, as two lovers would do. This continued for another week. Waking up in his arms, enjoying the Parisian life with tourist flair, and getting to know another human through scandalous endeavors, and philosophical discussions post-coitus were the highlight of your time together.
You two had not discussed what would happen afterward, but deciding to part ways was a mutual agreement. You traveled south to Portugal and Spain, and he went north to the UK, Scotland, and Ireland. Another month had passed before you two had contact. For you, it wasn’t the most wonderful of occasions, but the positive pregnancy test you held in your hand deemed the matter important enough. You hoped he would be some sort of knight in shining armor, but you didn’t put a lot of faith in it. When you reached his voicemail all hope deflated, and you abruptly ended your trip and headed home.
Two more weeks had passed, and while you were still debating on the fate of your unborn child, you wondered what Dabi was up to. After his time in Morocco, he had traveled to Johannesburg, Durban, and then Cape Town in South Africa. When he was finally able to charge his phone properly for more than an hour, he heard your voicemail. His first thought was to call back since it had been two weeks since you had left the voicemail. You didn’t leave any clues or hints to the importance of your message, but you knew he’d call when he could.
It was early when you received his phone call you were in the middle of getting ready to work. You picked it up assuming it was your mother asking you to run an errand after work for her, or your boss asking you to work another double shift today. When your eyes looked at the name on the screen, your heart stopped for a brief second. You grew more and more nervous as you brought the phone to your ear. Without thinking, you pressed the green button.
“Hello.” Dabi’s voice said on the other line. “Hello? Y/N? Can you hear me?” His voice melts your insides. You thought back to the week you spent in Paris together tangled up in one another not caring about anything else.
“Hello?” You finally said into the phone.
“Hey, I am sorry about not calling you back sooner. I haven’t been able to charge my phone properly for some time. How are you doing? How’s your trek going?” His voice seemed light and carefree with a hint of exhaustion.
“Yeah. I am good. I have been back home for about 6 weeks.” You told him as nonchalantly as you could.
“Is something wrong? Are you okay? I thought you had another two weeks left?” His voice was gentle and full of surprise.
“Actually, I have something to tell you. The reason I ended my trip so abruptly was that I found out I was pregnant.” You felt nauseated from telling him. On the other line, you heard some shouting.
“Sorry, Y/N. I have got to go, but I will call you again as soon as I can.” Dabi rushed to say before hanging up the phone. The news hit him like a ton of bricks. He couldn’t remember exactly where you said you were from. He hoped he could find you on any social media site and figure it out from there. After an hour of searching, he figured out you lived in a small town in California. He immediately booked a flight to the closest Airport and hoped that would be enough.
Three days later without any phone calls or news from Dabi, you gave up. You figured that if he really cared, he would’ve called, or at least text you. You were in the middle of your day off when you heard the doorbell ring. Your mother was home for the day and you let her answer the door. From your room, you heard a deep voice speaking with your mother, but you couldn’t make out the words.
“I am very sorry ma’am, I was hoping to find Y/N here, but it seems I have the wrong house. Have a pleasant day.” Dabi spoke and turned around to leave. You rushed down the stairs and saw him.
“Dabi!” You cried out. He lifted his head at the sound of your voice. You tore down the stairs and straight into his arms. You hugged him as hard as you possibly could. You were astonished to see him standing before you, you started to cry. He wrapped his arms around you and buried his face in your hair. He stood and let you cry. Your mom walked away to let you two have a moment. After some time, you seemed to have calmed down. Dabi got down on one knee and proposed to you. You happily agreed.
In the months following, Dabi found a full-time job and rented an apartment for the two of you and the baby. You had a small wedding with your family present. A couple of years after the baby was born and you felt more stable, you planned a vacation for the three of you. You wanted to surprise Dabi and try to reconnect him with his family. After many phone calls to his parents when he wasn’t home. The three of you made your trip back to Japan. You thought back to where it all began on that serendipitous meeting. When you arrived at the airport you were met with open arms from Dabi’s family. You learned about his life growing up and his real name, which you promised to call him only when he was in real trouble.
In a quiet moment alone, Dabi took you aside, kissed you passionately, and thanked you for bringing him home to his family. A few days later, his mother and father thanked you as well. They loved seeing him as a loving husband, and doting parent, but most importantly you brought him back to them. Now their family was whole again.

Tangled Salt Marathon - Day of the Animals
While perhaps not my favorite episode this season, Day of the Animals is easily the best written story of season three. Even so, it still has problems due to the third season’s poor approach to characterization.
Summary: Rapunzel, Varian, Angry and Red are returning stolen loot that the two girls had stolen years ago. They are accompanied by Max, Pascal, Ruddiger and Hamuel who all cannot stop quarreling with each other (or in Hamuel's case, just being useless). While messing with a sea shell pendant, it magically transports the humans into it, leaving the animals to fight over it. A minor thug named Dwayne, steals the pendant forcing the animals to work together to retrieve it.
So Why is a Polynesian Inspired Kingdom Within Riding Distance of a Northern European Country?
If you’ll remember my review of Beginnings, Neserdina’s princesses were wearing Polynesian garb and dancing the Hula when prepping for the competition. Now I’ve already went into length as to why that’s not good representation, but in addition to that it’s also just plain dumb. You can’t just transport one ethic group and dump them into another part of the world because it’s convenient for you. You don’t earn any brownie points for doing that. Especially when your fantasy world is still based off of our own historical earth.
To make things even more confusing, we actually saw Neserdina way back in season one in Way of the Willow. It’s where Willow bought the gremlin knock-off.
That is an island. How the heck do you get to a volcanic island riding in a horse and cart? And don't tell me they’re riding to a port, because Corona is a port city already. They could have gotten there by boat. It’s also can’t be too far away from Corona’s borders if Angry and Red were able to get there on foot during their year long travels.
The only explanation is that the entirety of the Tangled crew doesn’t understand geography, and this won’t be the last example in the show to back up that statement.
So Why Is Rapunzel Here?
We get explanations for why everyone is on this road trip, except for the main character herself. Red and Angry are trying to return some stolen loot. Varian is wanting to pick up rare alchemy supplies at the market and was invited along because Raps hopes it’ll be a chance for Ruddiger and Max to get know one another better.
But why on earth does Rapunzel feel the need to come on this trip herself? Doesn’t she have a kingdom to run? While I’m sure Eugene is more than capable of handling things, this doesn’t reflect well upon the writers supposed plan of making Rapunzel appear more responsible.
Literally any other adult could have come along on this trip. This wasn’t something Rapunzel needed to waste time on. Lance especially would have been more appropriate here as he’s the one who’s suppose to eventually adopt Angry and Red. And the sad thing is, all they had to do was give Rapunzel a line about needing to attend some sort of diplomatic business in Neserdina. That’s it.
In a show that’s supposed to be all about Rapunzel; Rapunzel sure doesn’t have a whole lot of reasons to exist in the majority of the episodes.
Lack of Worldbuilding Strikes Again
At this point I’m kind of numb to the whole “magical thing just exists for no adequately explained reason” and so I’m not as upset as some people are about the shell necklace. But it’s still not good writing.
Why does this thing exist? How did come to be cursed? How did it get mixed in with their stuff? What activated the magic and why did it only effect the human’s even though the animals were closer to it?
Just something show. Anything. You bothered to give use rules for how this thing works and even stuck to them this time, but you can’t just make the last leg of the trip and give us some exposition?
Yeah, okay.
So Where Exactly Are We in Relation to Corona?
We can see Pittsford and Ivangarr on the road sign and we have to be in riding distance to Neserdina from Corona, but like are we in Corona still? Are we in Koto, which is Corona’s nearest neighbor to the east according to season three. Are we in some no-man’s-land where none of the kingdoms have control, or are we already in Neserdina itself?
The series gives us no sense of direction nor any firm placement for Corona within it’s world. I only know it is a Northern European country because Corona itself is a peninsula with a north sea, uses French, English, and German fashion/customs, and Rapunzel is a Germanic fairy tale. But like those clues are thrown into a blender and contradicted several times over, on top of never being told where it’s closest kingdoms actually lie.
All of this matters when traveling and exploring the wider world are big themes of your show. You need more solid and consistent world building than this. It also impacts how much authority and control your main character has within the episode itself if she range of political power is limited to one area. So like we need to know where the heroes stand here.
(FYI I personally headcannon Corona as former Prussia which was once part of Germany and it’s alliance of smaller kingdoms. It’s also a peninsula next to the Curonian Spit)
This Is Not Progress
Okay so the idea here, is that the show is implying that Rapunzel is trying to improve Corona’s justice system over Frederic’s previously inhumane crack down on crime. However, this is terribly executed.
For starters the show has never called Frederic nor Rapunzel out for their previous misbehavior. You can not change any system for the better without acknowledging the flaws within said system first. Therefore this comes right out of nowhere and doesn’t stick around long enough to stay within the viewers minds for later.
Secondly, Rapunzel is incredibly fickle about who she does and doesn’t set free. The Saporians were still in the dungeons last time we saw them, Caine was shipped off to the prison island and left to die there as far as we know, and the Stabbingtons are shown shackled together in the wedding short even though they supposedly changed their ways and befriended Eugene again.
Meanwhile Dwayne and Stalyan are free to go their marry way and continue their life of crime, Varian is only released from his overly harsh punishment because he kissed Rapunzel’s ass not because it was wrong to imprison him in the first place, and later Cassandra gets away scot free because she’s Rapunzel’s bestie even though she committed the worst crimes out of everyone in the show and for very little reason.
That’s not justice. That’s not compassion. That’s not progressive reform. It’s just nepotism, and it’s every bit as corrupt as Frederic’s classism and totalitarianism.
Just because Rapunzel is “nice” it doesn’t mean that she is kind. Real reform has to treat everyone with equality and have a set of base standards that are beyond one person’s personal judgment. She is still a dictator and an abuser even if she lets the occasional person go free on a whim.
Finally, Rapunzel’s methods are just downright ineffective. Dwyane may not be a threat to our heroes, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a threat to other people. He’s not actually sorry about trying to rob people at knife point and he fully plans on continuing being a thief after feeding Rapunzel the lines she wants to hear.
Furthermore, we don’t know if this course of action is born out of malice or desperate need. He half heartily comments about finding ‘an honest job” but can he even do that? Is it even a realistic option for him? The series has been weaving this class inequality theme through out it’s past three seasons and directly connecting that to Corona’s crime rate.
Eugene had a hard time finding a job during season one directly due to his past record, remember? A life of crime he was forced to lead in order to survive, and he’s the Prince Consort! What chance does Dwayne have? Did Rapunzel even try to help him find work or did she just wag her finger at him and told him “Now, now, stealing’s not nice.”
The show wants to act like Rapunzel is this progressive reformer but then they turn her into a Republican instead. That’s not me being sarcastic either, this approach to criminal justice is the foundation of conservative belief and has been for centuries. The right are not interested in why people commit crime. They don’t care about addressing the fundamental problems in society that lead people to break the law. Let alone bother to analyze why those laws exist in the first place. Instead they resort to doublethink and survivor bias to either write off those that fall through the cracks or make excuses for why their policies repeatedly fail, often ignoring the fact that things aren’t actually working for whole swathes of people who aren’t themselves.
Tangled the Series is far too simplistic and childish in it’s approach to deeper subjects like this to enforce the messages it supposedly wants to enforce. Rapunzel herself relies on magical thinking, double standards, and personal bias to see her through every and any problem and the show just rewards her for it rather than challenging her to grow and in doing so winds up supporting people like her in their authoritarian ideas, whether that was the writers’ intentions or not.
In short, Rapunzel shows no interest in putting in the real work it would take to implement genuine restorative justice. She doesn't honestly care about Dwyane or his victims. She’s just posturing here for the sake of her self image.
You’re Not In Any Position to Talk Rapunzel
Speaking of Rapunzel being a hypocrite.... The entirety of season three’s main conflict is her having a petty bitch fight with her supposed best friend and needlessly dragging everyone else into it.
In fact that’s the whole show. Rapunzel repeatedly failing to get along with other people because she’s deep down a shitty person despite the veneer of ‘friendliness’ she slaps on to hide it. Having her just say she knows better does nothing to convince me that she’s actually learned anything. You have to show that she’s learned it first, and that requires acknowledging her own wrong doings.
Varian’s face here just tells it all. Rapunzel is full of shit and no one in the show knows it better than him. Why are they even friends again? Why should we trust her with the three kids she neglected more than once? Why should any of these people take what she says seriously?
Well This is Contradictory
Also, since we brought up double standards, here’s Varian undermining that whole “jail is bad” thing Rapunzel is trying to push with Dwayne and later with Cass. Not only is the show under cutting it’s themes for a joke, but it just reinforces the abuse Varian received. He’s now bought into Frederic’s stupid beliefs and winds up reinforcing to the audience that that his ‘reform’ was due to his past imprisonment.
As an adult watching this series, Varian’s supposed redemption continues to increasingly look like a victim complying with their past abuser out of fear of further harm rather than anyone genuinely learning to be better.
Can We Please Stop Infantilizing the 16 Year Old
As if to deflect from Varian’s past mistreatment and continuing parentification, the show then goes on to showcase the opposite extreme whenever possible. I know it’s hard to tell just from these few screen shots alone, but over the course of season three Varian is spoken down too and treated condescendingly by the rest of the cast, and by Rapunzel in particular, even as he enters his later teens/early adulthood.
Some of this is just to due to Rapunzel being her usual holier than thou self, but there’s also times, like here, where Varian is lumped together with the actual children of the show, even though he’s 6 to 8 years their senior.
In fact out of everyone Rapunzel interacts with, Varian’s actually the closest to her in both age and development. Queen for a Day forced the two of them into a power imbalance due to a mixture of classism and society’s ongoing unhealthy (and often artificial) divide between younger and older teens, but as we get further and further away from that point in time and as Varian nears the same age Rapunzel started out as, that imbalance becomes less and less relevant.
Look at how this scene is framed, He’s standing between Angry and Red and is placed lower than them to make it look like he’s one of them. He’s not.
Varian may still look 12 with his big old eyes and short stature, but seeing as how we’re past Hearts Day, he’s actually close to being 17, if he isn’t already. The timeline gets even wonkier after The King and Queen of Hearts, but trust me, we’re close to being two years past Queen for a Day, if not more so.
Varian, for all counts, should be Rapunzel’s equal by now in terms of story. Not only is he closest in age to her, but he’s also the only other person going through a coming of age arc. And of the two, Varian’s the one who has actually learned and grown as a person. He has more real world experience than Rapunzel ever will and knows how to implement that experience. (He’s also the more mature, but that’s more of a failure to write Rapunzel competently than a reflection of his capabilities.)
No matter how you slice it, Varian shouldn’t be taking orders or advice from Rapunzel; no one should be, really; and he most certainly shouldn’t put up with her condescension. Rapunzel is not his nor anybody else’s mother. She’s not even a big sister like figure, and at no point should be treated as the leader of anything or anyone.
Rapunzel is a Poor Man’s Rose Quartz
I typically try not to draw too many comparisons between Tangled and other shows outside of the occasional parallel, as a show should be able to stand on it’s own for good or for bad, but it’s hard not to discuss the series without also discussing Steven Universe in some way.
Steven Universe is this generation’s Batman the Animated Series or Scooby Doo. It’s the game changer that everybody else is trying to copy in some manner. Chris desperately wants Tangled the Series to be the next Steven Universe, right down to how the show is structured, paced, and what themes are presented. But unfortunately Chris has no idea why Steven Universe works the way it does.
For starters SU adjusted it’s pacing as it went along, smoothing out its rougher edges while Tangled doubled down on its filler. SU had a planned arc from the get go and stuck to it, so that by the time the twists came they made sense. SU kept it’s focus on Steven purposefully so that the story unfolded from his view point while making to sure to acknowledge the importance of other characters around him and their conflicts. It didn’t make him infallible nor shove aside everyone else’s arcs.
But most importantly, Steven Universe was written by a bisexual nonbinary person who set out to make a show for people in the queer community like themselves. Meanwhile, as a middle aged white man, Chis hasn’t a damn clue about his primary audience and has shown no interest in connecting with them.
This isn’t to say that Steven Universe is a perfect show. No show is beyond criticism. Nor is this to say that straight white cis men can’t write; many of them do and can portray characters unlike themselves competently enough. But if you’re completely disinterested in other points of view than you can’t be a good writer of fictional stories, that’s just a fact. Because in order to understand proper characterization you need to acknowledge that not every character ever will be like you and that even you’re main heroes will hold beliefs and experiences different from yourself. Otherwise there is no genuine conflict to build off of. Either no one will disagree with each other or the conflict will come across as flat and forced, complete with lopsided bias.
Therefore, in the end, Rapunzel winds up being less of a Steven and more of a Rose Quartz/Pink Dimond. Both are spoiled princesses/co-rulers of a kingdom that mistreats it’s people and anyone outside of it, who rebelled against their guardians, supposedly out of a sense of justice, but really for themselves and their own freedom, only to make things even worse for everyone. On top of that they both accidently harmed their friends, freindzone their best friend while also bossing them around, are condescending to their love interests, is controlling of people who trust them, and throws temper tantrums when they don’t get what they want, oh and neglected someone for an inhumane amount of time.
Even then, Rapunzel winds up being the worst of the two.
The whole point behind Rose was that she is someone whom the main characters place upon a pedestal and as the series went along slowly had the scales fall from their eyes and learned to view her for who she really was flaws and all. By the end, in Future, she is even metaphorically removed from her pedestal when Steven removes her picture from the wall.
Rose also grows as a character, unlike Rapunzel. Her story is deliberately being told to us backwards. The awful person she was in the past was no longer who she was by the time of her death. True she was still flawed, and the consequences of her actions continued on even after her demise, but she actually tried to be a better person. She got called out for her behavior, she wasn’t excused for actions even when the show explained why she did what she did, and she stopped doing harmful actions whenever she realized that they hurt someone.
Greg was allowed to stand up to her and show how she was wrong, and she respected him for it and later fell in love with him because of it. She tried to better control her temper when she wound up hurting her friend. Her failed revolution and her mistreatment of Spinel was actually born from a misguided desire to help, rather than outright selfishness.
Rose Quratz/Pink Dimond is a brilliant fucking character. You may not like her, but you can’t deny that she is one of the most complex figures in children’s media to ever be created. She is real, nuanced, and multifaceted. He role within the story is complicated, messy, and intricate. She is the most well rounded female character I’ve ever seen and she is what I had hoped Rapunzel would be when I first watched season one, only even more so as the actual focus.
I want women in cartoons to be people!
But Rapunzel fails at every turn to follow through with this promise. She is not a deep complex character. She’s not a flawed and complicated heroine. She’s a blank canvas in which the creator can shove his creepy ass views upon. She is never taken off her pedestal, she’s never allowed to be wrong, and she is forced to spout the the creator’s personal bias against other characters.
Rapunzel isn’t a person. She had the chance to be one, but then was reduced to .. to this. As a woman, the treatment of Rapunzel and Cassandra in this show is just flat out insulting.
So What Is the Difference Between Angry and Red Now?
I’m all for character growth, but at this point Angry and Red are just interchangeable. Anything that made them uniquely them has been lost, and they’re now just fulfilling the generic rambunctious little kid trope. Red becoming more assertive shouldn’t mean she stops being an introvert altogether; that’s not how that works. While Angry shouldn’t lose her temper completely just because she’s wiling to open up more.
So Why Dwayne?
I like Dwayne as a character and in truth I don’t mind his existence here, and unlike that werewolf hunter last time he at least was established in a pervious season. But this is still time that could have went to a more important antagonist.
Also notice that Dwyane gets a villain song, but not Lady Caine or Zhan Tiri. Just saying.
Rapunzel Has Not Earned the Role of the Wise Sage and Mentor
Rapunzel has never learned to listen to others. Ever.
On it’s own this might have been a good speech, but when taken in context of the wider story it just makes Rapunzel look like an ass.
A year traveling does not make Rapunzel suddenly all knowing. She is not wiser nor more experienced than anyone else in this scene. She’s also a crappy leader and big fat hypocrite.
Even when she’s technically right, as seen here, she’s still in the wrong because she never follows through and acts upon her own advice; making this whole story pointless in the grand scheme of things.
And that’s the core problem with season three. Rapunzel is shoved into a role she is not designed for and the whole premise of the series runs right off the rails. You’re main heroine in a coming of age story can not inhabit the mentor role. She can not simultaneously learn and grow and be always right while instructing everyone else.
All through out season three Rapunzel is either rendered completely useless in her own damn series, or she utterly fails to fulfill any sort of narrative promise laid out for her while she infuriatingly hijacks the story from more interesting and dynamic characters.
Behold The Only Reason Why Varian was Included in the Episode
Speaking of hijacking things, Rapunzel of course has to get the idea to save everybody, even though what she thinks of isn’t anything special. It’s not derived from her character as an individual nor from all that experience she supposedly has. It’s literally an idea anyone could have come up with and the show just hands it to her in order to justify her exitance.
Meanwhile the character who actually is useful to the plot is sidelined and reduced to just a plot device. And not just here, Varian is rendered practically pointless in all but two episodes in season three, even in episodes that he actually should have more impact in, like the season opener and series finale.
Good writing treats characters as equally contributing to the plot in ways that complements who these characters are.
Ok I’ll Admit That This Line Is Funny
Look, I know this whole review series is about pointing out the negative, and I stand by my opinion that Tangled the Series is one of the worst written shows I’ve ever seen, but I want to make one thing clear.... I do not hate the show. If I hated the show I would not waste my time reviewing it.
Yes the over all writing is shit, but there are a lot of good things to be found in the series beyond just the crap story arc. The humor is usually solid, the animation is gorgeous, the music is a delight, and the majority of the characters are likable even though they don’t develop in the ways that they should. There’s a lot of talent that went into this show and there’s a lot of potential to be had in it’s set up and lore.
Being critical or negative about the aspects of something doesn’t mean you dislike it, or that you’re not a real fan, or that you’re just a ‘hater’, and I actually find TTS to be fascinating because it’s such a mess. I write reviews because they’re fun and because I genuinely think there is something to be learned from Tangled’s mistakes.
So Why Do We Cut Back to Rapunzel Here and Not Varian?
This is such an odd framing choice. Varian is the one who is talking and reacting to what’s happening. It’s his pet that’s in trouble and therefore he carries the emotional weight of the scene, and yet it’s Rapunzel’s shocked face we focus on? Why? What’s the point of that? She has no business being the center focus here. The action does not involve her.
If you wanted to include her for a later set up then why not have both her and Varian present in this shot? Usually I can at least count on the story boarders to frame things better than this, but they really missed the mark here. Unless Chris is just that stupid and petty that he over ruled them and forced Varian out of the scene, but that seems like a pointless fight to pick, even for him.
See This is How you Fulfill a Narrative Promise
The conflict between Ruddiger and Max was set up in season one with What the Hair, then it was reiterated a few episodes ago during The Lost Treasure of Herz Der Sonne, and then it was reintroduced in this episode along with a stated lesson about working together that they needed to learn. By they end of the episode, guess what, they’ve learned to work together. That is how you properly set up and resolve a conflict.
It’s clear from this that the writers of Tangled the Series know the basic tenants of writing and how to fulfill narrative promises. So the fact that they don’t follow through with this in the majority of the show’s episodes and ongoing story arcs just baffles me.
Is it negligence? Is it hubris? Is it incompetent management and editorial mandates? Is it just one asshole ruining everything or is this a failure in the writers room as a whole?
I just don’t understand what the fuck went wrong here. There’s no reason for why the show got as bad as it did. How does the most acclaimed animation company in the world put out such amateurish tripe?
Just... wow.
Now you know why I’m mesmerized by this show. It is a mystery to be solved, like trying to figure out how the crew on the Titanic fucked up so badly or why Hindenburg blew up. You just can’t look away.
Conclusion
Like I said at the start, structurally speaking this is the strongest episode of the season. I personally enjoy Lost Treasure a little more, just because Rapunzel annoys me less in that, but it’s not a bad story. However when you’re best episode in your final season is filler, then you know you’re in trouble.

Be Your Everything
Word Count: 2,178
Warnings: Language, sexual tension?
A/N: Probably the fluffiest fluffs for our Corazon, Angel. Because our sweet man deserves the world. Thank you for reading. Hope you enjoy! ❤️
--------------------
Sitting outside enjoying the cool Texas weather with your parents, you were intently listening to some random story your father was telling you when your mom’s phone began to ring. The smile on her face told you who it was without even asking. “Angel?” you ask her and she nods as she answers the phone, putting it on speaker so you can hear. “Hi, Angel!” you mother says.
You were honestly convinced that your mother loved your boyfriend twice as much as she did you. She was hands down the President of the Angel Reyes Fan Club.
“Hi, Mrs. (L/N).” You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at his flirty voice, and how giddy it made your mom. “Could you please put your daughter on the phone? I need to tell her how much I love her real quick.” Angel says. “Baby. I talked to you an hour ago and you told me every second.” You tell him. “I know, mi dulce. I just miss you! I hate being home alone. It’s scary!” you and your mom giggled. “There is no cucuy, I checked before I left. And besides, now you know how I feel when you are gone on a run.” You can hear him sigh. “When are you coming home?” you rolled your eyes, because you just had this conversation with him. “Two more days, mi Angel. And then I am all yours.” You tell him. “What is wrong with you! Not in front of your parents, cochina!” he teases and you just laugh. “You are insatiable.” You say. “And that is why you love me.” He tells you. “Touche, Reyes.”
“No but I called because I can’t find my favorite hoodie. Have you seen it?” he asks you as you look over at your mom and giggle. “Nope!” you lied. “You’re wearing it aren’t you!?” he knew you had it, he secretly caught you sneaking it into your suitcase while you were packing. “It smells like you so it makes being away from you a little easier.” You confess. “I know mi vida, I’m just teasing. I got to go babe, Bishop is calling a meeting. I love you!” he says. “I love you more!” you say before you both hang up.
----------
You enjoyed the week with your parents, and couldn’t wait to go back for Christmas with Angel, but you wanted nothing more than to be in Angel’s arms, and to celebrate your Birthday with him. Angel had called you early in the morning to wish you a Happy Birthday, and then dropped a bomb that he had to go up North with the Club and won’t be home till really late. Not only was he not going to be able to pick you up at the airport like you had planned, but now you were to spend your Birthday without him. Once you arrived at the airport you got an uber to take you the short ride home.
Walking in the front door, you take off your shoes, leaving your suitcase and purse at the entry way and making your way in. You were honestly surprised at how neat the house looked, expecting it to be a complete and utter mess. You knew Angel and you knew he wasn’t the neatest person around, your typical man. Making your way to the kitchen to pour you a glass of wine, standing at the counter pouring you a glass, from the corner of your eye an envelope propped on the dining room table catches your attention.
Grabbing your glass you make your way to the suspicious envelope. You recognize the handwriting immediately, no doubt Angel’s. Angel was always affectionate with you, but you have noticed that recently it had been amped up a little more than usual; it was borderline suffocating at times. Taking a sip of your wine, you finally decide to open the envelope. Reading it, you realize it was a clue for some scavenger hunt he had come up with, most likely as a Birthday gift to you. Reading your first clue, you realize your first stop was to Felipe’s shop. You quickly change into more comfy clothes, grabbing your purse and keys you head towards Felipe’s.
Walking into the Butcher Shop, you smiled as you watched Felipe lite up at the sight of you. “There’s the Birthday girl! Happy Birthday, mija.”?” Felipe says as he takes you into an embrace, giving you a kiss to the head. “Thank you, Felipe.” You smile. “How are your parents?” he asks. “They are doing really good.” You tell him. “I’m glad to hear.” He says as he pulls away from you, reaching into his apron pocket. “I believe this is for you.” He says smiling. “Do you know what he is up to?” you ask him as you take the envelope from him. “No clue.” He tells you, chuckling. “Yeah, Uh-huh!” you says rolling your eyes as you take the note out of the envelope reading your next clue. “The Diner. Our first date.” You tell Felipe. “You better get going then.” He says as he shoos you away. “Thank you Felipe.” You tell him, giving him a hug before heading out to your car to head to your next spot.
As you walk through the front door of the diner, you look around to see if your favorite waitress was there. You spotted her across the room and she nodded towards yours and Angel’s booth. Making your way to the empty booth, and taking a seat, it wasn’t long till she showed up. Handing you a milkshake, one you and Angel always share when you come to the Diner, and then handing you an envelope. “Thank you, Flo.” You tell her, with a smile. “Happy Birthday, sweetheart.” She tells you, giving you a wink, before leaving to tend to the other tables.
Opening your next clue, reading it you realize your next stop is the overlook - your first kiss. Placing a little cash on the table, you grab your envelope and milkshake and make your way to your next clue.
As you approached the overlook, you spotted an envelope nailed to the tree, right above your initials Angel had carved into it. Ripping the envelope off the nail, you took a second to take in the beautiful sight before reading your next clue. You chuckled at his clue and knew right away were you next place was. The Clubhouse - your first time.
Pulling into the yard you park and make your way into the Clubhouse. As you were walking in, Chucky greeted you. “Hey Chucky.” You greet him with a hug. “Mrs. Angel Reyes.” He greets you back, and you just chuckle. “Believe this is for you from Angel Reyes.” He tells you as he hands you an envelope. “I sure hope it’s from him.” you give him a wink, opening the letter. Reading the clue, your next stop was home – your first place together. “You’re the best Chucky!” you say as you make your way back out to your car. “I-I accept that.” You hear him say as you walk out the door.
Walking into your home, you didn’t understand how your next possible clue could be here. You had literally gone through every room before you left earlier in the day and didn’t see anything. The only explanation you could come up with was Felipe had a hand at helping out while you were running around town. Looking over the kitchen and living room, you didn’t see anything so you made your way down the hall, checking the hall bathroom and spare room, coming up empty. Walking into your bedroom you gasp as you spotted a big box, a pair of heels you had been drooling over for months now, and another one of his wonderful notes, laying on your bed.
Making your way to the bed your fingers ghost over the box and heels, Angel had really outdone himself. Reaching for the note first, you read it. It simply said to be ready at a certain time, a car was to pick you up and take you to a special place. Looking at the clock you had two hours to get ready and make your way there.
You go to open the box to reveal what was in it and were literally brought to tears when you saw the most beautiful red dress. The same dress and shoes you showed Angel not too long ago, while you were aimlessly scrolling your phone late at night. You had showed him and he told you to get them, but you objected saying you never went anywhere fancy enough for something so elegant, but proceeded to drive him crazy with how obsessed you became with the dress and shoes. You couldn’t contain yourself, you had to try on those heels; gasping and squealing at how sexy they looked and made you feel.
----------
As the driver opened the door and helped you out of the car, you thanked him and made your way to the town square. You noticed the Gazebo in the center of the square was lit up with fancy lights, and candles. Looking around you didn’t see Angel, or anyone else for that matter. Making your way into the Gazebo you see all the candles and flowers placed around the floor, you spotted a bouquet of your favorite flowers, and one of Angel’s infamous notes. Making your way towards the bouquet you grab the note, flipping it open. This one was longer, a special love note from your Angel. As you read it you couldn’t help the tears streaming down your cheeks.
Reading the last two words, you furrow your brows and begin looking around. Turning around, your hands immediately cover your mouth as you begin to sob as you find Angel, down on one knee.
“Come here baby.” He says as he reaches for your hand, his eyes beginning to water over. “I want you to know how much I love you. How fucking lucky I am to have you. You make me want to do better. Be better. And you make me so fucking happy all the time. I’m the luckiest person ever to have you. Thank you for choosing me, accepting me, and loving me. Baby you are a dream come true, and I want to spend the rest of my life worshiping you. I love you, y/n and I can’t wait to walk beside you on this new journey of our lives.” He reaches into his pocket, pulling out a black velvet box, revealing the beautiful diamond ring. “Baby, will you marry me?” his voice slightly cracking as he spoke those four magical words.
“Yes! Yes! A million times yes, Angel” you practically scream out. After the first ‘yes’ he had sprung up onto his feet, taking you into his arms, spinning you around. His lips are quick to find yours in a passionate kiss. “I love you!” you say as you wipe away the tears that had slid down his cheeks. “I love you mi dulce.” He says as he puts you down, finally placing the diamond ring in its rightful place on your finger. “It’s beautiful, Angel.” You say grabbing his face and giving him another kiss. “Only the best for you. Happy Birthday, my love.” He says giving you another kiss. “Thank you Baby!”
“Can I say, you looking fucking amazing in this dress.” He says as his hands palm your ass. “Yeah? My Fiancé did pretty good, didn’t he?” you say as you caress the nape of his neck. “He’s one lucky son of bitch because he gets to rip it off you later.” He says as you roll your eyes and slap him on the chest. “Let me get a good look at you, mama.” Angel says as he grabs your hand and twirls you around, whistling. “Damn, baby! I allowed you to leave the house looking this gorgeous? Shame on me!” he says as he mocks offense. “And you! Let me look at you in this goddamn all black suit.” You laugh as he twirls for you, clearly feeling himself. “Who the hell you trying to wife up, huh?” you joke as he chuckles. “Only you baby. Only you!” he says as he pulls you back into his chest. “I love you!” you tell him again, giving him a kiss to his lips. “I love you more.” He tells you.
“What do you say you take me home and you can rip this dress off me.” You whisper into his ear. “Them sexy ass heels stay on.” He says into your hair. “Only if I can use this nice silky tie of yours however I please.” you say, biting your lower lip as you gently pull on his tie, he lets out a low growl. “They can all wait at the Clubhouse for a while! I’m taking your freaky ass home.” He says as he throws you over his shoulder and takes you to the car that was waiting.

the heart i know
Alex misses Michael terribly while he's off on an roadtrip with his siblings.
This idea has been knocking around in my head for a while, and somehow ballooned into 6500 words.
(AO3 Link)
<3
----------
Despite living in a house with three brothers growing up, Alex had always felt alone. His time in the Air Force had never dissuaded him of that feeling, even as he was constantly surrounded by others. Part of him knew it was the secrets he'd kept, the parts he'd been unable to speak freely about, show the world his whole truth. Buying the house in Roswell after his accident, he'd dedicated time to trying to make it into a home.
But even as he filled it with music and books, and decorated the rooms exactly how he wanted for the first time in his life, he couldn't deny that it felt as though something was missing. An emptiness still lingered through the walls, and though Alex loved this place that was all his own, it wasn't quite home yet.
It wasn't until after - after he'd dated Forrest, after he and Michael had spent months carefully navigating a tentative friendship, after they'd slowly and carefully fallen back together, after Michael had begun to spend more nights sleeping next to Alex than not - that Alex started to truly enjoy the space he'd once carved out for himself.
In his study, against the wall opposite his own desk set up for days when he works from home, is a drafting table covered in sketch paper and notebooks filled with calculations. The sight never fails to make Alex smile, to fill him with a sense of pride for the way Michael's mind works, how he is able to conceptualize and design things, and turn them into a reality. The bookshelves in the room now hold more than just Alex's coding textbooks, and the random literary novels he's acquired when he's had free moments to read, but mathematics and physics, books on environmental science and agriculture that Alex would never have dreamed of owning or reading.
There's a black Stetson that regularly hangs from the hook in the hallway near the front door, a pair of well worn cowboy boots are usually nestled on the floor next to his own work boots. And though he'll never admit it out loud, opening the door to the hallway closet basks him in the familiar and comforting smell of rain that accompanies everything Michael owns.
Before, the most he'd ever left sitting out on the kitchen table had been his laptop, now there are notebooks full of Michael's handwriting that regularly disappear and reappear usually occupying the space at the far end.
In the living room, the blanket he'd kept meticulously folded on the back of the couch rarely ends up that way these days, instead thrown haphazardly after an impromptu nap. Though it's usually Michael who dozes on the couch because he'd been watching and listening to Alex play on the keyboard or trying to work out a new chord progression for a song. He wonders if it should bother him, the way Michael drifts off during those times, but it never does.
The kitchen remains immaculate, save for one new notebook shoved in between the cutting boards that sit neatly against the back splash - Michael's recipe book. Each time he finds some new dish to try, he scribbles the ingredients and the instructions down for reference, though Alex has never seen the notebook open while Michael is cooking. As if he's already committed the entire thing to memory.
But one of the best reminders in the entire house that shows Alex how much this isn't just where he lives and rested his head at night, but is a home he shares with the person he loves, is the modifications to the bathroom. When he'd bought the house, Alex had immediately installed a grab bar and purchased a cheap little bench he could sit on - enough to make do in the shower, but never anything more than functional of their intended purpose. It had been the renovations that Michael had undertaken, designing a more comfortable bench, and a much more accessible grab bar system, that allowed Alex to truly begin to enjoy taking showers, no longer feeling like they were just a necessary, but also something to relax him after a long tiring day on base.
He sits at the dining room table now, setting up the new computer he's purchased for Michael. Of course he'd been unable to stick to a budget, too concerned with making sure Michael had the best for the work he was going to be doing on it. Alex had asked, of course, after realizing that Michael was often just using the browser on his cell phone to search for things, and sticking to pen and paper for everything else. Michael had hemmed and hawed, claimed he didn't need one, and Alex had gotten him one morning, after they'd woken each other up with lazy blow jobs, to admit how much easier his own computer could make things.
Alex misses him terribly.
"I feel pathetic," he'd admitted to Maria three days into Michael's trip with Max, Isobel, and Liz.
"You wanna come over?" She'd asked, taking pity on him. "We can just cozy on the sofa and watch cheesy romcoms and gorge on junk food."
He appreciated the offer, and almost took her up on it. The problem was, the trip Michael had taken didn't have a defined timeline. It all hinged on what they found up in following some clues that led North regarding the UFO crash and it's survivors. Alex had tried to go with him, hadn't wanted to be so far away in case something went wrong, but when his PTO request was denied due to insufficient notice, he'd relented after Michael had convinced him he'd check in every day.
But now it’s been three days since the time they’d spoken, and Alex is starting to worry. He’d resisted during the first twelve hours, convincing himself Michael just hadn’t found a moment alone. The remaining twenty four had been agony, especially when there’s been no answer on anyone’s cell phone - Michael, Isobel, Liz, and Max’s all had gone to voicemail in the end.
"He'll call," Maria had said when he'd told her. "Perhaps there's no signal where they are."
He'd been surprised, given her own ancestral ties to the crash, that she'd elected to stay in Roswell. But Maria had gently reminded him that she was more concerned about Mimi than road trips with no definitive answers, and she had a business to run - sometimes personal trips just had to be sacrificed.
So he occupies himself with setting up the new programs on Michael's computer, making sure it all runs smoothly for when he returns, and buries himself in work projects to pass the time, and tries to not think something went wrong and that's why Michael hasn't gotten in touch.
"We're on our way back," Michael greets him in the first conversation they've had in thirty six hours. "We ran into some problems, so I can't talk long, but we're maybe four-"
"Six!" Alex hears Liz shout in the background.
"-hours away, and there's nothing stopping me from coming right to you."
Alex looks at the clock, and how it's after midnight now, which means it'll be well into the morning hours before Michael is walking through the front door.
"I know you'll probably be tired-"
Michael scoffs, laughing and it's the most wonderful sound Alex has heard in days.
"Tell those bastards you're going to be late."
Alex smiles. "I might not leave at all then."
It's tempting to think about, calling out to spend the entire day with Michael instead. But he has three meetings scheduled, none of which he can get out of short of being on a ventilator. But it will mean that when he gets home in the afternoon, Michael will be there.
He reluctantly falls asleep after that, curled up on Michael's side of the bed, face buried in the pillow that no matter how many times it gets washed, always smells exactly like Michael. It doesn't make Alex miss him any less, but it's been his only comfort these last couple days.
When his alarm goes off several hours later, Alex stubbornly doesn't think about how he woke up alone again. He takes his morning shower on autopilot, wanting to go through the motions enough so that he can just come home to Michael. Breakfast is coffee and cereal, same as it's been every day Michael has been gone, because while Alex is able to cook for himself when he has to - recipes are not that hard to follow - he prefers Michael's cooking. A voice in his head tells him it's just because it means he doesn't have to, but that's not it. He loves watching Michael experiment with things, adding spices or flavors that he never would have dreamed of, and everything still tasting delicious. He'd tried not to be too surprised the first time he’d watched Michael cook for him, curiosity getting the better of him.
"Did you learn from one of the people you lived with?*
Michael had shaken his head, concentrating on the vegetables he'd been chopping up.
"Sanders was the first one who took an interest. After I started working for him, sometimes I'd crash on his couch, and he'd cook me breakfast in the morning. First time someone didn't make me feel like I was an imposition."
Alex's heart always broke hearing about what it had been like for Michael growing up. To not have any memories of happier times, but believing they existed and surviving on that hope. He's often wondered since if there was a way to retrieve the memories that Max, Isobel, and Michael couldn't remember. Particularly after learning about Nora and Louise, and how hard they'd tried to protect their children. His own childhood hadn't always been bad, there had been some good moments, memories from before his mom left when it had felt like they had been something akin to a happy family. It was only after she left when things had changed.
It’s that fear now, of possibly turning into a monster like his father, that keeps Alex from entertaining the possibility of a family. Neither he or Michael have brought it up, and Alex wonders if it’s because they’re both too scared of repeating the unpleasantness of their childhoods. Part of him knows, believes, that he would never turn into the monster that his father was, but fear isn’t always rational, and it doesn’t always make sense, Alex knows that. Maybe one day he’ll believe it too.
Because deep down, he wants it. He wants to marry Michael some day. He's had part of a proposal written since he was seventeen, when he was younger and more naive. There's never been anyone else who made him fell so fast and hard, but Alex doesn't care.
He continues on autopilot as he goes about his day, making the commute to the base, attending his meetings, going over a project that's currently in development for the land the Air Force had purchased from the Foster's several years prior - delayed because of funding and approval issues. He skips lunch, trying to make it through the day faster, and spends most of his last meeting staring at the clock in the corner of his laptop screen.
The drive home is excruciating - it feels longer than it ever has before. There's no new text messages, no missed calls, no voicemails, and Alex tries not to think about how it's probably only because Michael was exhausted. Hopefully he fell asleep the moment he hit the bed, and that's where he's going to find Michael when he gets home.
It's just been two extremely long weeks.
He toes his boots off inside the front door, and drapes his jacket on the hook. There's a black duffel laying near one of the chairs at the dining table, and Alex lets out a sigh of relief. He wastes no time pushing open the bedroom door, greeted by darkness because Michael has all the curtains pulled tight to keep out the sun. He closes the door behind him and pulls his shirt over his head, dropping it in the middle of the floor as he makes his way to the bathroom, flipping on a light. Inside, he partially closes the door and removes his pants, sitting down on the window seat to remove his prosthetic. There's a crutch leaning against the wall, one of the places Michael is always diligent in making sure to place one of his spares. The stress of the past several days has traveled all through his body, and Alex feels it acutely in his hip, and around his stump, which feels extra sensitive to pressure as he removes the liner. He debates the merits of drawing a bath, letting himself relax and let the tension melt away - but it would mean delaying being near, and getting to touch, Michael again for the first time in two weeks, and he decides against it.
Crutch nestled under his elbow, Alex makes his way back into the bedroom, naked except for his boxers, and crawls into bed, letting his crutch fall to the floor. He lets his hands sweep up Michael's legs, past his hips and stomach - a thrill traveling through his body that Michael had fallen asleep naked and ready for him - body following as Alex leans down to place feather light kisses to Michael's skin. He continues upward, pressing his face into Michael's neck, breathing in that familiar and comforting rain smell, his whole body relaxing in response. Alex presses a kiss to somewhere along Michael's jawline, before feeling Michael's arms move, wrapping around him, and pulling their bodies tightly together, indicating he’s awake too.
Without a word, just Michael pushing up to try and find his lips, kisses landing on his cheek, and neck, before finding his lips, Alex feels as he lets go of his hold, and Michael's hand brushes against him. He shifts a bit, so Michael doesn't have to try and squeeze his hand between their bodies, and reaches down, taking Michael in his hand. It's rough, just skin on skin, and Alex knows that friction can't feel good. He pauses, leaning back, and retrieving the bottle of lube from the nightstand where he'd left it during Michael's absence. Carefully he coats his hand, recapping the lid, and reaching back down, fingers wrapped around Michael again as he runs his thumb over the head, which makes Michael moan so so beautifully, and Alex wonders if he'd even touched himself at all during the trip, if he'd been alone long enough to. He jerks Michael off, keeping his face pressed against the side of Michael's neck until Michael is shifting, turning his head and pressing his open mouth against Alex's. He quickens the pace, sensing Michael is close, and pushes his other hand into Michael's curls, pulling at them slightly, but causing the desired effect as Michael thrusts up to meet his hand, and Alex slows his pace, letting him ride it out, pressing kisses to Michael's cheek as he settles back against the pillows.
"Welcome home," Alex whispers, nuzzling against Michael’s cheek, reveling in the contact.
“I told you I’d make it back.”
Alex lets Michael press their lips together, before watching as he slides out from underneath him, pushing up off the bed and heading into the bathroom. Alex only moves as far enough to sit up, his eyes never leaving Michael, watching as he moves around, grabbing a washcloth from the closet, and running it under the hot water.
Finally, thanks to the light of the bathroom, Alex gets a good look at Michael, and immediately sits up in bed, blinking hard at the sight. Michael’s body is covered in bruises -most of them are on his abdomen and back, and Alex is pretty sure there’s a cut on his cheek below his left eye.
“What the fuck happened to you?” Alex yells out, suddenly pissed off that Michael hadn’t said anything, Alex had put his hands on those bruises, they had to have hurt.
Michael pauses, looking down at himself like just realizing the bruises are there, before glancing back at Alex, shrugging his shoulders, and Alex tries to maintain his composure. It’s not going to do him any good to get angry at Michael.
“Turns out the people we were looking for were actually looking for Jones. They saw Max, and wouldn’t believe that he was someone else.”
“And Liz and Isobel-”
“They’re fine - it’s only me and Max who get to look like this. The girls had stayed at the hotel the night this happened - or well, the two days we were missing afterward.”
“Missing?” Alex is seething now, understanding the reasoning behind the fact that he hadn’t been able to get in touch with Michael or anyone else for several days. “Did you forget you have telekinetic powers?”
Michael smiles at him, making his way back into the bedroom, and leaning over to press a kiss to his forehead. It doesn’t do anything to calm Alex down, but he appreciates that Michael knows he needs the physical contact of some kind in this moment.
“They had some sort of serum, something similar I’m guessing to what Helena Ortecho dosed me with when she wanted me to build the atomizer. Rendered me powerless for almost two days. Max too.” Michael slides back onto the bed, and Alex immediately leans forward, hands carefully running across the skin, careful to avoid all the places where Michael has bruises and cuts.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
Michael doesn’t reply, and turns away from him, running a hand through his curls, and Alex watches as they slowly fall back into place.
“I don’t want to hurt you-”
“You didn’t-”
Alex glares at him, and thankfully Michael doesn’t finish his sentence.
“Because you would have stopped touching me, and I didn’t-” Michael sighs, reaching out and taking Alex’s hand. He lets him, adjusting so their fingers are intertwined, and watches as Michael presses a kiss to the back of his hand. “Because it’s been two weeks, and nothing these past two weeks has felt as good as your hands on me.”
“Michael.”
Alex takes a deep breath, and barely lets the idea form in his mind, knowing that he’ll overthink it and talk himself out of it if he does. He pushes himself up, maneuvering on the bed, until he’s straddling Michael’s lap, legs wrapped around his hips. Alex digs his hands into Michael’s hair, and pulls their lips together, foreheads gently knocking against one another. The feeling of them pressing together, only the thin layer of his own boxers in the way makes Alex grind down harder, needing the touch.
Michael flips them, so Alex is underneath him, but his legs still wrapped around Michael’s hips, pulling them close together, and Alex laughs into Michael’s chest as he leans over him and retrieves the bottle of lube from earlier. Alex watches, as patiently as he can, as Michael stands up, pulling his boxers down and squirting some onto his hand, coating his fingers, before reaching down and with one finger pressing into Alex.
It has been too long as he pushes down into the contact, hands gripping into the sheets of the bed as Michael adds another finger, using just the tiniest bit of force to open him up. And Alex can’t look away, can’t stare at anything except Michael’s face, and the focus in his eyes in how he’s touching Alex. He feels Michael press in one more finger, and while he appreciates the care Michael is putting into making sure he’s ready, Alex finds that he doesn’t care, he just needs, needs-
Michael’s fingers slide out, and Alex groans at the loss, before Michael is lining himself up and pushing forward, and Alex wraps his legs around Michael’s hips again, urging him forward, filling him up. For a moment, they stay like that, Michael buried inside him, and Alex reaches up, grabbing hold of Michael’s shoulders, his neck, and finally his face, and pulling him down into a desperate crush of their lips before he feels Michael pull out, almost all the way but still inside him and holding him open, before thrusting back in. When Michael hits that spot inside him that sends him wild, Alex can’t do anything except bury his teeth into the junction where Michael’s neck meets his shoulder, the rain smell that is so very Michael all he can focus on, before he reaches down and takes himself in hand, leaning into the tightness he can feel forming, his orgasm inching closer now.
Michael’s orgasm hits first as he continues to thrust forward, dropping his head to Alex’s chest with a muffled groan, as Alex continues to jerk himself off, feeling his own orgasm grow, but the friction is too much, and it’s wrong, and as he slows down his movements, he feels Michael’s hand cover his own, and Alex pulls back, watching as Michael takes over. It doesn’t take long, Alex has spent too many nights dreaming about Michael’s hands on him, and it’s as Michael thumb brushes across the tip that Alex lets go, moaning out his own climax into the curls on top of Michael’s head, fingertips pressed into the skin of Michael’s back.
He pulls Michael down into him, their bodies pressed tight, and Alex keeps his legs wrapped tight around him, one hand digging into his curls as they both breath deep and heavy, coming down from their highs.
It takes another couple minutes before Michael is pushing himself up, and pulling Alex with him, and Alex realizes too late, Michael is carrying him into the bathroom. He doesn’t protest as Michael carefully sets him down next to the shower, and Alex gracefully falls onto the bench, leaning forward and turning the water on, watching as Michael disappears back into the bedroom, returning moments later with his crutch. Alex uses this opportunity to clean himself up, removing the remaining evidence from his skin, letting his fingers dance across Michael’s skin as he watches him do the same.
They dry off, Michael double checking his crutch is within reach, before pressing their lips together one more time, and disappearing back out into the bedroom. He returns a moment later with boxers, and a t-shirt, leaving them on the sink for Alex to get to, and disappears again back into the bedroom again.
By the time Alex has put on the boxers, and pulled the t-shirt over his head, Michael is standing in the doorway, wearing a pair of black boxers, and his hair is towel dried enough that it’s wet, but not dripping onto the floor.
“Dinner?” Michael asks, and all Alex can focus on is the cut next to Michael’s left eye. It’s already in the healing stages, clearly having been received several days earlier, but it’s entire presence makes Alex angry. “I wasn’t thinking anything too complicated, maybe fajitas? If we have the ingredients, since I’m sure you haven’t cooked anything while I’ve been gone.”
Alex scoffs at him. “I went shopping yesterday.”
He takes his time getting dressed, and fishing out one of Michael’s clean work shirts from the dresser, pushing him arms into the sleeves, pressing his nose into the fabric. He’s always amazed at how well the rain smell persists, but it’s comforting, and it makes him feel like he’s surrounded by Michael even in those moments he’s not. He stands in the middle of the bedroom, debating whether or not to put his prosthetic back on, eventually deciding against it - they’re not going anywhere else tonight, and the idea of wrangling with it when they’re just going to end up going back to bed in a few hours isn’t appealing to him at all.
By the time he makes it out into the main room, standing at the foot of the dining room table, Michael, who has slipped into Alex’s Air Force hoodie so he’s not walking around shirtless, has already spread out the necessary ingredients on the counter in the kitchen. There’s a pan on the stove, and Michael is concentrating on slicing the steak into strips, the vegetables from the crisper waiting to be cut up next. Alex doesn’t pay too much attention to the specifics of the cooking, and glances down at the table, only to notice Michael’s regular notebooks are missing, though the laptop that is his gift is exactly where he left it.
Alex watches, transfixed, as Michael scribbles something into one of those notebooks, and then retrieves his cooking notebook from it’s spot against the wall, writing something down in that as well. The way Michael moves, Alex can’t even begin to imagine what his thought process is like to be able to shift around constantly like he does, one idea after another flowing through his mind, needing to be captured and saved.
As far as he can tell, Michael hasn’t seen him yet. Which is fine, because Alex is more than happy in this moment to enjoy watching him, reveling in how comfortable Michael looks. He thinks of the drafting table in the study, and two vehicles parked in the garage, and Michael’s clothes with their own space in the dressers, and in the closet, and can’t look away from Michael in the kitchen, cooking and looking very much like this is his home. And Alex thinks of every time Michael has told him about not belonging, about not feeling wanted, and about how often he’d been shuffled around the system, and something tightens in Alex’s chest.
Years ago, he’d seen this beautiful, handsome boy who made his heart beat just a little bit faster, and offered him a warm place to sleep at night. A boy who had stood up for him when no one else would, who had without hesitation put himself between Alex and danger time and time again. Who looked at Alex like he was the only person in the world that mattered, and Alex has always wondered if he’s worthy of that love, of that devotion. But Michael has never looked at him any other way, even in their worst moments, during the arguments and the fighting - Alex has never doubted that Michael loved him. Because while Alex knows he’s always had trouble verbalizing his feelings, Michael has always been one to stand tall and declare them in the most beautiful ways.
And Alex knows that, without a doubt, there is nowhere else he would rather be in this moment.
“Michael,” he chokes out, because the words are clawing up his throat, and usually Alex is careful about what he says, and how he says it, and he’s never - at least he doesn’t think he has - truly told Michael how he feels. And standing here now, after being apart for two weeks, and the issues with keeping in touch during that time, and the fucking bruises, and it’s all too much for him to keep in now.
“I was thinking about my workshop, and how we can modify some space in the basement here if that’s-”
Alex doesn’t let him finish, can’t even process what Michael is talking about past agreeing with it because he's talking like he knows this is his space, and Alex can't help but feel happy and so fucking proud to see that Michael knows this is his home too.
“Michael,” he starts again, waiting until Michael is looking back at him. “I am so fucking in love with you.”
He was expecting a reaction of some kind, probably something akin to Michael just crossing the room and kissing him. What he certainly doesn’t expect is to hear the knife clatter to the floor, and Michael swear under his breath, and for him to turn the water in the sink on, shoving his hand underneath it.
It takes Alex’s brain a moment to come back online, wondering what just happened, before he realizes that Michael has sliced his hand open. But before he can move, Michael has grabbed a dishtowel, and wrapped it around his hand, as he rushes toward Alex, good hand reaching out and pulling their bodies together, kissing Alex. And Alex is helpless, he melts into Michael’s touch, his arms wrapping around Michael’s waist and pulling himself closer, and Alex faintly realizes his crutch has fallen to the floor.
“You’re such an idiot,” Alex says against Michael’s lips, but Michael just shakes his head, diving back in and kissing him again.
“I don’t care,” Michael replies against his lips, and Alex feels helpless to stop him. "I'm happy to be your idiot."
“We’re going to have to call Kyle now, and have him look at your hand-”
“It’s really not that bad-”
Alex grabs Michael’s wrist, pulling back far enough to get a better look at it, the towel wrapped tightly enough for now, and Alex knows the only reason he hasn’t immediately settled into worrying about an infection is because of Michael’s alien DNA and it’s resistance to human diseases and ailments.
“What if you need stitches?”
Michael smiles, leaning in again, and Alex doesn’t stop him.
"I'm gonna go put my prosthetic on, and then call Kyle, so please, no more accidents." Alex tugs at the dish towel, and Michael yanks his hand back.
In the bathroom, Alex collapses back on the window seat, and takes a deep breath, cursing the events of tonight. Well, not all of them because he'd never regret Michael - even through the good and bad between them, Alex has learned to take it all in stride. He just can't believe Michael's reaction to what he'd said had been to slice his hand open.
He calls Kyle first, leaning against the wall, and wondering if he should never had said anything at all. They're lucky - Kyle isn't working, and agrees to come over, but Alex can hear the apprehension in his voice and knows he's going to have to figure out a way to repay the favor.
By the time Alex has put his prosthetic back on, Kyle is letting himself in through the front door, backpack slung over his shoulder, looking as though he'd rather be anywhere but here - and Alex can't blame him for that. His status as Alien Doctor means he's the only one who can treat the aliens without fear of discovery.
“Do I even want to know?” Kyle asks, carefully pulling back the dishtowel, and inspecting the wound. Alex watches as Michael ignores the question, his good hand reaching toward the new laptop that's still sitting on the table.
“Guerin’s an idiot,” Alex supplies from where he’s standing in the kitchen heating up leftover pizza, since dinner was ruined, and Alex was done letting Michael near sharp objects for the evening. As Kyle sets about cleaning and bandaging Michael’s cut, including dropping a full bottle of nail polish remover on the table for Michael to drink, Alex moves around the kitchen, cleaning up the ruined dinner that Michael had planned for them, shaking his head at the half cut up meat and vegetables, and putting anything that can be saved back in the fridge.
“Yeah,” Michael adds, not paying attention to Kyle, his gaze firmly settled on watching Alex in between sips of acetone. “But you love me.”
Alex watches Kyle stop what he’s doing, eyes moving up first to Michael’s, and then over to his own, as if asking if he needs to tell Michael to shut up before he starts telling Kyle things he definitely doesn’t need to, or want to, know.
“Did you just figure that out, Guerin?” Kyle replies instead, and Alex wonders if he thought that the safest option. “Cuz the rest of us had bets on how long it would take you two to figure your shit out.”
Alex glares at Kyle, remembering several conversations years ago, where Kyle had tried to nudge him into talking to Michael, insisting that it was the key to everything between them. It hadn’t been bad advice, it had been exactly what Alex had needed to hear. The problem was, like it had always been with them, timing.
Timing had always been their enemy, even from the very beginning. Alex had thought they’d beaten it, after everything they’d been through where they’d all but given up on ever being together. He doesn’t like to dwell on it too much, on their crashing back together in the weeks following the reunion, or how fast he’d pulled away due to the threat of his father still lingering over them, choosing to protect Michael over being with him.
“Who won?” Michael asks, and Alex glances over to see Kyle bent over Michael’s hand, gauze pressed against the wound. He doesn’t want to know how far off their friends were, if he and Michael had spent too much time letting everything else get in the way instead of trying to work things out between them. But he’s already cleaned up the kitchen, and after all of this, Alex really just wants to eat dinner and take Michael to bed, and not wake up until the morning.
“Max.” That’s a surprising answer, Alex thinks. He’d expected it to be Maria or Isobel. Or even Kyle himself, who seemed to have picked up on what Guerin meant to him long before Alex was even willing to admit to himself that it could be obvious to anyone. “And even he was off by about four months. You two really did take forever.”
“I’m surprised Maria didn’t win.”
“She took herself out of the running, said it’d be cheating.”
Alex is thankful when the oven beeps, indicating the pizza is ready, and ignores the remaining conversation between Kyle and Michael. He removes the tray from the oven, and plates two slices each on plates for him and Michael, before wondering if Kyle is hungry. But as he turns around with the intention of asking, Kyle is standing up, backpack in hand, looking ready to leave.
“I don’t want to know what caused that cut, but for my sanity, please don’t do it again.”
And with that, he’s gone, leaving the two of them alone again.
“Alex, what is this?” Michael asks, fingers running across the smooth top of the laptop.
“It’s yours,” he replies, matter of factly. He knows Michael is going to resist, going to insist he doesn’t need or want it.
“I didn’t ask-”
Alex takes a deep breath, because he knew the fight was coming. He knew that Michael would resist it, because that’s how Michael is. He gives and gives and gives, and Alex has watched him reject things people have done for him over and over again, thinking they were debts that needed to be repaid.
“I know you didn’t, but with all your research and your designs - I thought this would make it easier.”
Michael doesn’t say anything to that, and Alex wonders if he’s not going to actually argue against it.Maybe it’s just the events of tonight, maybe Michael is going to save the bickering for another day, another evening.
Instead, Michael shakes his head, eyeing the computer one more time, and pushing up off the chair, and walking into the kitchen. Alex tries to not focus on his injured hand, on the stark white bandage wrapped around reminding him of a different time in their lives, causing him to flinch away, picking up a plate and taking a bite of pizza.
He watches Michael lean against the counter across from him, picking up a slice of pizza and testing if it’s cool enough to eat. It’s shit timing, but Alex needs to know something, needs to ask Michael about tonight.
“Did you not know?”
Michael pauses, pizza poised in front of his mouth, and frowns at him, before dropping the slice back onto the plate, and sliding it back onto the counter.
“Of course I knew.”
“Because I know I’m not good with words, I know that I don’t make those big grand declarations like you do that take my breath away and render me speechless.”
“Alex-”
“I just,” he pauses, leveraging himself across the linoleum until he’s standing in Michael’s space, fingers itching to reach out and make contact. “It felt important to tell you.”
He lets Michael crowd him against the cabinetry, pizza temporarily forgotten. Wraps his arms around Michael's neck, as Michael pulls him on with his hands settled on his hips, and Alex just loves this man. He's infuriating and he's beautiful, and more than anything else, Alex wouldn't trade anything in their past if it meant changing getting here.
"I told you a long time ago, I don't look away from you. I never could." Alex lets Michael lean in, foreheads pressed together, noses bumping, lips pressed together in smiles. "You're my home, Alex. You made me believe, when no one else did, that I didn't have to build a ship and leave. That I could have a family here too."
Alex thinks about home and Michael's plans for moving his workshop into the basement and kisses him again and again and again, feeling like he's that seventeen year old boy again who got nervous around the boy he liked. Except now they're grown up, they're men who have seen more and done more, and changed them. But one thing through it all has remained the same.
"You really want to move your workshop here?" Alex asks, knowing the answer, but needing Michael to understand that he's asking to make sure. He needs to hear it from Michael.
"Do you not-"
"No!" Alex immediately replies, and then catches himself, knowing how this has to sound. "Fuck. No, I want you to. I'm just - I'm making sure it's what you want."
Michael reaches behind him, and Alex twists his head to see it's one of his notebooks, and they pull away from each other just enough so Michael can flip through the pages to find something specific. Be holds it up so Alex can see and-
It's a design for a prosthetic for him.
Alex takes the notebook, staring at the pages, not understanding half the calculations and formulas scribbled in the margins, but not caring because he understands the design schematic.
"I just thought I could try and make you something that was lighter and easier to get on and off-"
Alex lunges forward, cutting Michael off, and wrapping his arms back around him, using Michael and the countertop for balance and leverage to stay upright. He kisses Michael over and over again, and thinks about everything Michael does for him.
"Say it again," Michael says, pulling back so they can look each other in the eye.
Alex buries his face in Michael's shoulder, pressing his lips against the skin of his neck, but he's smiling. He hasn't felt this happy, this excited, this in love since he was seventeen. He knows Michael is waiting for him, the ever patient partner that as a teenager he never dreamed of deserving, much less finding.
"I love you."

Chapter Seven: Way Down To Wonderland
(Image not mine)
Rated: PG
~Hey Alice, is it greener here Or does it seem like dirt? Does it feel the same, can you say that you Are happy to be home?
The rabbit seems to call your name You're late, so it's time to move Oh Alice, you know it's your fate Tick, tock. No time to lose
Hey Alice, time is running short This can't take too long Make a choice now. On which side of the door Do you feel you belong?~
Did I know it was a bad idea?
Yes. Yes, I did.
Did I do it anyway?
Yup.
Was I going to regret it?
Yeah, probably.
Did that thought stop me?
Absolutely not.
I was going with Jack. I was going to leave that freezing nothing-in-nowhere place behind me and I was going to be free. With the Winchesters protecting me, I would never have to be afraid of anything ever again.
At least until they found out the truth. But I could keep them fooled for long enough, right? I mean, Jack seemed to like me. I wasn't sure in what way exactly, but he did seem to like me. That was something wasn't it? It had to be.
Me and Jack just sat and talked while Sam and Dean burned the bones and covered the body back up. The only reason I knew the body was there was because I had found this place three years ago, though as to the corpse's identity I had no clue. I was just making crap up.
When the job was finally done it was around midnight and the hunters wanted to go back to their motel. They also wanted me to come with them.
"But where would you sleep?" I argued.
"Oh, I don't sleep that much." Jack simply shrugged. I chewed on my lip, for every excuse I could come up with, Jack had a solution.
"Look Jack, I've spent a long time here and I've got, like, this 'secret hideout' where I always sleep- er, slept, and I just wanna go back there, collect my stuff and say goodbye, ya’ know? I'll meet you outside your motel bright and early tomorrow morning. Alright?" Maybe the slight truth would work where excuses had failed miserably. Jack sighed.
"You promise you'll come?" He asked.
"Cross my heart," I said, doing the motion.
"Good cause' if you don't show, Cas will know where you went," Sam said, his voice was friendly but it sounded like a threat. I guessed he was suspicious. Sam got in the car.
"That is true," Castiel said, following him. Yeah, they were both suspicious of me.
"Oh. Uh, nice." There went all hopes of running away from this. "Well where are you guys staying? Just so I know where to go," I asked.
"It’s called North Sea Motel, or something like that." Jack paused for a moment. "Uh, I think." I smiled with a shake of my head.
"I think you mean North Port Motel," I corrected him. Jack smiled.
"Yeah, that one!"
"Okay, well, I'll see ya there!" I started to dismount from where I sat, perched in a different tree, but Dean's voice stopped me.
"Say, where is this little ' secret hideout' of yours? We could drive you, just tell us where. Then you could get your stuff and come to the motel with us, you might even get a good night's sleep," Dean offered. I turned him down with a shake of my head.
"Nah, you boys get some sleep. Besides, if I told you where it was, it wouldn't be my 'secret hideout' now would it? Also, it’s not exactly accessible by car anyway, but don't worry, it’s not far." That was a lie. It was all the way across town, but I might need to use it to hide from these guys one day so telling them the location wouldn't be smart.
"Alright well, see ya’ tomorrow, kid." Dean climbed into his car and revved the engine, waiting for Jack before driving off.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow!" Jack smiled at me. His smile was sort of strange as his mouth curved up on one side and down on the other at the same time. I liked it.
"See ya’ tomorrow Jack-Jack." I winked at him from where I sat, perched in a different tree. Then in the blink of an eye, Jack was beside me, pulling me in for a hug. I was surprised but hugged him back. I took a deep, breath through my nose.
'Holy zoodles, you smell amazing!' I thought to myself. For a split second the thought entered my mind. For a split second I considered what it might be like.
But that wasn't going to win out.
I pulled away from the hug and Jack smiled his crooked smile and he disappeared, and I waved as the Black Impala drove off. I sighed.
"Whatever you're gonna say, you can go ahead and say it!" I said to the air.
No reply.
No Isaac.
Nothing.
"Ugh! You're so dramatic! If you wanna talk then talk, ya friggn' weirdo!" I shouted to no one.
Isaac still didn't appear. I hopped off my branch and began to sprint through the snowy woods at top speed. Mocking all the way.
"Oh I'm Isaac and I'm so superior to everyone and I'm a stinkin' drama queen who has to be all cryptic about my USELESS OPINIONS!"
I shouted the last bit before climbing the rope into the tree house. I had made it in under five minutes. When I hauled my sorry butt inside the tree house, Isaac stood there, waiting. He had his arms crossed and his shoulders square and his face was a mask of barely controlled rage. I copied his stance and stared back at him. He remained silent. I could only do it for so long.
"What?" I asked, giving in. Apparently that question was all it took for Isaac to explode.
"DO YOU THINK THIS IS A FRIKIN' GAME?!" He shouted. I couldn't help but stumble back a few paces. Isaac never yelled, not at me. Isaac yelled at everyone else, but never, ever, me. I blinked a few times, trying to discourage the tears.
"N-no! I-I-I just-"
"DO YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH?!"
"NO! But I-"
"REALLY? BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE! BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU'RE ACTING! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!" Isaac took a menacing step, and it took a lot of will to stand my ground.
"I don't know! I wasn't-"
"THAT'S RIGHT! YOU WERN'T!" I looked away, blinking furiously to dispel my tears. Isaac sucked in a breath, trying to calm himself.
"I was just trying to save our butts! I didn't think they would take it like that and try to adopt me on the spot!"
"Why didn't you just say no?!"
"Because that would have looked suspicious!"
"Then just run! They'll move on without you! They'll keep going with their lives! They don't care about you!" Isaac insisted. His words hurt. Why? Why did they hurt?!
"That's not true! They said they'd search for me!" I tried, but it was a weak response, and I knew it. Isaac laughed, it was bitter and without humor.
"What? Is it that Half-Angel freak?" He snorted. I lowered my head.
"He's not a freak," I mumbled.
"Sorry, could you say that a little louder? I couldn't hear you over all your stupidity!" Isaac sneered. My head snapped up and my teeth and fists clenched.
"Jack. Is. Not. A. Freak!" I growled. Isaac's eyebrows shot up.
"Wait, you don't- No. No, you're not really-" I knew what he was asking, and I simply glared at him.
"What?"
"Do you like him?" Isaac asked, disgust prevalent in his tone. I looked at the floor, grinding my teeth.
"No."
"OH COME ON! REALLY MARTY? YOU GOT A CRUSH ON THAT FREAK-A-ZOID!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" Isaac roared, "HE'S A FRIGGIN' TWO-YEAR-OLD FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!" I couldn't take it anymore.
"SHUT UP ISAAC!!!" I screeched, my pitch rising with my anger. I took a deep breath and stared him in his cold, dead eyes. "If Jack is a freak then so am I!"
"No, you are what you are. That kid, if you can even call him that, is trying to be two things at once! He's more powerful then the actual angel! Couldn't you feel it? That thing could probably kill you without even trying!" I rolled my eyes, my fists clenching tighter. I could feel my nails cutting into my hands, but I didn't care.
"Jack wouldn't hurt me. He's not like other hunters, Isaac! He's not doing this out of hate!" I insisted. Isaac's face twisted into a snarl. He walked over and looked down on me.
"And when he finds out that you've been lying? What do you think he'll do then? What do you think they'll all do? Do you think they'll just shower you with hugs?" He questioned, mockingly.
"No."
"They'll never except you. Once they find out the truth, and they will find out, they'll never love you. You know why?"
"Stop." I ground out through clenched teeth.
"Because they are not your family, Marty. They never will be," Isaac hissed.
"I don't need them to be. Besides, I can always talk them into it." Isaac stepped away now and started pacing the floor of our hideout.
"But you won't. You know why? Because it will never be real. That's what you want, isn't it?" He jeered.
"I just want to be safe! I don't wanna run anymore!" I protested, even though he was right. Isaac shook his finger at me.
"No, you want it to be real. You want it so desperately, don't you? That's what this is all about, isn't it? Deep down it's all about Jack, and you know it."
"You don't know what you're talking about, Isaac," I seethed. He turned to me with a quizzical yet mocking expression.
"This little crush you have on the hybrid freak, do you really think you have a chance?" Isaac flicked his finger against my skull. "I know you're all grown up in there, but out here you're still fourteen! And you heard it right out of his mouth, he may be grown up on the outside but he's still only two-years-old! I don't care which side you look at it from, that's pedophilia either way!" I wished I could punch Isaac in the face, much more than I usually did.
"It's not like that! You can't stop me Isaac! This isn't your decision to make!" I shouted at him.
"I'm not letting you go with them. If that means murdering all of them in their beds, then so be it! I'm not going to let them hurt you!" Isaac barked.
"What is wrong with you?! This is my decision! Why do you keep trying to control my life?!" I demanded.
"BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO WATCH MY SISTER DIE!"
I blinked. I couldn't speak. What could I even say? We stood across from each other, the anger draining away into heartbreak.
"I just want a friend, Isaac. Is that really so wrong of me?" I demanded in a whisper. A rain of emotion was beginning to sizzle out the fire of my fury. My spectral companion stopped in his tracks.
"A friend? What am I, chopped-liver?" Isaac asked, sarcastically. Though his tone was mordant, I could sense the hurt that sapped through.
"Isaac, that's not what I meant," I tried to back-track, but it was useless. Isaac's lip curled and his eyes narrowed.
"I've spent five years stuck in the veil, not being able to talk or be seen by anybody but you. All of that just so your sorry ass wouldn't be so friggin' lonely! I put off going to heaven and this is what I get for it?! What? Am I suddenly not good enough for you anymore? Is that it?!" He spat.
"Of course not, Isaac! You're my brother! You're my best friend and you always will be!" My voice came as a stressed whisper as I strived to explain, "It's just that-"
"That what? What makes him better than me? What makes any of them better than me?! What does that Nephilim freak have that I don't, huh?" He challenged, his voice like burning acid. I couldn't take it anymore.
"YOU'RE DEAD, ISAAC!!!" I screamed, tears gushing down my face like salt-water rivers. I couldn't stop them. "YOU'RE DEAD AND IT'S ALL MY FAULT!" Isaac blinked, speechless. "Mom and Dad and Jackie and Bree and Jazz; they're gone! They're all gone and it's all my fault!"
"Marty-"
"No, Isaac! You're gone and I can't have you back, not for real. I can't high-five you when we laugh, I can't punch your shoulder when you're annoying me, and when I'm upset you can't wrap your arm's around me and hold me until the tears run dry! You can't do that, and I don't blame you, but you can't!" I took a deep breath and looked at the rough wooden floorboards as I tried to mop up my tear-stained cheeks, but it didn't work. All the sadness from the last five years was escaping now.
"I don't-" Isaac started but I wasn't finished just yet.
"I need someone who can do that, Isaac. It's been exactly five years, eleven months, and twenty-two days since somebody hugged me! I didn't realize how much I needed it until now, and I don't think I can go on like this any longer! Isaac, I am all alone," I lamented.
"You have me, Marty," He whispered. I hadn't realized that ghosts could get choked up.
"Isaac, you're not really here," I whispered, painfully. "I know you're all I have; but I don't have you, not really. I don't want you to go, but every single day, this figment of you reminds me that you're never coming back," I sniffed, still trying to keep it under control, but the look in Isaac's eyes made that impossible.
"Oh, Marty... I-I'm sorry." I rubbed at my eyes, wishing once again that I could lay my head on his shoulder and just cry like I wanted to, but I couldn't.
"I just want you back!" I sobbed, my ragged breaths scraping at my dry, tender throat. Isaac reached out but his arms passed right through me, just like always. I looked to him in despair before moving to sit on the mattress. "Why did you have to die?" I whispered.
"I don't know."
"Just let me go with them, Isaac. I can't do this anymore."
"If you're going then I'm coming with you. Through thick and thin, remember?"
"Through thick and thin," I agreed. Isaac smiled at me weakly.
"Well, get your stuff together, we're goin' on an adventure," He said. I nodded and strode over to the backpack in the corner. Reaching to the very bottom of the bag, I grabbed hold of the two objects I hated the most.
Two bags filled with a pint each of human blood. The label bore the name: Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. It was the only hospital anywhere near Copper Harbor, though it was more than twenty miles away. It was a long way to go by foot but now I would never need to go again. I just hoped that wherever these hunters lived there was a hospital nearby. I weighed the bags in my hands and considered the possibility of smuggling them past the hunters. The odds were pretty bad.
"Just wondering, how do you plan to keep this a secret while under the watch of four hunters?" Isaac asked from behind me. I inhaled deeply before turning back to him.
"No idea! But as for right now―" I ripped open a small hole in one of the bags and raised it into the air the way you would raise a toast― "Drink up me hearties, yo ho!"
I think you can figure out what I did after that.
-2 hours and 56 minutes later-
I finished packing all of my belongings into my backpack and a few extra things I stuffed in my violin case. Then, I saluted the now abandoned tree house farewell and tromped off through the snow to say goodbye to the one person in this town that I actually considered a friend.
The bell dinged as I pushed open the door to the pharmacy. I smiled at the shapeshifter behind the counter and waved. Dan-the-Dope-Man, regardless of anyone's opinion about his behavior, was the closest thing to a friend as I had made in these past five years. He may not have been the best person, but I owed him a lot and now this was the only way I could repay him.
"Marty! I thought you died! When I watched you go with those hunters, I didn't know what to do! Are you okay?" There was no one else in the store, so the man with the face of a forty-year-old hopped over the counter and rushed over to me, enveloping me in a hug. In this form, he didn't have his Brooklyn accent.
"I'm fine, Danny but, uh, I gotta tell you something." Dan released me and held me at arm’s length.
"What? What's wrong?" He worried.
"Nothing's wrong," I told him, shaking my head, "But I'm leaving."
"What? Why?" Dan exclaimed.
"Those hunters, they asked me to come with them, they said they're gonna protect me." Dan's brows pulled together and he looked at me with concern.
"Marty, they're hunters. Protecting things like us, vampires and shapeshifters, isn't exactly what they do!”
"They don't know what I am, and I plan to keep it that way. But these guys, they're different. They're gonna protect me, and maybe they'll help me find Felix!" I said, gently.
"That's a dangerous game."
"Let's hope I'm good at it."
"You're really gonna do this?"
"Yeah." Dan sighed.
"Well in that case, I'm gonna miss ya, Marty." He wrapped his arms around me, and I hugged him back.
"I'm gonna miss you too, Danny!" Apparently, my eyes hadn't rid themselves of tears completely. A few salty droplets dripped down my cheeks.
"Take care of yourself, sweetie. Remember, if you ever need a place to go, my door is always open." He said, patting my back.
"Thank you, man. For everything. I owe you a lot." I wiped my cheeks and gasped a breath as I pulled away.
"Eh, don't worry about any o' that. Stay alive, Marty. That's all the payment I want," Dan smiled.
"I can do better than that," I promised, smirking.
"Whattdya' mean?"
"If any hunter ever comes to check this place out again, I'm gonna give you a head's up. Sound good?" Dan grinned.
"Sounds great, Marty." He hugged me again and when he pulled away, he had an idea.
"Before you go, here, take these," He said, grabbing several items from different shelves and stuffing them in a bag which he gave to me. I peeked into the bag, inside were several boxes of chocolate truffles, four Hershey's bars, and one of those little solar powered flowers that waves when you place it in the sun. "It's not much, but it’s something to remember me by."
"I'll savor every chocolate, Dan. I'm gonna miss ya, have an awesome life buddy!" I waved as I pushed my way out the door, "I hope you get your daughter back!"
"Thank you, Marty! Take care of yourself! I hope things get better for you!" Dan waved back and I left the pharmacy behind, muttering to myself as I walked down the street to the motel.
"I hope things get better too."
~Hey Alice, do you want to play? The Queen's great (or so it's been said) Hey Alice, can you play croquet? If you're good, you can keep your head

Spirits Collide
- Levi Scribbles
Author’s Note ._.
Okay so I’ve never actually read a fanfic before i’ve just known about them so this is my first attempt at satisfying my need for more Yukka content. So bear with me here as I have no clue what i am doing atm. Also i haven’t seen seasons 2 or 3, just season 1 so I may have elements in the story that don’t completely line up with what happens, but obviously i can’t know that since i haven’t seen it lol. The yukka content doesn’t really show up at the beginning so keep reading every day to see the final product!
Chapter 1: The Chaos of the Night
As the sun sets and the moon rises, Sokka is reminded of the night he last saw her. They had been camping out near the North water tribe after the siege for about a month as Aang taught Katara how to waterbend. Recently, The moon had been full for a few days and Sokka was losing sleep because it reminded him of Yue. A torturing silence was brought upon him as the memories of her flooded his mind. She was once in his arms, fading away into the chaos of the night as the fire nation was besieging the North water tribe. He had known Yue for only days but it didn’t feel like it. But just as things started to look better for them, Yue had to sacrifice her own selfish desires to help Aang and his fellow benders restore peace to the North.
As an infant, Yue was sick and couldn’t wake up. She was revived by the moon spirit and a piece of the spirit rested within her. This tasked her with the burden of knowing what she had to do. She had to sacrifice her life to save the moon spirit, just as it had done for her. She now exists as the moon spirit herself, the physical embodiment, replacing the wounded fish.
It didn’t feel real to Sokka. He had met her only days before it happened but lost her just as quickly. He knew he could just give her up. Not that easily. He must find her, somehow, someway.
“What’s wrong Sokka? You seem down. Well, more down than usual,” Aang said to Sokka.
“Nothing, ok?” Sokka replied harshly. “I just couldn’t get sleep tonight, and I thought I’d keep watch in case anyone tried to attack us during the night.”
“Oh come on, who could possibly come for us?” said Aang to Sokka. “The fire nation hasn’t been up to the North since the last siege.”
“I don’t know, maybe that cabbage man will finally want his revenge! Now go to bed you’re too young to be up this late Aang.” Sokka didn’t want Aang to see his hurt from what happened the previous month.
“Seriously? I’m the Avatar! Why do I still have a bedtime?” Aang shouted. “Clearly something is going on, you never pass up a chance to sleep.”
“Just go already, it’s not like you can do anything about it!” Sokka replied angrily. And that’s when it hit him. Maybe there really was something Aang could do for him.
“Hey, you can like travel through the spirit world thingy, right?” Sokka asked.
“Uhh, yeah? What would you need from there?” Aang asked, confused.
“There’s someone there that I need to see..” Sokka said lightly. That’s when Aang realized why Sokka couldn’t sleep. It should have been obvious from the start!
“Ohh! I know! You wanna see that one guy who steals peoples faces! He’s kinda weird though, but I can see why that would keep you up.” Aang said with confidence.
“No, idiot! Yue turned into a moon spirit, I don’t want to see your stupid face friend!” Sokka replied, annoyed.
“He’s not really my friend..” Aang muttered. “How are we supposed to even get you into the spirit world? I’m the only one who can go in”
“Well Yue went in and she isn’t the Avatar. So then I should also be allowed into the spirit world.” Sokka said indignantly.
“She had a piece of the Moon spirit as a part of her. You don’t, so that’s gonna be kinda tricky” Aang replied.
“Well what about that other fish, ya know, the black one?” Sokka asked.
“The Ocean spirit?” Aang replied. “You still don’t have a piece of the Ocean spirit inside of you so how would that work?”
“We can get the same guy who put the Moon spirit in Yue to put the Ocean spirit in me!” Sokka said with enthusiasm.
“Well I don’t know who that is and since Yue is gone, she can’t tell us either.” Aang replied.
“Maybe Katara knows, we can ask her in the morning,” said Sokka. “We should go to bed anyway it’s getting very late, Aang.”
“Alright...,” Aang said sadly. “Goodnight, Sokka. Hope you can find your dead girlfriend!”
“Oh thanks a lot,” Sokka replied with sarcasm. “Night, Aang.”

Complicated
Jon Snow x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1250 words
Warnings: pregnant reader?
Summary: Getting pregnant by Jon and not knowing how to tell him
——————————————————————————————————
You never thought that you would end up getting pregnant from your night with Jon.
After all, he was more afraid of being a father than anything else in the world. You’d never met a man more terrified of having a child. Most men had no fear about fathering children, with free women or thralls alike...but not Jon.
For whatever reason, he didn’t want to have any kids, which made this whole thing a lot more complicated for you. You had been a friend of the Stark family for longer than you could remember, and if Catelyn found out about this-it would be the end of the world for her.
...but there wasn’t much you could do to change it.
The main problem, more than anything else, was that you had yet to figure out how to tell Jon.
You had no idea how he could react, or what you would actually do about it. All you knew was that you had to tell someone, there had to be someone that would understand.
Unfortunately though, you were an outsider in this place. It didn’t matter how long you’d been here, you simply were not from the north. You were nothing more than a little girl that the Starks had taken in, as far as most of the people knew, or cared.
There wasn’t a single person in all of Winterfell that would help you through this. You didn’t have a single ally and you were truly, completely alone in all this.
Except for Jon, who you knew would always be there for you, even at a time like this.
You two had been isolated in this cold desolate place, but you’d had a friend in Jon, always. You bonded in a way that only two people with no one else could.
...
Perhaps it would have been simpler if you had just gone to him right then in there. When you suspected but you had never been that kind of woman to do things the easy way.
Instead, you just avoided him like you would have a diseased animal, until you couldn’t anymore. Someone was bound to find out about you sooner or later with the way your stomach was expanding. You couldn’t hide it anymore, not from Jon anyway.
After all, this baby was just as much his as it was yours, and you owed it to him. At the very least, you had to talk to him...no matter how much you didn’t want to.
You just had no clue how he would react, which was the scariest part.
“Why have you been avoiding me?” Jon asked, sneaking up on you in your mirror. You had been doing your best to keep him out of the loop but you should have known that it would catch up with you.
You two were close after all, closer than you two people had been since the beginning of time. There was no way that you could hide this forever.
“I’m not avoiding you Jon, why would I do such a thing?” you huffed, pretending you had no idea what he was talking about. Pretending to be dumber than you were was the only way you were going to be able to get through this.
However, you both knew that Jon was smarter than that.
There was no way that he was going to let you get away with something like that. Jon knew that you had been avoiding him because usually, you two were basically inseparable.
There hadn’t been a day that you two weren’t together all day but he hadn’t seen you since you spent the night together-and he was worried.
Perhaps you had changed your mind about him, or you regretted the choice you’d made. Whatever the case, Jon had to know what you were thinking.
It was driving him mad to not have you by his side.
“You have been, I know it,” he sighed, wishing that you would just get to it. He would do anything to fix whatever was wrong, but he couldn’t do anything if you didn’t let him in first.
You had to tell him at some point.
Maybe it would be easier to just come out with it and then deal with the aftermath. You had no idea how he would react, but it was only a matter of time.
“I believe that I’m with child, Jon”
Silence.
You had been expecting it, of course, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with the fact that your friendship with the bastard of the north was likely over.
There was nothing that would make it better.
However, before you could gather yourself enough to leave him there in the snow, Jon stopped you. “I assume that it’s mine, which would make it...” he sighed, doing his best to not even consider it.
You both knew what it would mean. It meant that your baby would be born-
“A bastard” you nodded, reaching down to touch the swell of your stomach. It was a small change, but a change that you could recognize instantly.
After all, it was your body that was doing all the changing.
You caught Jon grimacing at the word but he did his best to cover it up. This was real life, not some fairytale that the midwife would tell as a child. There was no prince and princess rejoicing over their future heir.
This was too friends, doing their best not to acknowledge the feelings between them, while trying to do the best they could for a child.
A child that neither of them had asked for.
In all honesty, you weren’t even looking for any kind of comfort from Jon at this moment. You were just doing your best to just keep from looking at him.
You didn’t need him to help you with this baby, you would do it yourself, but you needed him to know. It wasn’t right for a man to not know about his child, in the same way that it wasn’t right for a child to not know about their father.
That was all this was.
“You mustn’t tell anyone, I am going to figure this out” you assured, pressing your finger to your lips as a way of somehow binding him to your request before leaving him there.
...And just like that, Jon Snow was standing alone, left to contemplate this new news that he hadn’t planned for.
~
Jon didn’t even realize what an ass he’d been until later that night.
He couldn’t possibly think about sleeping as he replayed the entire exchange over in his head, staring at the ceiling. You had told him that he was going to have a child, a joyous event, and he’d only blubbered at you like a fool.
It was ridiculous.
Still, as he thought over the events of the day, Jon wasn’t sure what he would have said. He was caught off guard when you told him today, but now that he’d had time to think about it-it still boggled his mind.
There was only one thing that Jon knew for sure, only one thing that he knew to be true without any question…
He was going to be a father, whether he was ready or not.
And with that in mind, Jon decided that he would be the best father that he could. He was going to be there for that baby, boy or girl, no matter what it took.

TLTNL THE THIRD TASK
Lily sat there, fidgeting in unease before she forced herself to start her chapter, but at least there was the comfort that the last task coming up would be the last of it.
Noticing his wife's hesitation, James gave her the chance to stall for a few moments more as he called to Sirius, "you going to sulk over there all day?" He wanted Sirius in easy smacking distance if he found an excuse to use his name pun again.
Sirius stretched leisurely, eyed his mate for the tone, but then got to his feet and decided it was worth the risk as he flopped back on Harry's side and declared, "Who's sulking? Just because I don't want to sit by your ugly mug all day."
"You've tragically put up with it for years," Remus reminded, "I think you can stand it a little while longer."
Lily actually managed a giggle at the boys picking as she began.
Ron asked if Dumbledore really thought You-Know-Who was getting stronger?
"Why do we keep starting these chapters with Ron recounting stuff?" Lily sighed. "I'd be much happier listening to you all discuss your Charms homework."
"Glad you would," James wrinkled his nose, "I'd rather keep talking about all the ways to get Snape out of that school."
Harry had just finished recounting his Pensieve event to his friends, after first writing it all and sending it to Sirius.
"Finally," Sirius gave a dramatic sniff, "I was beginning to think you'd forgotten about me."
"How could I ever do such a thing?" Harry demanded back in exasperation, "you keep talking in my ear about how important you are."
"He learns fast," Remus snickered.
The three had been sitting around ever since exchanging all the knowledge they'd gained this year, and Harry's head finally understood what Dumbledore meant about wanting to siphon a bit off.
"You're fourteen, you shouldn't have to know what that feels like yet," Lily sighed.
"I don't know, I had the most thoughts in my head when I hit that age," Sirius smirked.
Lily kept reading, loudly, before she had to hear any more about that.
Ron was mostly stuck on the fact that Dumbledore trusted Snape, though he'd been confirmed as a Death Eater.
Hermione hadn't spoken for a time while Harry and Ron spoke, her head bent towards her knees as she looked like she could do with a Pensieve as well. Her first words were Rita Skeeter.
James began laughing raucously at once, bright eyes shining as he said, "I'm just so glad Hermione has her priorities in line."
"You ever worry about Hermione becoming a wee bit obsessed?" Remus snickered.
"What, her? No, never," Sirius' tone was going to bleed him out of sarcasm with that one sentence.
Ron demanded how she could be worrying about her?
"Worry is the wrong word," Lily shook her head.
Hermione corrected she was thinking about what Skeeter, and Winky had said about what they knew about Bagman. That Death Eater trial where he'd been accused must be it.
"You guys put that stuff together so much faster," Harry sighed.
"Helps to have more than one genius in the room," Sirius smirked.
"Hey!" Harry yelped.
Ron asked if Fudge really thought Maxime had been the one to get rid of Crouch, and Harry agreed Fudge had said so, while Ron did acknowledge they'd never considered her before, and she did have giant blood and didn't want to admit it.
"Well yes, but that doesn't actually have anything to do with Crouch," James rolled his eyes at Ron trying to put every mundane thing together.
Hermione said she didn't blame her, look at what happened to Hagrid, but that didn't mean she had motive. Hermione would lie as well.
"I'll give her that," Lily nodded fairly, "it's practically suicide in this day and age just to go around saying you're a Muggleborn, but I still don't think that gives you the right to throw other people under the bus to protect yourself."
"We don't know that's what Maxime did," Harry sighed in defense of her.
"True, but we can't think of any other ways Rita's getting these interviews without a first person account," Sirius' scowl didn't lessen one bit.
Then Hermione checked her watch and began scolding them all at once for not having done any practice tonight, they'd have to work extra hard tomorrow on their curses. Then she ordered Harry off to bed.
Harry'd made the joke before, but it really was something to hear his friend try to mother him while his mother read that.
While Harry crawled into bed, his eyes flickered over to Neville in the adjacent one. True to his promise, he had not mentioned that lone part about his parents.
Lily's voice hitched into unrecognizable as she forced that out, her hands trembling slightly along the pages as she couldn't get the image of Alice screaming in pain out of her head.
Harry had often received sympathy for being an orphan, but Harry thought Neville deserved it more for having parents that were alive and didn't even recognize him.
"I really don't think anyone should be deciding who gets more sympathy for what they go through in life," James sighed. "You just happen to be slightly more public, but I can almost guarantee if Neville didn't have his scary grandmother around him outside of school, he'd be getting the same thing." His mind lingered on how well known and liked the Longbottoms were, and even Dumbledore saying how the public had been whipped into a panic of what happened to them. It was just as likely the people in that day knew Neville's name as well as Harry's, though he could believe not the other kids their age.
As Harry drifted off to sleep, he thought of all the people that continued to be harmed by the Death Eaters; the Longbottoms, Crouch's son. It was all Voldemort's doing, his existence that continued ruining all these lives.
"It can help to look at the big picture," Remus sighed in agreement.
Ron and Hermione were supposed to be studying for their exams,
"Almost forgot you got exempt from those," Remus said in surprise.
"I didn't," Sirius rolled his eyes, "it's so far the only good thing that's come of this mess."
which would finish on the day of the third task, but they were putting most of their efforts into helping Harry prepare.
"I really love your friends," Lily smiled sweetly.
"As do I," James agreed, "but I don't know why you bring this up now. I'd do anything to stop studying for exams, helping out my friend is just a bonus."
When Harry tried to convince them of this, Hermione just brushed him off, saying this was just extra studying for their DADA class.
Sirius mock gasped in outrage, "how dare Hermione equate practicing useful spells to learning in a classroom, I'm shamed for her."
"I'll pass the message along," Harry chuckled.
Ron agreed this was all good training for when they all became Aurors, while managing to Impediment a wasp buzzing around.
They were all genuinely impressed at that skill, not just anyone could hit a moving target small as a bug.
"I'm believing that more and more as this goes on," James chuckled as he looked to Harry. "You really think you go on to do that?" He emphasized the word think so as not to upset Harry.
He mulled it over for a bit, but only gave a small smile for an answer while saying, "I can see it, but I don't know if that's just me at fourteen still seeing it."
"So how many Auror noses have you seen to change your opinion?" Remus smirked.
Harry chuckled lightly at the joke again, though he did somehow wonder if he ever did meet other Aurors besides Mad-Eye?
The mood in the castle couldn't be more excited as everyone was looking forward to the last task a week before school ended.
Despite the nerves coloring her tone, there was also some palpable relief mixed in. Finally the last task, this really should be the end of their big worries the rest of this year. It didn't matter how stupid it was to be afraid of these things looking at her full grown boy, those tasks were a nightmare.
Harry was practicing hexes at every available moment.
"On who exactly?" James asked innocently. "Just so we can keep track is all."
"Harry doesn't go around doing that like some people," Lily snapped at him before Harry could respond.
James rolled his eyes, but Harry blinked at the pair in surprise. It was foolish to think James hadn't cursed Snape at some point with all the animosity they'd been throwing around, and yes they'd admitted several times now to pranks, a few of which had some bad results, but just how often did his dad go around cursing people for the fun of it? It sounded more like something Malfoy would do for kicks? He'd really always put his mother's comments like that down to her exasperation, but the more she said it, the more sure he was she wasn't really exaggerating.
He was walking into this third task more confident than he ever had for the others as he realized Moody was right, he had faced barriers and enchantments like this before, and he'd even had time to prepare for these.
Harry was immediately distracted by wanting to laugh at his younger self for being an idiot. Something about this task was going to go horribly wrong, he'd been thinking that from day one of rehearing about this, and he still had no clue what.
McGonagall had quickly grown tired of walking in on the three practicing in empty classrooms, and so had allowed them to be using hers while she wasn't.
"Sounds like McGonagall," Sirius nodded along. "Tries to hide her act of helpfulness by saying it annoyed her otherwise."
Harry had quickly mastered a plethora of useful Curses, as well as a handy find called the Four-Point spell, which pointed him north and would help him find his way along in the maze. Now all he was struggling with was his Shield Charm.
"That's a common tricky one," Remus agreed, "instead of one burst of energy to blast a spell, you're expected to hold it up and linger on the magic, very hard for people to learn to adapt to."
He was still stumbling around after Hermione's Jelly-Legs Jinx got through his.
"Now see, wouldn't wiggling ears be better than that," James smirked.
Ron was hovering by the window going over some new lists of spells, and called them over to have a look at Malfoy.
"Nothing good," all the boys muttered at once.
They peaked down and saw Malfoy and his usual cronies all huddled under a tree, Crabbe and Goyle apparently keeping watch and smirking.
"Definitely not good," Sirius corrected.
Malfoy was holding his hand up to his mouth and speaking into it.
Harry's eyes narrowed behind his glasses, for some reason he was convinced now more than ever Malfoy was talking to an electronic bug, no matter how impossible Hermione said it could be, but why now though? What could Malfoy be doing down there?
Harry guessed he was using a walkie-talkie from the looks of it.
"What's that?" James asked eagerly.
"You talk into one end, and you can hear someone on the other end," Remus shrugged, "good for long distance type things, but they do have a range shorter than a telephone."
"That sounds brilliant," at once his eyes gleamed, and they could all guess what he was immediately thinking before he said it. "Wish we had those at school, would have come in real handy."
"Sadly, as I'm sure Hermione's fixing to remind, it wouldn't have done us any good," Sirius sighed.
Hermione again repeated how those wouldn't work here, and then told Harry he had to get back to work on that Shield Charm.
"But we were actually having fun spying on Malfoy instead of vice versa for a change," Sirius sighed.
Sirius was sending daily owls now.
"I am biting my tongue not to make a mother hen joke at you right now," Remus snickered.
Sirius sighed and grumbled a bit, but knew he would have taken it in stride if anyone had, he both deserved it, and thought he was in the right to be doing so as well as everyone else. Even Harry couldn't be too annoyed at his paranoid Godfather, the constant mail and worry was the most support and worry he'd ever got in his life.
They were all filled with warnings to concentrate on getting out of this task and leave everything else for afterwards because it wasn't his responsibility or in his power to do anything for now.
"I don't really think that part was necessary though," James had a fixed smile in place as he really wanted to snap at Sirius for overstepping his bounds, and then having to remind himself Sirius was the only one there setting those bounds. "He's not like you, he doesn't think the outside world revolves around him as much as that castle."
Sirius laughed because he knew he was supposed to, but no one could miss the catch of annoyance in James' voice. To be honest it was the first time Harry noticed it though, and he felt like an idiot it had taken him this long to realize his dad might be jealous of Sirius doing all this. He wasn't really sure what to say though, it felt like an empty promise to tell someone they couldn't be replaced when he'd never met him before, while it would also be downplaying how much he really was touched at everything Sirius did for him.
Sirius promised that after this was all over, they could put their attention on other matters.
"What other matters?" Remus couldn't help but ask even if it didn't help the odd lingering silence in the room. "What exactly do you plan to do with him once this task is over, take him Voldemort hunting?"
"Nah," Sirius waved him off, "more like take him into the forest and give him some survival skills, that seems like much more fun."
"The worst part is, I can't decide if either of you are kidding," Lily muttered as she decided to ignore them both.
Harry was starting to grow uneasy the closer the date began, but it wasn't nearly so bad as the previous two. At least this one he'd done everything possible to be prepared for.
"To be fair, I still don't see how you could have been 'prepared' for the first task. You weren't given anything to work with," James pointed out to sketch out his own feelings.
"Least with this one I wasn't having crazy time jump skips," Harry shrugged, "it finally felt, I don't know, final."
There was something about the way he said that that gave them all a deep chill that even Harry didn't seem aware, he had a faraway look in his eyes when he finished.
The best part was, this was the final one. Good or bad, after this it would all be over.
"There's the bright side," Lily said with forced chipper that didn't seem to get through to anyone, not even herself.
Breakfast of the morning gave Harry a special treat, Sirius had sent him an extra good luck note. It was only a muddy paw print on a page, but Harry smiled as he tucked it away.
Sirius covered the happy feeling that gave him with a snort of mirth, telling Harry, "always good to know what you appreciate, just let me nip out into the rain right quick and I'll be back with a whole room full of mud."
"You'll do no such thing," Lily said at once without looking up, "I haven't forgiven you for singing my rug yet."
Sirius blanched and sat very far back in his seat, dang, she had noticed.
An owl arrived with Hermione's Daily Prophet, and while she began unfolding it and taking a sip of her drink, she quickly spat that in surprise.
"That's an encouraging start!" Remus went bug eyed at once, all of them feeling like jumping out of their seat at once in panic.
Both boys tried to ask what was going on even as she tried to tuck it away,
"Exactly how believable does she think that is?" James demanded faintly.
but Ron was quicker and took it away. His first words were to call someone a cow.
Harry at once guessed Skeeter, while Ron tried for a no more effective plan of putting the paper out of Harry's sights.
Sirius actually did laugh, Harry really had the best friends who were far more alike than they ever would have admitted aloud, both thinking that would work.
Harry was in no way surprised as he guessed it was about him, while both answered no in the same unconvincing tone.
"Should we be worried they're compulsive liars?" Remus rolled his eyes, still forcing himself to remain in his seat rather than trying to take a peek over Lily's shoulder already and find out what this was.
Harry hadn't a chance to argue anymore as Malfoy called from the Slytherin table about how Harry was going to go berserk on them any moment.
"Err," Harry muttered in surprise. Malfoy had used a lot of lame insults on him, but that had certainly come out of nowhere.
"Oh just tell your friends to give you the paper already," Lily scowled hatefully, "might as well get it over with."
"It's not like he can avoid it," James regretfully agreed.
Malfoy had his own copy of the paper in his hands, and all along the table Slytherins were laughing and pointing at their heads and casting Harry looks.
"To be fair, the whole hall was actually looking at me that way," Harry grumbled, "Malfoy just somehow has this way of spotlighting his table."
Lily gave him a small smile for that, happy to see he really didn't just single out that house.
Ron finally handed over the paper and Harry read the headline 'Potter Disturbed and Dangerous'
Lily could already tell someone was wanting to interrupt her with a splurge of anger, but though red faced and furious herself at just the start, she forced out.
Rita Skeeter began her report by stating their Boy Who Lived could possibly be unstable.
"Gets right to the bleeding point with this one," Remus said through gritted teeth.
Evidence had begun appearing about Potter's strange behavior, casting doubts on his suitability to compete in the Triwizard Tournament,
"No one was arguing he shouldn't be in the Tournament!" Sirius blasted.
"Though for completely different reasons than this," Harry shook his head in disgust.
or even to attend Hogwarts.
"Oi!" Harry shouted indignantly at once at that one. Taking digs at him was one thing, but to say he shouldn't even be allowed at his favorite place on earth!
There were reports of him regularly collapsing at school and complaints of head pain resonating from his scar, an old relic of You-Know-Who's attempts on Harry's life.
"Someone in your Divination class really went and told about this?" Sirius barked in disgust.
"But, they're all, well I mean, not one of those kids should have a reason to," James's face was coloring with hurt for his son.
"Well someone blabbed," Lily spat.
Monday Potter had even been unable to complete one of his Divination lessons, the reporter had witnessed him storming out.
"Witnessed?" They all parroted.
"She can't mean that one, it must be an exaggerated detail," Remus said at once. "There's no way she's following you around the school, even if she was using an Invisibility Cloak, someone should have caught her, or something."
"Maybe she's just not doing it anywhere near Moody's class," James offered without hope, as Sirius immediately pointed out the very flaw he'd been thinking in that.
"It still doesn't explain some of her earlier times, like Hermione and Krum, where Moody confirmed Skeeter wasn't anywhere around. She must be using the same method to hear all of this, how many tools can she have?"
"I guess, Remus is right," Lily sounded far too regretful to be saying that in Remus' opinion, "she must have made that detail up to give credibility."
"Or hide her source," Sirius scowled, still thinking an eyewitness to this was the most likely.
Harry chose not to confirm, or deny any of this for fear of the pain it would cause, but he couldn't deny even to himself how sure he was they were wrong, Skeeter had been there...
Skeeter had even interviewed some Medics from St. Mungo's, who had offered another suggestion that the original attack may just be causing some delusions of pain.
Lily was spluttering in shock and hatred before she could even get that all out.
"How the bloody hell would anyone know that!" Remus snarled. "Dumbledore doesn't even know what's going on with Harry's scar, who are they to say what could be affecting him?"
"With any luck it's more of Skeeter making everything up to fit her story," Harry sighed to try and curb them all just a bit, he was still far more distracted with the upcoming task to really bring himself to care about whatever Skeeter said about him.
One even agreed he could be pretending all of this for attention.
James snarled in outrage for that one! Harry hadn't had any say in this article being posted, had hardly mentioned to any more than four people of this pain, who was anyone to call his son that!
Harry did feel an echo of that being said to him before though, and wondered just how popular this article became, how many people believed he'd become attention seeking? Why would they!
The Daily Prophet had found even more facts to be released to the public that Albus Dumbledore never had.
"Because it's private information!" Sirius howled in outrage, already more than sick of watching this ruin his friend's life, now his little pup was next. "Where does this woman get off putting anything about Harry's life without his say so?"
"I think the Muggles have some laws against that," Lily seethed, "and I really want to start looking into it. Normally we have spells that detect when lies are being told about someone on print, and then you have to sign something saying it's not being used for educational purposes if that happens to your work. Clearly the Daily Prophet does not endorse that, and new laws need to be put in place so they do."
"Lockhart found a way around those," Remus reminded, "if he can, I'd believe anyone can."
"I will fund that project," James vowed.
Draco Malfoy had confirmed Potter spoke Parseltongue,
"I'm honestly surprised he's waited so long to tell the press," Harry sighed. "As much as he likes to brag of his father's connections."
"Guess it didn't occur to him until this year how much fun it could be," James thought his face was going to get stuck in that scowl and he still couldn't change it.
Remus was frowning in confusion though, thinking there was no way it was a coincidence Malfoy had been spotted doing something certainly not good, and only a few days later this was coming up. What on earth had Malfoy been doing that day that connected to Skeeter now knowing this?
and there had been a lot of attacks in their second year that all seemed to revolve around Potter who was known for easily losing his temper. It was all hushed up, but this had all come from the same guy who was friends with a giant and a werewolf.
Remus felt himself flush as that really registered. It had never occurred to him what his even talking to Harry could do to him publicly. Not that Harry had ever showed he cared about that, but it certainly wasn't comforting when Remus realized he seemed to have done Harry far more harm than good his one year there, his one lone helpful bit was something that any competent teacher could have taught him after all- "ouch! Merlin's shit Sirius, that hurt!"
Sirius said nothing back, his face absolutely clear saying he'd do worse if Remus started a guilt trip for this, he didn't even tuck his wand away as Lily uneasily kept going.
The article briefly explains what Parseltongue is, and how it was known for only being done by those of Dark Arts.
Harry sighed as he remembered back to even how his family had looked at him when they'd first found out about this, and had no delusions there wasn't a person left on earth who now wouldn't consider him some freak.
"I think it's cool," his dad surprised him by saying with a sniffy voice. "No matter how he got it, I'll give him credit for something unique. People are just jealous."
"I'm so sure that's it," Sirius snickered on his other side, "in fact, you'd think Harry would get some thanks for this, he could start his own service. Any time you have a snake problem, just call Harry, he'll come over and talk the snake out of the house."
James was trying to hide his laughter in his hand, while Lily was forcing herself to keep going around these boys' antics.
A member of the Dark Force Defense League had been quoted saying how he found anyone with the ability untrustworthy and needing to be investigated.
"Investigated of what?" Harry asked in surprise.
"No clue," James rolled his eyes, "but I trust it's nothing good."
"I can't wait until the next article now," Sirius deadpanned. "She's gone from putting you in three different lights now, you think she'll switch back around to one, or try another new angle?"
"Here's hoping Hermione catches her before we have to find out," Lily huffed.
The quote continued by saying that anyone who associated with such Dark creatures as giants and werewolves would be more than likely to have a fondness for violence and this shouldn't surprise anyone.
Sirius still had his wand held threateningly in his hand, as he kept his eye on their werewolf, he'd do it again if he caught Moony thinking like that, idiot that he was.
Remus for his part was grumbling in annoyance and still rubbing his knee where the stinging hex had hit, but at least grateful he hadn't gotten a whole mouthful speech accompanied by James, yet.
Dumbledore should be considering whether a boy such as this should be allowed to compete in the Triwizard Tournament.
"If I actually get kicked out of the Tournament because of her, I think I'll thank her," Harry shook his head.
"I think I'd be just a tad annoyed," James said without a trace of meaning it. "You've come so far, may as well get your last kicks in."
"Wasn't it my suggestion Harry should act like a lunatic to get thrown out in the first place," Sirius said with an obvious look at Remus, waiting to be corrected. "Where's my thanks if that happens to be true."
It was not forthcoming as Remus was now glaring at the fire and obviously trying to ignore them, so Harry filled the awkward silence. "I'll send you a letter."
The public should be fearing Potter using his Dark Arts to even win such a prize on this very night.
"She did a really bad job of posting this so late," Lily sniffed, "if her goal was to get you booted out of the Tournament, they couldn't have pulled it off in time anyways."
"Well darn," James snapped his fingers, "next time she writes something about Harry, I'll make sure it gets forwarded."
Harry was at least laughing slightly at them all playing this off.
Harry was not impressed as he folded the paper and handed it back to Hermione.
"What an underwhelming reaction," Sirius shook his head at him. "I'm sure Ron and Hermione were disappointed, did they expect you to go off the rails when you saw that?"
Harry shrugged and laughed at the idea, wondering for a moment why he had a spot of guilt at yelling at his friends about anything?
At the Slytherin table, Malfoy and his friends were still busy making faces at him and wagging their tongues like snakes.
"I'd imagine they look stupider than they're trying to make Harry look," Lily snapped at the idiots.
Ron was scanning through the article more carefully now, asking aloud how she'd known about his Divination moment.
Harry reminded he'd opened the window, maybe she'd heard it from the grounds.
"There's no way she heard you from the top of the North Tower," Remus disagreed, finally stopping his glaring at Sirius, and probably not even going to get him back for it later.
Hermione disagreed that still shouldn't have made it possible, while Harry asked if she had any updates on this magical bugging thing she had to be doing.
Hermione's face went slack in a dreamy expression.
"Err," the boys muttered, partly in concern, and partly in confusion of what had struck Hermione with that line.
The two watched as she first ran her fingers through her hair, and then brought her hand up to her mouth and muttering into her palm.
The only thing they could work out from that was Lily's muttered, "so, did she figure out what's going on?"
"I have no idea how those two things are supposed to be put together," James huffed, wondering when the surprise would wear off Hermione seemed to know a lot more than them.
The boys exchanged a look as Hermione muttered off into space about how this would be perfect, even Moody wouldn't spot it, and she could have been at all of these places.
"How on earth did that fourteen year old tie all this in together," Sirius threw his hands up in frustration.
"Must be magic we haven't seen yet," Remus scowled in frustration, "we've already seen that at least a few times, you know it's always adapting and new spells are invented every few years. That's the only thing I can think of, Skeeter's doing something we've never heard of."
Somewhere deep inside, Harry wanted to laugh at the idea of the Marauders saying this, but aloud he agreed it was just frustrating Hermione never shared what she was thinking.
Hermione yelped about going to the library to confirm something and then darted off.
"What on earth has that library ever done to her, to possess her like this," James groaned.
"She wouldn't be Hermione if she didn't check her work," Harry shrugged.
Ron called to her retreating back they had a History of Magic exam in ten minutes! Then he turned to Harry in shock, saying how much their friend had to hate her to possibly risk missing the start of an exam.
"It's good to see Hermione's finally sorted out her priorities," Sirius smiled for that one.
Then he asked if Harry was going to spend the test reading?
"I think I just felt my heart break," James declared as he eyed his boy. "Reading, during class, what has come over you?"
"I've nothing else to do," he smirked and shrugged at the same time. "Can't even doodle with Ron since he's the one who's busy, and I got caught last time for trying to practice spells. I'd go crazy if I just had to sit there staring at the ceiling."
"Oh yes, fine," James muttered.
Harry had spent all previous exams doing this, looking up more spells to practice for his third task, and Harry agreed he was most likely going to do so this time until McGonagall approached him.
"Has that ever been a good thing?" Lily groaned.
"Not that I can recall," Remus sighed.
She told him the champions were all meeting in the adjacent chamber after breakfast.
"Why!" Harry practically screeched, wondering if he'd somehow gotten the time stamps wrong.
"Relax, I'm sure you'll ask her then," Lily soothed, not denying one bit she was biting at her lip in worry as well as their semi joke still stood.
Harry began panicking at once, saying the task wasn't going to start until tonight!
McGonagall agreed she was aware,
"She gets so crispy about things being pointed out to her," Sirius couldn't help but utter with an old smirk.
this had to do with the champion's families coming to visit, and they'd be staying to watch the final.
"Err no, actually I didn't know," Harry admitted, wondering if anyone had mentioned this before and he hadn't been paying attention.
He wasn't too surprised when no one around him looked particularly enthused at this kind of declaration, they were all thinking the same as him, it's not like Sirius was going to be there.
She left then, Harry gaping in surprise that she actually thought the Dursleys would make an appearance.
"Somewhere in there is a really good question about whether Muggles would be allowed to attend this," Remus sneered.
"My best guess is still a not," Lily snarled. The only thing she'd ever even heard of coming close to this was a mention of Moaning Myrtle's parents coming up to school, and even then they'd never gotten confirmation of whether the girl was Muggleborn and this would be a problem, and if it was if they would have met outside the school premises...and all of this had nothing to do with the fact that the Dursleys would sooner make an appearance than hug Hagrid.
Ron gave a shrug, but then had to excuse himself to go off to his test.
Harry finished his breakfast slowly as the rest of the Hall emptied as well. He watched his fellow Champions making their way to that door behind the staff table, but Harry wasn't even going to bother poking his head in. He had no family-
Lily's voice gained a terrible hitch, but she forced herself to read past that moment and pretend like it never happened. Her Hare Bare was here with her now, he had all the family he could ever want, and damn these books for saying otherwise.
at least none who would turn up to see him risk his life.
Remus was twisting the sleeve of his robes down so hard, a few loose strings were appearing, that didn't change how bad this hurt. It had only just occurred to him, but he'd never even sent Harry a concerned note about him being in the Tournament. He'd had a million opportunities since his departure, and had never once reached out to try and be any part of Harry's life. There was a better chance of the Dursley's making an appearance than him by this point.
As Harry was finally leaving, thoughts of going to the library himself to do some hex research,
"That's what I always want to do whenever I think of those Muggles," Sirius snapped.
the door opened and Cedric told Harry to hurry up, they were waiting on him.
"They?" everyone repeated in shock, their mind floundering to come up with any good explanations for who this could be, and just as equally hurt that it was so confusing anyone would show up.
Utterly perplexed, Harry changed directions. The Dursleys couldn't possibly be here, could they?
James struggled hard to get the words out, "did you want them to be?"
Harry sat there for a long time in silence, his mind suddenly back to three years old and trying to ask his Aunt Petunia why they never said they loved him like they did to Dudley all the time, and only getting the same response he ever did, 'don't ask questions.' He knew for a long time in his childhood some part of him had wanted to understand why he'd never been cared for, and then he'd gotten his answer, so he responded with clear sincerity, "sure, would finally be able to curse them and not get in trouble."
The honestly unexpected joke caused them all to crack up laughing, hard. Harry making light of this was a blow none of them could gloss over, it would never not incite murder in all of them at the mention of those useless beings, but at least the bright smile he got for making them laugh felt worth it.
Inside was Krum talking to a dark haired man who Krum held similar features with, and a woman, all three speaking Bulgarian. Fleur was off to one side jabbering in French with a beautiful woman who had to be her mother, and Gabrielle.
Sirius opened, then closed his mouth. Remarkably thought about it for a moment, then decided screw it and really did ask, "How exactly is she part veela? I mean, I've never even heard of how Veela reproduce, they're an all female species, so are they asexual unless they sleep with a wizard or?" He watched the others dumbfounded faces for a moment, before cracking a smile and saying, "what, don't tell me you haven't been wondering the same thing. Now I'm realizing, with her dad not being there, well-"
"Please stop," Lily practically begged. "One, it's none of your business Sirius, and two, we've no idea."
She actually paused like she expected, almost hopefully, someone to correct her, because she wasn't pretending to deny it was a good question.
Remus thought about it for a moment, stating, "The only facts I can offer is if you take a hair from a veela's head, they're said to die, but I somehow don't see Fleur speaking of her grandmother like that if she'd been killed, so most likely the veela pulled it out herself as a gift."
"That was not helpful, about anything," James pointed out.
Mrs. Weasley and Bill were standing in front of the fireplace, beaming at him.
Lily felt her voice tying off, equal amounts of annoyance and even hurt rearing up at Molly making an appearance for her baby after all the embarrassment and even idiotic ways she'd acted towards both him and Hermione this year, all while also just a warm flood of gratitude there was still someone out there looking out for Harry.
Her reaction was subtle to Harry's, who flushed in shock and began stammering something even he wasn't quite sure of. An apology to those around him, gratitude being the most dominant thing to him for even though he'd never said it aloud, throughout his years he'd pictured the Weasley's the closest thing he'd ever have to a family, he'd never realized they'd felt the same!
"How would they even have known to come?" James's voice sounded odd, but he genuinely seemed to be trying more for curiosity than what he knew his wife was feeling. "I mean, if the notice they could appear at the final task went out to families?"
"Maybe Dumbledore personally sent it?" Sirius tried, "I've no doubt he knows Harry spends the majority of his time at the Weasley's over the holidays, so kind of as a courtesy thing?"
"All that tells me," Remus was trying hard not to frown, "was that Dumbledore must have a good idea of Harry's feelings for the Dursleys though." His voice came out too sharp, he was still more frustrated with himself for being right about not being there than anything.
They all felt a lot of different things about this moment, but one look at Harry and suddenly they were almost at peace with it as well. This had to be the first time they'd seen that kind of smile on his face this whole time, the only moment that had come close was when his real relation to Sirius had been revealed, and that had been pretty muted compared to the following events. So Lily bit off the head of how she was really feeling about this, put it away in a corner for later, and managed to keep going with a true smile.
Mrs. Weasley shouted surprise at him.
"Understatement," Sirius muttered.
She gave him a kiss on the cheek as she explained they'd come to watch, while Bill asked how he was doing?
"Eh," James sighed, waving his hand vaguely, though Harry thought that was more to do with his actual answer than answering for Harry.
Charlie had told them all about that Horntail and how incredible he was.
"Charlie's the lucky one," Remus muttered under his breath, thinking so far no task had really gone well enough for any spectators to exactly be 'enjoying' these events, but that was probably just his personal opinion. He could only imagine picturing this through someone other than Harry, and it could sound like a bit more fun.
Fleur was eyeing Bill with great interest over her mother's shoulder.
Harry tried very hard to forcefully smother laughter for no real reason he could tell.
She clearly had no objection to long hair or earrings with fangs on them.
"A lot of girls don't," Sirius' grin flipped to saucy at once, "I considered getting one myself, though of course now I'd just be accused of doing it because of Bill."
"Yes Sirius," James said back deadpan, "every woman you meet will think the kid who's more like my babies age absolutely pulled this look first."
Sirius' smile actually brightened all the more.
Harry was thanking them both, muttering his surprise that for an actual moment he'd thought the Dursleys-
Mrs. Weasley cut him off by pursing her lips tight. She'd never said anything about them to Harry, but he always saw her eyes flash when they were mentioned.
"Remind me, how did she take the news of starving and bars?" Lily muttered, but there was no real ill will in there. She knew now like she had then she didn't blame Molly for this in the first place, Harry refused to say much of anything on them really, so Molly had slowly been drawing her own conclusions after that event. If it was even a portion of what she'd conjured up in believing Skeeter's stories about Harry and Hermione, Molly was still only hitting the tip of the iceberg when it came to the Dursleys.
Bill didn't seem to notice, as he began talking about how great it was to be back at the castle, he hadn't been here for five years.
"Wow so he's actually, eleven, now. Give or take a birthday, it's really hard to picture." Sirius said mostly to himself.
"I'm sure a lot of this'll be hard to picture if we ever get out of here," Remus rolled his eyes as just a few instances came to mind.
He asked about the Fat Lady still being Gryffindor's portrait, and Mrs. Weasley said she'd even been here in her time.
"I was under the impression she's always been the Gryffindor portrait," James agreed.
She used to give such telling offs when her and Arthur returned late-
Bill cut his mother off in surprise, asking what she was doing out of bed after hours?
"Well why'd he go cutting her off for!" Sirius yelped in protest. "That could have been some amazing fodder to use against his mother, especially if he passed it along to the twins next time she went off on them!"
"I don't even blame Bill," James shook his head, "remember when my dad tried to tell us about that time he turned McGonagall into a Pekingese. The idea just messed with my mind so much, I didn't want the material."
Sirius nodded in agreement.
Mrs. Weasley just grinned at her eldest, admitting she'd had a few late nights with her husband.
"I can't believe she's answering," Remus already looked traumatized, he got enough stories from Sirius that started like that to predict results.
"She is talking to her kids," Lily's cheeks were starting to tinge a little pink, and Harry no more wanted to know what she was thinking than whatever Mrs. Weasley was going to supply, "I'm sure it won't be explicit."
Arthur had been caught out, and he still had the marks Pringle had given him, that was the caretaker in their day.
"The bloody hell did Pringle do?" Sirius yelped in concern, it was really something when someone made Filch look like a kindness.
"I'm guessing rules were a bit more lax then," James said with honest pity. Arthur seemed like such a nice guy, he didn't want to imagine what had been done.
Bill changed topics by asking Harry for a tour, which he readily agreed to. They passed Amos Diggory and his wife on the way out, Amos stopping Harry.
"Oh not this again," Remus groaned.
"Harry's been neck and neck with him every step of the way," James's smile wasn't at all pleasant, "so he can't even say anything to you this time."
"I'm sure he'll still try to come up with something," Sirius rolled his eyes.
Asking if Harry felt as full of himself now that Cedric and him were tied?
"When's Harry ever been full of himself?" Lily snapped of no one. "If anything, he's the opposite."
Harry chose not to answer, half proving Lily's point.
Harry asked what he meant, and Cedric told him to ignore his father.
"I've been trying," Sirius scowled, "yet somehow I've had to hear him anyways."
"It's much more effective in person when you can either plug your ears or Silencio them," James agreed.
Explaining that he'd been sore about this since that first article when Skeeter had made it seem Harry was the only Hogwarts champion.
That did admittedly put them stumped for a moment, it was a valid point on Amos' part and would have infuriated anybody, but that still wasn't any reason to take it out on Harry!
Amos was being his usual boastful self as he slapped his son on the back, praising him for being so humble he hadn't corrected the papers, and how he had no doubts Cedric would win this thing! He'd beaten Harry once before.
Mrs. Weasley snapped at him that Skeeter was known for causing trouble,
"Well that was rich," Lily sniffed.
"Yet true," Harry also defended uneasily before he stopped to consider. Harry wasn't even sure why he should feel bad about correcting his Mum regarding Mrs. Weasley, but in any case, the only reaction Lily gave was a soft hum before she kept going.
and he should know better.
Mr. Diggory looked as though he was going to say something angry,
Harry looked ready to say something nasty right back, he knew he would not take kindly to anyone saying a bad word about Mrs. Weasley after what she'd done for him today!
but his wife laid a hand on his arm, and he instead turned away.
Then Harry realized that all thought of mothers was slowly starting to be erased from his mind, and instead a thick black pain was starting to trace every inch inside him. Something so bad he didn't even want to consider what it could mean, but it involved the Diggory's...
Harry had a fun filled morning as he strolled the grounds with the Weasley's, who greatly admired the carriage and ship. Mrs. Weasley was personally fascinated by the Whomping Willow
"Should have been torn up long before now," Remus muttered to himself.
and regaled them about the old gamekeeper Ogg.
"Well that's actually fascinating," Sirius said honestly, though it was hard to picture the grounds without the Willow.
"He's most likely the one who trained Hagrid," James agreed, "so I'd kind of like to hear about him just for that."
Harry asked how Percy was doing.
"Harry!" Sirius groaned, "we said we wanted to hear about old gamekeepers, what are you doing changing the subject?"
"I can tell you a few things Mrs. Weasley told me later about Ogg," Harry chuckled at their grumbling even while Lily ignored them.
Bill's first response was to say, not well.
That did catch their attention though. They may not like Percy much, but they didn't want to hear about anything bad happening to him.
He was in trouble at work for not realizing sooner something must be up with Crouch, and should have reported the instructions he'd been receiving and was now being questioned about it all.
"Uh oh," Remus muttered.
"Actually I'm really not sure what to think of that," Sirius ran his hand through his hair in thought. "Crouch was acting like a loon, I honestly think that had to be a progression over time, but really we haven't given this much thought. He's been acting odd for months now, but Percy was insisting he was just hunky dory."
"I think we can put that down to faulty information on Percy's part," James frowned, "for all we know, Crouch really has been acting worse and worse, but Percy was pretending otherwise."
They still had a lot more questions about what was really going on with Crouch, but studying Percy would help no one.
Percy was under a lot of stress and not being allowed to continue Crouch's job, not even as judge tonight.
"So who's going to?" Remus began to ask almost exactly as Lily finished.
Fudge would be instead.
"See, this is what your questions get you," Sirius laughed at Remus' eye roll.
No one yet noticed Harry starting to lose a drop of color at every word spoken closer to the start of this task, now with Fudge there... he was really starting to look terrible.
They went back inside for lunch, where they were joined by the rest of the Weasleys and Hermione. Mrs. Weasley asked Ron how his exam had gone, and he admitted he'd made up about half of it, but all the names were something like Urg the Unclean.
"I am fairly confident that's an actual name," Lily giggled.
"Boys quite brave himself to be admitting this to his mum," Remus agreed.
Halfway through the meal Harry remembered Hermione's sudden Skeeter inspiration,
"I haven't forgotten," Lily murmured eagerly, she'd love Hermione to say this in front of Molly in particular, if just a slight payback for that Easter egg.
but before he could ask Hermione shook her head and looked pointedly at Molly.
"Why wouldn't you tell in front of her?" Sirius pouted at once, they'd waited in suspension long enough for this treat, they wanted Skeeter to fall already, and if they knew anything about Hermione by now, they were sure she was at least onto something!
Harry seemed to have drawn Mrs. Weasley's attention onto Hermione though, and Molly greeted her very stiffly.
They all gave a grumpy little huff for that, how could she stand up to Diggory one moment and then be like this the next?
Hermione gave a friendly enough smile back, which was not returned.
Harry at once told her that Skeeter's story had been ridiculous, Hermione was not and had never been his girlfriend.
Sirius actually began applauding Harry, stating, "Look who can take a hint?"
Harry smacked his hands to get him to stop, but then Remus just kept going with that same smirk in place. "Well he's right, it's really saying something of you for stepping up and saying that, I can think of others who wouldn't have picked up on it."
Harry wasn't sure if he meant his own friends or Ron, but Harry still wanted to ignore the look he was getting so was more than grateful when Lily kept going hopefully.
Mrs. Weasley at once said she'd known that, but from then on she treated Hermione perfectly normal and polite.
No one could deny they were pleased, but it was still rather grating all the same as she hadn't even apologized.
Up at the staff table, all the judges seemed to be having a good enough time, except Fudge who was sitting right next to Maxime.
"Can't pretend to be disappointed," James curled his lip, thinking Fudge deserved it, the arrogant prick.
Maxime was concentrating on her plate, and Harry thought her eyes looked red.
"Should I be worried?" Remus said, and he actually did look it.
"Nah," Sirius tried to wave him off, "I'm sure she's had another lovers spat with Hagrid, and hopefully the big guy won again and he'll be along to dinner shortly." Even he didn't sound as confident as he wanted to, no one really wanted to think about Fudge actually trying to do something against Maxime for the wrong reasons.
Hagrid kept glancing along the table at her.
Sirius would have looked far more superior about being right if he wasn't just as relieved as everyone else.
There were more courses than usual but Harry, who was starting to feel really nervous now, didn't eat much.
"You'd think they'd take a hint," James muttered, thinking back to this time before the stupid tournament had even started and their own comments about how a feast should be held when there was a winner, not stress for all involved.
When the ceiling above finally began ebbing into dusk, Dumbledore rose to his feet, and silence fell at once.
Lily had to swallow very hard around a dry throat and even took a sip of water before she could force herself to continue, her only advantage being that finally this was the last one.
Harry had gone exceptionally quiet, only marginally playing along with the boys like usual, and the longer this carried on and the more sickly he kept looking, the harder it was to convince themselves that this should be an easy task.
He announced the third task would be starting in five minutes, and asked the contestants to go down now with Bagman.
Harry was wished luck on all sides as he joined the others, Bagman catching up to him at once and asking how he was feeling?
"Least this'll be the last time he asks you that," James muttered to himself.
Harry told he was alright, and for once it was the truth. He kept running down the list in his mind of all the spells he'd learned for this, and pleased he remembered every one.
"This has got to be worse than any pre-exam jitters," Remus agreed, though just as impressed that Harry had learned a lot in a short amount of time, all the more proof of what Harry's specialty in magic was in these spells.
Their Quidditch field was now completely unrecognizable, the twenty-foot-high hedge ran all the way around the edge of it.
James and Sirius gave an involuntary flinch at just the idea, wanting to sit and berate this stupid school for hours for using this stupid tournament anywhere near their field! They'd already been denied Quidditch this year, this felt like adding insult to injury! They both kept themselves at bay though because they kept hopping Harry would instead, no matter how obvious it was he was only half paying attention at best.
The stands began filling almost the moment the five were huddled around the entrance, and were also joined by Hagrid, Moody,
Harry felt himself shiver straight down to his bones as too many things tried to align themselves at once. Moody, Diggory's, Fudge, and that maze...
McGonagall, and Flitwick who were all wearing vests with bright red stars on them. McGonagall explained they would be patrolling the outskirts of the maze, and if at any time they wished to leave it they were to send up red sparks.
"That probably falls under automatic disqualification from the Cup though," Remus was clearly saying to himself, "so I cannot imagine anyone doing it."
Harry was wiping some sweat that was starting to appear, trying to get his mind to flip to any good thought, but all he could land on was when Hagrid had first taught him to do this his first time in the Forbidden Forest, and that was only making his feelings worse.
Bagman announced it was time to go, and added the Sonorous charm to his throat so that all could hear.
James muttered something inarticulate about better times at the World Cup, he'd much rather hear that all over again than this crappy version of a Cup.
He spoke grandly to the stands about how the final event of this Triwizard Tournament was coming to a close! Then he listed off the order the champions stood in.
Sirius really wanted to make a pompous remark about his proud school double beating out the others, but it would never erase the annoyance of Harry having to be in this at all.
The cheers and applause sent birds from the Forbidden Forest fluttering into the darkening sky.
"Congratulations," Remus snorted in surprise.
"Why are they holding this at dusk anyways?" James rolled his eyes at the idea, "there's a reason the other events were all held in the middle of the day."
"I suppose they would have put the same charm on the stands as they did during the lake event," Sirius shrugged, "but my best guess is that some of the things they did to the maze may have been time activated, or maybe some of the beasts Hagrid offered are nocturnal."
"Sirius I will make you read this if you don't stop putting ideas in my head," Lily threatened, causing Sirius to zip his mouth shut at once.
Bagman finally announced that on his whistle, Harry and Cedric would be allowed to enter. After a short countdown, the shrill noise rang, and the two were inside the maze.
Lily took another deep breath just as Harry exhaled his own, though both were at complete opposite mindsets by this point. Lily was almost happy to finally be doing this, the problem was nearly over, where Harry was fighting back the urge to scream the worst hadn't even begun.
The hedges were so high they seemed to block the rest of the world out, and either because of thickness or magic, no sound from the crowds came through.
"The second," they all muttered, still eyeing Harry with growing concern, but Remus still tried to keep a casual conversation as he said, "wouldn't want someone shouting and giving directions after all."
Harry vaguely acknowledged him with a hum.
Harry and Cedric were on even until they reached a split, where Harry went left, and Cedric right. Not long after, a second and then third whistle was heard, and all champions were in the maze.
The boys were really starting to get twitchy with nerves, all of them shifting around or fidgeting with whatnot. Harry had this air about him like they should be expecting an attack any second, and wasn't even trying to downplay it for once.
Harry kept looking behind him. The old feeling that he was being watched was upon him.
"I'm sure everyone in the maze feels like that," Sirius muttered.
Harry knew what he meant, but still the idea lingered, thinking he was being watched, but just by one, or maybe just one eye...
When Harry hit his next crossroads, he used his Point Me spell. As his goal was northwest, the wand turned compass pointing him north was the best way to find himself.
"That's brilliant," James's eyes lit, "you remember the direction you headed for when you first met Bagman on the field."
"It was the same time of day too, so that really was an advantage they gave you all," Sirius agreed.
Harry was having a hard time concentrating on a single word they were saying, his hand wrapped securely around his wand and very sure he never wanted to reach the center of this maze.
He took the turn that would lead him in that direction, and made several more without running into anything. He was starting to feel uneasy, thinking he should have hit an obstacle by now.
"I agree," Lily nodded, her fingers turning white she was clutching the book so hard for anything to jump out any second.
"I think it's another tactic," Remus muttered, "lull him into a false sense of security for the first half."
Harry had no idea why he wanted to correct Remus about that, instead something in him was convinced his own path was being altered and helped along, but of course no one would be doing that...
He should have found something by now, but perhaps this was a trap for a false sense of security.
"Hey look, Harry agrees with you," Sirius smirked.
Then he heard movement right behind him.
They all tensed at once with that, a crup appearing right now would have had them all freaking out.
He held out his wand, ready to attack, but its beam fell only upon Cedric,
"Gah," Sirius gasped, massaging roughly at his chest to keep his heart beat in rhythm. "I swear I'm going to kill that kid, he's been driving me cr-"
Harry cried out so loud that Sirius leapt away in shock while James accidentally shot a curse into the wall that caused it to sprout a white fur pelt. Harry noticed nothing as his hands curled into fists pressed against his pounding forehead.
"Merlin pup, I was kidding," Sirius tried to pacify while everyone was left a shaking mess, Harry still not registering a thing as he sat there staring at nothing and panting with exertion.
"Deep breath Harry," James soothed, ruffling up his hair and casting his mind around for any form of distraction. "If I knew Sirius' stupid humor was going to do this to you, I'd have turned him into a terrier already."
"That's insulting," Sirius pouted at him, "I'm a deerhound and proud of it."
"Is that what you tried to transfigure the wall into?" Remus asked curiously as he waved his own to put the pattern back.
"I still have small dogs on the brain," James admitted.
Harry actually managed a laugh for them, something about the thought of a terrier really did put him back in a good mood, but it didn't erase the haunted look behind his eyes.
Lily tried a different tactic, "I'm sure you're just worried about Cedric, perhaps something from your own time like you were with Ginny. Nothing's going to happen to Cedric now." Even to her own ears the words came out flat, it was so incredibly hard to downplay how much pain her baby was clearly in, how odd he'd been acting since he'd even first heard Cedric's name, but the thought of her fourteen year old actually knowing someone who had died during this tournament was nearly unbearable. He was just too young for that to be happening to him on top of everything else he'd been through. Still, he seemed to have marshaled himself, so whatever was fixing to happen she still kept the knowledge alive her baby was fine while she forced herself to keep going.
He came tumbling out of an adjacent path, and his sleeve was smoking.
"Sounds like he's having a blast," Sirius muttered to himself as he sunk back into his seat, trying to keep that one from Harry's ears so he didn't cause any more problems with the mention of this one.
He caught sight of Harry and quickly explained it had been a Skrewt and how enormous it was,
James opened then closed his mouth, a snappy little joke about how he wanted to kill Hagrid for putting those bleeding things into this on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't want to imagine what Harry's reaction could be next.
and just as quickly ran off.
Harry stepped up his pace a bit, he had no desire to run into that. Instead he turned down the opposite way Cedric had gone, and ran into a dementor.
Lily moaned under her breath, her hands beginning to shake as the fear of Harry having to relive that memory returned even if he could summon a patronus to get rid of them, the screaming that would start in his ears would always be an echo of the worst.
Reacting on instinct, Harry quickly summoned up the idea of himself celebrating with Ron and Hermione once this was all over to summon the spell Expecto Patronum.
Remus hummed softly to himself, he always enjoyed knowing what other people's memories were when they conjured that spell, and Remus was more than happy if this became a recurring one for Harry. They were familiar and a common presence in his life, while also always managing to create new and happy memories for Harry, a great bonus as using the same memory over and over had been known to start lacking in use after a time, as if repetitive dementors feeding on the one memory could actually deteriorate an older idea. He was so lost in his own thought he hardly paid attention as Lily went on, absolutely confident in Harry's ability to conquer this.
The silver stag appeared, stampeding down the hooded figure, which began to stumble back.
"Do what?" Sirius yelped in surprise.
"Um," Remus had to blink a moment in surprise to spin his brain back and catch up with what he'd only half herd. "Oh, yes, it must be a boggart then, that's the reaction it would have with a proper patronus on it, simply hovering and considering another attack."
Harry recognized that dementors never did such a thing, and realized this must be a boggart, so instead switched spells to Riddikulus.
It vanished with a loud crack and only a vapor of smoke left.
"Must have been a really weak boggart," James raised a brow at this. "You didn't even have to smirk at it, it simply vanished with the spell."
Harry nodded without answer, that feeling still lingering heavily in his chest about how this was too easy, how he was getting help, and still that extra layer that wouldn't leave him of something concerning Cedric.
The silver stag was already fading, but Harry wished it would stay, he'd have liked the company.
"Why didn't you just cast the spell again then?" Lily offered, "It will linger as long as you keep your happy thought in mind with purpose."
"Never practiced that," Harry said distantly, taking a deep rattling breath as that too seemed to hold some meaning to him, and he was truly going to be sick soon if the feeling didn't fade.
He kept pressing on, often running into dead ends and still going many directions without running into anything but always trying to go as north as possible, until finally he came across some golden mist.
Lily could practically feel her mind flipping through an old fifth year text as she blurted, "It's a good thing you don't have anything in your pockets, that sounds like Limbo Caligo, or Limbo Mist. Easy enough to get through even if you don't know the counter charm, Gravi."
"And how do you do that?" Sirius asked for Harry since he clearly wasn't going to do so himself, he was still too distracted, but even hearing them talk seemed to be keeping his eyes at least darting to each person as they spoke. Plus, not that he'd admit it, but Sirius honestly forgot.
"Determination," Lily smiled sweetly at her son, "you just have to be brave enough to realize this isn't magic that actually turns off gravity." She didn't need to even think if Harry would figure out this second option, any boy who jumped on the back of a mountain troll would certainly gamble the odds that was how this spell could be defeated.
"What about his glasses?" James asked in concern, pushing his own slightly up the bridge of his nose only for them to fall right back down.
Lily did acknowledge that could be a problem if he didn't react quick enough, but thankfully once the spell wore off they'd just fall right back beside him, hopefully undamaged, or at least he knew how to repair them now.
Harry went towards it cautiously, his first thought to put a spell through it to blast it away.
"Honestly, I'd try that first too," James chuckled.
He chose Reducto, but it merely glided through the twinkling haze without disruption.
"Still never hurts to try," Remus shrugged.
Harry tried to consider what would happen if he went through, or if he should double back.
Then he heard the scream.
Harry gave yet another horrible shiver for what that could mean, it was happening so often they were all starting to wonder if Harry was going to fall into an involuntary fit even if he was clearly trying his hardest not to touch his memories. This scream though wasn't the one Harry was fearing this night, and though he twisted in concern for Fleur, she wasn't the one in danger...
Harry called for Fleur, but received no answer. Taking a deep breath, he knew which direction he had to go through, and so began charging the enchantment.
Lily smiled and wanted to smack her son all at the same time. Even if she did know what this Charm was, she hated the idea of him just charging into anything, but also couldn't be more proud her's was a boy that never hesitated to help a person in need.
He hadn't made it halfway across when the world seemed to flip upside down, his shoes now rooted to the grass as he seemed to dangle out into oblivion, his reflexes the only thing saving his glasses from toppling into the stars.
"There's those Quidditch reflexes," James smiled, which vanished at once as Harry still wasn't focusing on anything in this room.
He could feel the blood pumping into his head, thinking that if he tried to move he'd fall off the earth forever.
Remus shivered in disgust, now vaguely remembering learning about this spell himself, but he'd thought about it in the classroom, where it sounded sort of funny to be dangling from the ceiling like this. Harry made it sound terrifying.
He tried to think of some way out of this, but the blood rush was hard to work through, did he dare move his foot?
"I'd really like to think Harry would realize they wouldn't actually put a spell in there that would kill you like that," Sirius sighed, "but now that I know those Skrewts are in there, I don't blame Harry."
He could still send up the sparks, surely someone would see them right side up and get him off this flipside earth.
Harry muttered something under his breath how he was wishing he'd picked that option, but it was at least some form of his communicating again.
He still felt that scream echoing in his head, and so taking one long deep breath, he wrenched his foot free.
Lily's smile widened, she really was just so impressed at her Hare Bare committing to something like that when less brave people would have coped out already. It helped she knew the end results and he'd be fine.
The world flipped right side up again, the moon and stars above having their ever friendly glow while the golden mist twinkled innocently behind him as he ran off.
"The most dangerous things are often the cute looking ones," Sirius grumbled in agreement, thankful Harry hadn't run across any sweet smelling plants from those greenhouses yet.
It was at the next junction he hesitated again, wondering why he'd never seen any sparks after Fleur's scream. Had she fought off whatever had caused it, or was so injured she couldn't reach her wand?
"Oh I'm sure it's not that bad," James twitched in unease.
Even as he kept through the shrubbery, in the very small back of his mind, he heard himself think 'one down.'
That caught Harry's attention full force, as he looked shameful and tried to utter an apology.
"Nah," Sirius waved him off, "I'm confident she's just fine, I'd be celebrating too."
Harry felt warmed and slightly more in control that his first instinct was finally to agree with that good news.
The cup had to be close by now, and for the first time since he'd heard about all of this, that image again appeared before his eyes. Rising from here in victory in front of the rest of the school...
Then Harry choked and instantly lost whatever small bit of color he'd gained, and no one could deny any more how confused and terrified they were at all of this. What the bloody hell happened in this maze that was affecting him so bad? Lily didn't want to keep going, it was clearly going to be traumatic for him to relearn, but then she comforted herself at least she was here now to help him through it, he was going to be fine, she had the proof in front of her.
Another long stretch of time passed again before he found his next run in, a Blast-Ended Skrewt.
"Oh joy." Remus meant to say that with sarcasm, anything that sent Cedric running like that couldn't be anything actually good, but he'd never deny his thirst for more knowledge about beasts, especially a new one like this. It was clearly bigger than the last time Harry had seen it, which meant more to hear about.
Cedric had not been exaggerating, it was enormous. Ten feet long, it now resembled a headless scorpion with a curled tail over its back.
"That is the scariest pink thing I have ever imagined," Sirius nodded to himself.
He at once shouted Stupefy!
"Stunners starting too nice," James frowned at the idea of anything that size approaching Harry.
It rebounded off the carapace and Harry only just ducked in time, but could still smell burning hair.
"Bloody hell, Hagrid really knows how to create some monsters," Remus' eyes widened even further.
"Maybe it has the same kind of weaknesses as acromantulas, and it's best to hit them on their underbellies," Sirius offered.
"Let's see if Harry thinks of that," Lily said with hope.
It had singed the top of his head.
"So fire can come out of both ends?" Remus sighed.
"Unless it tried farting in Harry's face," Sirius agreed.
"Nope, it fireballed me," Harry told, making all of them actually smile. It wasn't a happy image, but any normal response from him would be appreciated.
A jet of fire came out of the other end, surging it even faster towards him, and Harry kept trying to shoot off the Impedimenta.
"Well now you're panicking," James groaned, "using the same spell twice."
"Saying it louder hasn't ever made it better," Lily agreed, bite marks starting to appear on her lip from how often she was going at it.
The skrewt was practically on top of him when the spell finally landed a hit on its underbelly. Harry began edging backwards, then turned tail and ran as fast as he could, knowing that wouldn't last long.
"That is true," Sirius agreed, "but major credit to you, you've learned a very important lesson about a lot of creatures. Their weakness is usually their belly."
"I'll keep that in mind," Harry promised, wiping more sweat from his temple at another sharp stab telling him this would come back to him sooner than he'd think.
Harry lost track of his way a bit and had to carefully back track to be heading north again, when he heard another scream, this time much closer by as Cedric demanded what was going on.
Krum's voice rent the air as he yelled Crucio!
"K-Krum!" James yipped, entirely sure he'd heard wrong.
"I, wow he-" even Sirius looked stunned at this turn of events, his suspicions of Krum's headmaster really hadn't even lead him to believe the guy would use an Unforgivable Curse!
Harry was frowning so much deep lines were starting to appear in his face. Now he knew there was something off going on, something just plain wrong with this scene, and it wasn't the curse being used, but something to do with the real person giving it.
A horrible yell tore at the night from just one hedge over, but Harry kept sprinting up and down and couldn't find a way through! Finally he used the Reductor Curse, which only caused a very small hole to appear, but after much forcing his way through, he broke into the new path.
James was temporarily surprised to realize Harry hadn't just been doing this all along, he could have been blasting his way right to the center of the maze like that. Now wasn't really the time to be thinking about that though.
What he saw was Cedric, twitching on the ground, with Krum standing over him.
Lily's voice was quivering over every word now, after recently learning what would happen to Frank and Alice, that spell took on a whole new level of horrifying to her, something she hadn't previously thought possible.
Harry at once tried to put a spell on Krum, but the moment he caught sight of Harry, he tried to run.
"Run?" Sirius demanded brutally. "How do you curse someone like that one second and run the next, you'd think he'd just turn on Harry."
"Isn't everyone in the crowd watching this?" Remus reminded, "He should be disqualified immediately already. Merlin, someone could set a case for him being sent to Azkaban for using this, all for a bleeding Cup."
James was as blasted as the others at this turn of events, they'd really had nothing to see this coming, but even still he pointed out, "well it's good to know Krum really is a scumbag in on whatever plans been going around Harry this year, but I don't buy it Krum's behind everything, so let's let Lily stay on track."
Harry was saved yet another wave of pain from what he was sure was an inaccurate statement from his dad by at least being comforted by the end and agreeing.
Harry shot Stupefy
"That was a kindness," Sirius said darkly, but he supposed he'd be even more shocked if Harry had used anything else. He'd proved time and again he was too good a person to be throwing curses around, even to someone's back after they'd just used the worst kind.
which hit Krum in the small of his back. He face planted the grass while Harry ran to Cedric and asked how he was.
Harry made a soft whimpering noise he didn't even seem aware of, his body's way of trying to warn him he wouldn't have long to wonder just how bad that spell could hurt.
Cedric agreed he was fine while he uneasily got to his feet. Harry asked if he'd heard Fleur scream earlier as well, and Cedric thought Krum was responsible for her as well.
"I'm sure it was something else," Remus said instantly, "and she's still in the game." None of them wanted to consider otherwise, even Krum wouldn't Crucio someone into submission and leave them to die...right? Had they, and Hermione, and everyone been fooled so well?
Then Cedric suggested they should just leave him here and press on, but Harry corrected he was going to put red sparks above Krum, lest a skrewt eat him.
"There are worse fates," Sirius sneered even if he knew he wouldn't have disagreed with Harry.
Cedric muttered how he'd deserve it,
Sirius gave a soft laugh, he hadn't expected to be mimicking someone he'd been threatening so much lately, but still a bit pompous his point had been repeated.
but did indeed raise his own wand and put the sparks up. Then he turned to Harry and suggested they keep moving.
Harry was surprised for a moment, their having come together against Krum had temporarily distracted him they were opponents.
"Um, wow, yeah." James had to blink a few times to realize he needed to move past this moment no matter how badly it left a taste in his mouth. "Congratulations, Hogwarts won."
"That's all we wanted in the beginning," Lily sighed, wondering where all that good mood had gone, and how long it would take to come back.
The two went off together again, but split at the next fork. Harry traced his way through now very distracted, trying to understand why Krum would risk a sentence in Azkaban just for this tournament.
"I wouldn't have believed so," Remus agreed, wondering if Harry just wasn't putting together what they were thinking, Krum had been a part of the idea from the beginning of putting Harry into this task to hurt him...but then why hadn't he turned on Harry in that moment? Why had he in fact done the opposite?
He almost ran smack into a sphinx.
"Oh boy," James sighed.
"I never had the patience for these things and their riddles," Sirius agreed.
Remus hushed the other two, undeniable excitement lighting him as he got to hear about one of these in a new way, hear one of their riddles in as close to in person as he'd ever get.
It mostly resembled a lion in body, but with the head of a woman. The whole thing combined was eerily pretty.
Harry hesitated to raise his wand, as she was not crouching to spring,
"She won't do that until you get it wrong," Sirius muttered for Harry, who had gone back to only half listening again, Krum weighing back on his mind just like Cedric, and whatever was coming at the end of this.
but instead blocking his path.
She spoke to him in a throaty voice of how close to his goal he was, and Harry politely asked her to move.
Lily couldn't stop a surprised giggle busting out, quickly followed by all but Harry, who snapped back to here with a roll of his eyes. It had been worth a shot.
She instead explained how this would go. He could hear her riddle, and if guessed right, he could pass. If wrong, she would attack. If he gave no answer, she would let him leave without question.
"I wonder if someone like Dumbledore made a deal with this sphinx like he had the mermen," Remus mused. "In the wild, they're much less known for forewarning you like this, they simply see you, spring the riddle, and if you don't guess right they pounce."
"I can imagine that," Lily agreed happily, "so when she says she's going to attack you, she's most likely just going to chase until you send up the sparks."
Aside from that dragon, this Tournament really hadn't been as bad as they'd all been fearing. In fact it was the stuff outside of it which had really been the worst, could that be what was bothering Harry? Not the maze itself, but whatever happened after he got out? It wasn't exactly encouraging, but Harry was watching his mother with some delight again as she finished, "well never the less, I am hoping Harry at least hears the riddle, I love figuring those out."
Harry felt his stomach twist in concern, it was Hermione who was good at this type of thing.
"Sadly this isn't a buddy challenge," James gave a small smile, his mind going back to Harry's first year, and Hermione solving Snape's riddle. He hoped Harry had at least picked up some tips from her in the meantime.
Harry decided he wanted to hear the riddle, with the option in mind he could leave if he wanted to.
The sphinx took a seat and recited:
Insert sphinx riddle
Lily was actually smiling by the end, much to everyone's annoyance.
"I will never understand how you enjoy riddles and poems," Remus shook his head at her. "Sometimes the answers are so contrived."
Lily ignored him as she reread the riddle again to herself, then out loud, shushing whoever tried to speak up as she turned it all out, before speaking aloud, "well the first part's a bit hard to find an exact match, it seems broad but doable if you find at least one other part. The second is one I've seen hidden in other riddles, the letter d. The last bit is facing the same problem as the first, you need some kind of information to string them all together for the final answer. I'm wondering if it might rhyme with kiss, but no, the riddle feels complete by rhyming with this. Hum, so perhaps building from there, err something you wouldn't want to kiss with a d in it regarding a liar as well as a noise, no wait, err, person could be an actual-"
"Lily," James finally begged. "You know I love you, and honestly I'd love nothing more than to sit here and watch you puzzle this out, but don't you want to see how Harry does?" James had honestly meant it, he'd been sitting there with an old fond expression his friends had seen more times than they could count in school as he'd watched the love of his life go through all this in her own way. He had no doubts she would get there in the end, but Harry was starting to look sickly again at watching her even as he was smiling along.
Lily sighed, but gave in with minimal dispute.
Harry asked for it again more slowly, and his first response to something he didn't want to kiss was a Blast-Ended Skrewt.
Remus snorted with laughter even as Sirius got over his cackling and agreed, "Hey, it even fits the answer, the middle of middle and end of end, both could link into the name of that thing."
"I don't think so," Lily said critically, not at all laughing as she was still hovering over what this could be even as she read. "I don't see that being the answer."
James kept laughing all the harder for her taking this so seriously, but quietly enough she was ignoring him.
Still, he didn't feel that was actually the answer, so he began working out the clues, first thinking aloud how a person in disguise could be a liar, like an imposter, then quickly shouted at the sphinx that wasn't his guess!
"Yeah, it's probably safe to keep that clarified," Remus agreed.
Offering a few more options as well as a spy.
Lily hummed at the idea with approval, though wasn't entirely sure herself, and was glad Harry was tackling another one instead.
He had not a guess for what the second part could mean, and erred to himself aloud what the last thing of mend was.
Lily's mind finally gave a click as she uttered that noise aloud, putting all three pieces together, and suddenly beaming as she kept going, sounding happier right now than she had during any combined Tournament moments.
Then he asked for the last line.
"That second one really is easier to figure out if you're looking at the actual words instead of just saying them," Remus agreed over Lily's actually happy reading. They were all watching her with amusement now, as they realized she'd gotten it, but didn't bother asking her to share, if she was going to she would have.
Harry kept saying err aloud as he tried to figure out a sound he'd make for a hard to find word, then realized the exact noise he was making, err was a sound!
"You certainly say it enough," Sirius quipped.
Harry stuck his tongue out at him.
He tried tying his first and last clue together, muttering about a spy-er, spy-er, then yelping the answer spider!
"Don't you ever again try to say you're not smart," Lily praised, "that was brilliant love."
Harry was flushed at the praise, meeting her eyes and still never growing tired of watching the color match back. There was some small part of him, even underneath all the dread anger and fear he was holding for this night, that left him in no doubt that this one moment where he was sitting beside his father being praised by his mother would mean something incredibly special on this June night as well.
The sphinx smiled at him, and then stepped aside.
Harry thanked her as he dashed past, baffled at his own brilliance.
James threw his head back and laughed hard at that one, he'd had his own moments of that in his school when he'd come up with some brilliant on the spot moves, but nothing as clever as this.
Harry turned one last corner, and there it was at last, the Triwizard Cup gleaming on a plinth yards away.
Harry watched those around him light up, and for just that one moment he let himself feel that too. The feeling that this was all over, Harry had won, he was about to walk out victorious against all odds.
Suddenly a dark figure hurtled out onto the path in front of him.
Sirius snarled in frustration, there just always had to be that one more thing.
Cedric had arrived as well,
"Oh bloody hell," James yelped in outrage, he knew he'd be beyond furious if Cedric took this win now! Harry had come so close, he shouldn't have even been in here, yet despite everything he honestly deserved it more for all the crap he'd been through. Where were the brooms when you needed them? Harry'd have him beat in moments.
his legs were longer, he had the further advantage, and Harry realized that cup was lost.
"Then stun him!" Remus blurted as he bounced in place.
Harry just shook his head, realizing the thought wouldn't cross his mind, for that one moment he'd been going to let Cedric win...which flooded him with so much worry in that moment Harry knew he should have done just that, done everything in his power to stop Cedric getting to that Cup. Harry wasn't that petty though, he shouldn't care that much about winning...
Cedric only had eyes for the cup, and as Harry watched his precision, he saw what Cedric had not, a dark figure scuttling along about to collide right with him.
Harry called out a warning, and Cedric only had just enough time to dart to the side as a gigantic spider was on the path.
"Gah!" Lily screeched. "That blasted riddle was as much a warning! Curse Hagrid and those bleeding spiders." She kept reading too fast for anyone to say otherwise even if they'd wanted to.
Harry shot Stupefy at once, but all this achieved was drawing the arachnid's attention.
"Oh but there's the bright side, you got it coming towards you now!" Sirius mock cheered.
"Harry has an awful knack of doing that," James groaned.
Harry kept shooting curse after curse, but it was doing no good, and without a moment to run the pincers caught him up by the waist and began lowering him towards its mouth, and Harry screamed in pain.
Lily's voice was starting to hurt it was pitching so high in fear. It was such a contrast to how happy she'd been moments ago and seeing Harry's win in the light the differnce left them all lagging in shock of a proper emotion.
Harry could hear Cedric trying the same spells he had, to the same effect, so Harry desperately tried Expelliarmus.
"Credit for originality," Remus muttered, "I don't think anyone's ever tried disarming a spider."
The Disarming Spell finally did something, Harry was released, only to sail to the ground and crash on his bleeding leg. Being half under the creature's mandibles, he aimed for the belly and shouted Stupefy just as Cedric did the same.
Spells combined, the spider finally keeled over and crashed through a hedge.
Lily felt herself shaking back into the cushions in relief. This had to be over now, she couldn't imagine anything worse protecting the Cup.
Cedric called for Harry in concern, asking if the spider had landed on him?
"Cedric really is such a good guy," Sirius shook his head in fondness, "I can think of a dozen other people who would have gone on for the Cup. The moment he touched it the Tournament would have been over, it would have done Harry just as much good as sticking around helping him while also giving him the win."
Harry felt a sudden stinging in his eyes, unable to understand why he was happy for that one moment where Sirius had finally admitted he'd liked Cedric.
Harry called back at least that hadn't happened, while he inspected his leg. It was bleeding freely, and a black thick substance surrounded it were the pincers had torn the flesh.
"That would be the beginnings of a paralyzing secretion," Remus shivered, "so tell Cedric to hop along already and get you out of there before it sets in."
He tried heaving himself to his feet, but his ankle wouldn't support him, he'd certainly at least sprained it in his fall.
Cedric was weaving his way through the legs to Harry's side, while Harry demanded what he was doing, telling him to get on with it and go grab it.
Cedric took a deep breath,
"Oh he's not," James' started to smile.
and told Harry in thanks for saving Cedric twice in here, he'd let Harry have it.
"Oh but he is!" Sirius barked in triumph. "Finally, some proper payback for that dragon tip!"
Harry was rubbing at his leg as he remembered that pain, ignoring the both of them as he was now running an internal monologue of regret that he didn't leap at this opportunity on the spot and do just that, instead he just knew he'd argue the point with Cedric, and Cedric would pay for it.
Harry snapped back that wasn't how this worked. His leg was hurting him more every second, he pulled himself up and only stayed that way by support of a wall, full of regret Cedric had beaten him in this as much as he had with asking Cho to the ball.
Lily gave a soft sigh, wanting to give her son a hug for feeling so seconded by Cedric all year, and now was certainly the worst time.
Cedric tried to say otherwise, but Harry insisted he couldn't even try a race on this leg, it was Cedric's. Still he said no.
Remus couldn't help it, he was starting to laugh a bit at this exchange. When, in the Cup's history, had two champions ever reached it and then argued over who deserved it more? He thought both boys should take it now, it honestly seemed a way to make everyone happy.
Cedric pointed out how he wouldn't have even made it this far if Harry hadn't helped him out with the dragons.
"I'm positive no one would have," Sirius grumbled.
Harry snapped back he'd had help with that too, and that favor had been returned with the egg.
Cedric confessed he'd had help with that as well.
Harry felt like he was standing inside a church bell as it was being rung his head hurt so bad, he closed his eyes tight to try and convince his brain not to be the death of him for how badly he was aching because of all of this, but that helped nothing. It was much more soothing to keep his eyes open on his mother, a small smile lingering on her face as she kept going. No one seemed that surprised Cedric had gotten help in the first place, clearly everyone in the Tournament had been getting help from someone, it seemed perfectly natural to them.
Harry still pointed out that made them square.
Cedric wasn't having it, insisting he should have acted like Harry back in the second task and stayed behind for the other hostages, Harry should have flat out won that. Harry insisted he had just been the only one thick enough to take that song seriously.
"Now what did you go calling me thick for?" Sirius demanded, and was instantly concerned when for the first time Harry didn't smile at that. His eyes were glassy, his lips trembling as he was clearly using all his willpower to repress saying something. They were all starting to feel the beginnings of panic set in, what could be so bad about this? Lily was starting to rush a bit in getting this finished, hoping the problem once they got out of there really was something they could help Harry cope through.
Cedric still refused, walking farther and farther away from the prize, and Harry realized he was serious.
"No, I am!" Sirius tried again a little desperately, anything to snap Harry out of it, and it seemed to work for just a second as Harry glanced at his godfather, but it helped nothing with whatever was eating the poor boy alive. Was that guilt?
He was actively walking away from Hufflepuff glory the house had never seen, all while insisting it should be Harry's for the taking. He crossed his arms and met his eyes, absolutely decided.
"Well now we're all doomed," James tried to pop some humor as well which fell dead flat around him.
Harry looked past him to the cup, for one second the image again in his eyes of being lifted into a cheering crowd, Cho's shining eyes only on him and that gleaming cup.
"If Cho dumps Cedric for you, just because you won, I honestly won't approve," Lily grumbled to herself.
Just as quickly though, Harry blinked it all away, telling that they both would take it.
Harry moaned, tears trickling out of the corner of his eyes as he shook his head desperately, knowing he'd give anything to take that back.
Lily made to put the book down and go to her son, but Remus caught her and reminded her what always seemed to help him best when this was eating away at him. Get the memory over with. She didn't agree, nothing they could be getting to would make any of this feel better, but she saw just how little she had left, and she honestly wanted her completion to be done just to have the thing out of her hands.
Cedric at first could only splutter in surprise, but Harry insisted on the idea. It would still be a Hogwarts victory, they'd helped each other every step of the way, they both deserved it.
Cedric's eyes lit with delight, and he agreed to the idea, offering Harry a shoulder over to their prize. Harry took it, and the two awkwardly made their way into the slight glow, each grasping a handle.
Harry felt as if his world was crumbling down around him, that one last moment he had left of seeing that smile on Cedric's face, the triumph gleaming in his eyes as his fingers grasped that at the same moment as Harry's. A million regrets tumbled through him of why Harry hadn't just touched it one moment sooner, why he'd let this happen-
Instantly there was a jerk in his navel. His feet had left the ground. He could not release the Triwizard Cup; it was pulling him onward with Cedric at his side.
Harry lost his thin tether he'd been holding, and vomited.
HPHPHPHPHP
Just before anyone asks, I'm not going to bring up the 'why didn't they just put the portkey spell on any object' plot hole up until the end of the book, where there's just going to be a whole chapter curled around the many aspects of this particular book. If you send me a suggestion of what you want to see in said discussion, there's a chance I'll slip it in if I don't already have a better spot for it.
I recognize the next three chapters all kind of go together, and since they're relatively short compared to what I've been working with lately, I promise I'm not completely a monster. I will do my very best to get them up even quicker than my normal updating, so with any luck the next one will be up Tuesday.
Completely unrelated side note, has anyone else taken the WOMBAT test? If not, see

The commentary on these questions is hilarious, and I usually chose John/Steve's answers because they're sarcastic little shits like me, but Belinda embodies me a lot too.

The friendly Kook
Author’s Note: I’ve been thinking about this all day so I decided to write it myself. I haven’t written in years and the smut will most likely make you cringe but please bear with me and be nice 😊 Also let’s pretend Rafe hasn’t killed anyone in this scenario. Don’t kill me but I also think Rafe would be the type of guy to just do whatever he wants no matter what his girl says. Also I mean nothing by this story, I am just writing from experience. Do not let anyone pressure you, having sex at a certain age doesn’t mean anything. Be safe and happy. SORRY if I change a lot between I and you, I suck. (The gif is NOT mine!)
Summary: You’re a pogue, John B’s cousin (just turned 18) figuring life on the island as a pogue but also interested in the kooks, and get invited to a kook party at the end of the summer before heading off to college. You don’t want to start off as a virgin so it’s bothering you the whole time until Rafe notices and gets you to tell him what’s wrong so he offers to help you out.
Warnings: smut, underage partying, JIARA
You hadn’t seen your cousin John B since you were 10 and your dads forced you to get along. Before moving to Kildare, you had no idea what a kook or a pogue was, you were just kind of in between. You learned quickly you had to choose a side when you and your dad had to move down to live with John B after your uncle disappeared at sea. It was a no brainer in all the madness as the two sides of the island fought as you were loyal to John B and his friends, but you always wondered about the kooks. You had never said anything to the pogues about your lingering thoughts about your enemies until John B started dating Sarah Cameron. It seemed ok to say that you were team pogue and kook because Sarah and John B made it work. After months of long nights of illegal activities with the pogues, their union seemed to make things better between Figure Eight and the Cut. It had been months since any kooks and pogues got into any fights. That just meant there was more time for John B, Sarah, and Kie and JJ to fit in more quickies at the chateau, thinking Pope and I didn’t notice. Every teenager you hung out, kook or pogue, you knew for sure was having sex, except you. It always made you uneasy every time you’d see Kie fixing her hair or Sarah pulling up her top after being in John Bs and JJs rooms. It seemed so casual and easy, even though they’re with people they love. You’d be leaving the island for the first time in the last year in a few weeks to start college at the University of North Carolina. Instead of being excited for everything to come, you’d hoped that by the time you stepped off the island, you wouldn’t be a virgin.
“Hey y/n, if you drink too much tonight just stay at Sarah’s,” John B insisted. “Yes dad,” you responded sarcastically. Sarah and her kook friends were having a party tonight while the boys were going on a fishing trip. “Or if she takes too many lines of coke,” JJ chimed in while eating a sandwich. “She’s a big girl, boys. Now if you’d excuse us, our night away from boys begins now!” Sarah said as she pulled you towards her car. You waved to your cousin and the boys that have been like family this passed year as you drove towards figure eight. “After we pick up Kie, I need to outfit check you. This hot lacrosse player from UNC will be around tonight and god knows you need to mess up your dress a little.” You laughed off Sarah’s comment while you stared out the window, secretly nervous on the inside.
You didn’t want to be in the center of the party at the Cameron’s living room as people started to pile up with the sunset. It was better for you to slip downstairs when the house was full to be unnoticed, especially by Sarah and Kie. They were so rooting for you to hookup tonight making sure your boobs looked right and your makeup was perfect. You could never mention to them that you were nowhere near as experienced as they are. It always seemed that Sarah and Kie could be the ones to get you through a time like this in your life, but how could you talk to your friend about her sex life with your cousin and your other friend whose boyfriend is like your brother? You shrugged as you noticed only an hour had gone by. Topper and Kelce tried to keep you company but you were never fully there. You’d become good friends with the two kooks, but weren’t interested in their company tonight. The lemonade vodkas kept pouring down your throat by the hour. Every time you saw a couple that looked like they’d be heading upstairs soon, you poured another one feeling sorry for yourself. All things considering, you had so many things going for you, but you could only focus on one thing. An empty lounge chair finally became available, as you sat there, slumping in the chair, spilling your drink all over your tank top. A couple sat down a few feet away from you, already on top of each other. “This is not that kind of party!” you yelled, spitting your drink on the couple. Yeah you were a bit drunk already, but your aim was still good.
“Are you going to pay for those couch stains pogue?” you heard a deep voice behind you. “If I did, it would be to your daddy and not to you Rafe,” you replied quickly.
Rafe Cameron, Sarah’s brother, the rudest most obnoxious Figure Eight resident, is the only kook you couldn’t crack. He was a douche 24/7, does whatever he wants, and still hates pogues. He will tolerate a few, but never fails to get in a word. This would make him the worst person ever; had he not been built so beautifully. I wasn’t one to get carried away, but the drunker I got, the bluer his eyes got.
“I thought you were supposed to the quiet one? Y/n, what the hell is wrong with you tonight?”
“You have never literally ever asked me or anyone what is wrong.”
“You hang around my sister a lot, maybe I’m just interested.”
Sick and tired of Rafe’s usual shit, you grabbed your drink and got up, heading for the door until your drink dropped all over the floor.
“Hey y/n, we’re not done talking,” he said as Rafe pulled on your wrist.
“Either you leave me alone or get me another drink after you made me spill t,” you demanded
Rafe got close to your ear and whispered, “I noticed something was off with you from this afternoon with Sarah and Kiara. Tell me what’s wrong and I’ll let you go.”
Rafe was definitely drunk and high. Chances are he won’t remember shit about tonight. You let out a big sigh and opened your mouth.
“I’m worried,” you said looking at Rafe.
“Well no shit princess, worried about what?”
“It’s embarrassing. Knowing you, you’re going to make fun of me.”
“Well I can’t promise I won’t, but I’ll try not to.”
“It’s just that, I’m leaving for college in a few weeks and everyone else, even younger kids are way beyond me. It’s not like I haven’t tried or had offers before.”
Rafe wasn’t sure if it was the drugs or something else because he had no clue what y/n was talking about.
“John B, Sarah, Kie and JJ, hell even pope do it at least once a week and I’m over here pretending like I don’t notice shit waiting for it to happen for me.”
“What the hell are you saying?” Rafe asked until he noticed you watching that couple with their legs wrapped around each other.
“You got to be shitting me y/n?” Rafe laughed. “How are you in that pogue group and you haven’t popped your cherry yet, didn’t you just turn 18? Isn’t that half of what you Pogues do since they have no money for other shit?”
“See, I knew you’d be an asshole,” you said pushing your feet to the ground ready to leave until Rafe pulled you by the shoulder.
“Alright, alright. All I meant was that I find it hard to be believe that you haven’t had sex yet when you look like that,” Rafe said looking you up and down, emphasis on the that.
Rafe sure knew how to make you blush, sober or not. He had promised to leave you alone if you told him but now, you’re hoping he won’t. Asshole or not, he was still someone you had your eye on since day 1 on the island.
“Ok so what do I do about it?” you asked seriously. “It’s not that I haven’t had many chances, I just don’t want it to be with some random guy.”
You watched the party more as Rafe stared at you for a few minutes until he finally spoke up.
“Well, I can do it,” he said with confidence. “At least It wouldn’t be with a Pogue.”
“Come again?” your eyes said bulging out.
“I’m serious. I’m not some random, right? We’re in my house. Clearly you look good and I know you think I look good too,” he winked.
As much as you hated it, he was right about all those things. You didn’t want to lose the opportunity; it was now or never. His asshole meter didn’t matter. As long as he knew what to do, and the word around Kildare is that he knows everything and more.
“Ok,” you said quick enough. “In your room. But pay attention, I will not do anything I don’t like, you will wear a condom, and you will be gentle,” y/n demanded.
“Well in that case, you can’t tell Sarah, or your little poguies,” Rafe demanded.
“This is the last thing I will ever tell them. Or anyone,. Ever. ” you said.
Rafe rolled his eyes and took your hand, leading you to his bedroom.
Rafe when inside first, fixing some things off his bed. You were taking in his room when you heard the door lock and all of a sudden Rafe was towering behind you, breathing on your neck.
“You smell as good as I’ve always imagined,” he huffed.
Just the plain fact that Rafe was over 6 feet always got you going and now you know that he’s thought about you like this the way you thought about him. Now he was towering over you with his hands on your body. With his hands on your waist, he started kissing your neck and nibbling your ear.
‘You’ve always been the prettiest pogue y/n,” he said making you moan.
“If you don’t like it I’ll do something different, but I think you’ll like it,” he said tugging on your ponytail.
He stared deep into y/e/c, until he finally placed his lips onto yours. The kiss was deep and fast, harder than you thought but expected because of Rafe. His hands were roaming your body non stop until he heard you giggle.
“Yeah I’m sure it’s very funny that I’m already hard, but you won’t be laughing in a few minutes y/n.”
Rafe pulled you over to edge of his bed and he sat down motioning for you to come over.
“Start with my upper baby and work your way down, I’ll guide you,” Rafe instructed.
You wrapped your legs around Rafe’s torso and started kissing him until your hands found the hem of his polo and your tore it off him like your life depended on it which made him laugh. You pushed him down and began kissing him from his neck, to his nipples, to his groin area, causing him to shiver.”
“It’s a relief that you know how to do something y/n.”
Unbuckling his shorts, he was left only in his black boxers, his boner clearly visible and big, which made you a little nervous. You tugged them off until they were thrown to the other side of the room. You just watched him until he noticed what you were doing. Yeah you’d seem them before but only on videos, and Rafe’s was beyond any expectations you had. Just as you were about to grab his dick, he shooed your hand away.”
“Sweetheart, that’s level 2 stuff. You can play with me later,” he said winking.
Lifting you off your knees, he brought you onto the bed on your back. He wasted no time getting your shirt off, revealing you in your silk bra, boobs bulging out.
“I’m actually relieved no pogue has gotten to you yet. They’re not deserving of all you have to offer,” he whispered in your ears.
Before you knew it, not a single piece of clothing was seen on either of you. Rafe tried to grab all of your boobs into his hand, but they wouldn’t fit. He went right for the left nipple in his mouth as he massed the right with his hand. He continued to show you attention up there when he finally grabbed your lower region.
“That’s a real good sign baby, if you’re already this I’m going to fit inside you just fine.”
Your fingers rested in his hair as he started kissing down your stomach, earning more groans from you. Even by yourself you could never feel this way, and there was Rafe Cameron raising your heartbeat with this tongue. He made his way to your bottom all exposed, right in front of his face. With just one lick he made you moan so loud you could be heard over the music. He kept licking your spot that made you go so loud; you could feel him smiling into you. He had slurred some things here and there, but you were so high on his tongue you couldn’t focus on anything else. As you felt your breathing get heavier, you were yelling Rafe’s name louder and louder.
“Hold on a little more sweetheart, you’re about to cum for me.”
Too late. At the mention of the word cum you felt all the pleasure rushing through your body, legs shaking with Rafe’s head still in between your legs. Still in the moment, Rafe got up to watch you still shaking from what he did to you.
“It’s not over yet,” he said running over to his night stand. You were still so shocked at how Rafe made you cum, you weren’t even worried about him fitting inside you.
If there was a medal for putting on condoms, Rafe would win hands down. Before you knew it, he was on top of you again, holding your hand.
“I guess it’s different for every girl, but if you want me to stop just say so. You shook your head as he moved lower on your body. You could feel his tip hitting all parts of your core until he was right at your entrance. You felt him push in slowly and it was like nothing you never felt before. He had been gentle, but he was still tearing through you. He started to move faster as the scratching of his back made him think to move more.
“You promise this is alright,” Rafe said in between breaths.
“Just don’t stop until it’s over,” you managed to get out. Rafe wasn’t hurting you like you thought he would. Some people wouldn’t shut up about how painful it would be. It seemed extreme, but you also weren’t believing the 16-year-old who said her boyfriend rocked her world their first time.
In the crook of your neck Rafe whispered, “there’s not much left y/n. I’m sorry if you’re not going to cum but I sure as hell will.”
Out character you looked Rafe and in the eyes and said, “ cum all over me Rafe.”
Rafe completely lost it and you can tell he was done by all the swearing and the amount of times your name spilled from him mouth. Once his rhythm slowed down, he got up and got rid of the condom, collapsing next to you.
“You know that’s the first time I ever fucked a pogue,” he said smiling.
“Care to share any critiques Mr. Cameron?”
“Let’s just say I can find the time to come visit you at UNC in the fall.”

@lochnessies I didn’t want to reblog your post since it was long but if you don’t mind me adding my 2 cts to the Empire and your Empire essay
honestly i’m so glad i’m not the only one who nerded about the empire
I’m totally on board with your assertion about Agarthans and the Empire, the agarthans are the one who are the masterminds behind everything wrong happening in Fodlan (Nemesis 1 to Nemesis 2) and how the Empire who started good ended up being the decadent place we’re told about in-game that disappears in 75% of the endings.
However, I have several nitpicks or additions to make.
From the interview, apparently, humans already got their hand on “relics” before Nemesis pulled his stunt. Nemesis wanted to most powerful weapon available, so he ended up tearing Sothis, the leader of the nabateans, apart.
In the fake Church-approved story, Nemesis was king of the Liberation because he got rid of invaders coming from the North. We actually don’t know why the guy styled himself as “King of Liberation”, he apparently wanted to get rid of “liars” in his info blurb in VW, but then in the same route, when Billy fights against Maurice, Maurice asks if Billy’s come to “liberate” him... From this, I’m assuming Maurice, a former Elite, thinks “Liberation” is some sort of euphemism for death or a merciful death, idk. Bar Edel’s story, there is no real clues in game, or even outside, that Nemesis wanted to get rid of “divine beings”. I personally think he wanted to be the strongest so if lizards had to die for this then so be it, but bar that? I have no ideas about his own, personal motivations (save for “Thales’n’pals asked me to do it and they seemed so nice so I did it”).
Wilhelm Paul Hresvelg being one of Nemesis’s men who was lured away by Seiros and her dragon bros is a take that is very prevalent in the fandom, but has no basis in the game.
The Adrestian Empire officially existed in 0 when Seiros crowned the guy, but Enbarr was chosen as its capital because it was the largest city. The War of Heroes “properly” started 3 decades later as Wilhelm wanted to unify the continent.
Lycaon I’s death heralds the end of the war, meaning Wilhelm died during the WoH. Apparently the Church of Seiros was created before the war, even before the Empire, by followers who were inspired by her miracles or something.
But yes, there used to be a religion before the “Church of Seiros” given how Seteth met his wife in a church in Enbarr, still I cannot say for sure it was here before the first Agarthian war.
Word of God also said Seiros and her friends rewrote history because the Elites and Nemesis were too popular at that time and she wanted to “quell the flames of war and chaos” and keep balance. Kind of unrelated, but given how Marianne is treated in Modern!Fodlan because her ancestor was a (literal) monster, if Seiros revealed the truth about Gloucester, Daphnel and their friends maybe Lorenz and Ingrid would be persecuted and hated like Marianne is...
I don’t have anything to add to the rest, but some tidbits regarding the Empire and what I could hc i mean interpret from them :
Apparently, in the jp version of Hanneman’s C support with Dorothea, Hanneman says in the beginning nobles were supposed to guide and protect people, but in Modern!Fodlan it’s now just a way to discriminate between nobles and non-nobles.
Maybe at its inception the Empire had this idea about what nobility meant, but with time, the notion became used as a tool and emptied of its original meaning, idk.
We also have the “Feast of Decadence” novel, it is fiction (apparently?) but the author, writing this book, thought it was perfectly normal to have northeners being torn apart in the background.
This novel is supposed to happen way after the WoH ended (the Emperor is Lycaon III and we know from Ferdie’s support with Edel (or was it in Feh??) that the Emperor in 100~ was a woman, so she couldn’t have been Lycaon II) but in this context it was normal to have slaughters during a feast celebrating the wedding of the new Emperor.
Given how Rhea has bad history with slaughters for “fun” (as far as she knows Nemesis had no reason to kill everyone in Zanado?) I am pretty sure that if she had been around for Wilhelm I’s wedding, this spectacle would never have happened. Same thing for Lycaon I, the two Emperor she’s sure to have met. Which signifies that either post-Rhea the Emperor thought it was fun to watch northeners suffer, which also adds another kind of discrimination between people from the North and those from the South or the author of this novel had a blood kink and thought it’d be a nice detail, or the author wrote this “decadent feast” to criticise the Empire.
Which ultimately leads to : During Lycaon III’s time, or shortly after, northeners being torn apart during the highest ceremonies were something that happened casually, or it was plausible enough that people from that time could believe it happened.
So combining Hanneman’s “at first nobility was supposed to be this but ended up twisted” and “people ate a lot of bread and fish in honour of Saint Cethleann it was wonderful and northerners were being torn apart and we all laughed” means that even before Ionius IX pulled his centralising policies in place, the Empire was heading down a dark path.
The Southern Church is banned in 1065, way after the Kingdom and the Alliance were recognised as independant nations. In some localised versions (the SP one I think?) it is explained they were banned because they led an insurrection.
So even before Ionius, we have the Empire growing intolerant to its own citizens, stopping being “nobles” in the first sense of the notion, and apparently their ally since creation leads an insurrection. Then, the agarthans happen and they wreck things.
If I had to compare, I’d say Ionius IX and his extreme policies (destroying Hrym and sending Agarthans to Ordelia, a territory in the Alliance, because they helped the people from Hrym) were inevitable since due to the Empire’s decadence, but Edel getting the means and opportunities to start her war was brought by the Agarthans.
It’s as if the Empire is going downhill and you can either choose to let it disappear (SS/AM/VW where the Empire doesn’t exist anymore, it crumbled) or go with it to the bottom of the hill (CF).
#pre imperial era#FE16#I might start an useless thoughts series about this game#Wow i love to talk about the empire especially about what happened before the game#i know most of it is headcanon land but still#i think the devs said Adrestia was based on Italy or something and i can't help but make the parallel with Rome#and the end of the holy roman empire#i wonder how rhea reacted seeing the empire she helped create fall and fall#until the southern branch was exiled#maybe she didn't care anymore?#iirc the 'glorious' adrestian empire in the history book is an addition from the localisation team

Rain Plays SWTOR: Macrobinoculars Solo (most of it) - Imperial Pt. 1
Buoyed by Viri's success soloing the Seeker Droid questline, I decided to tackle the Macrobinoculars. Please note: THE END OF THIS MISSION IS STILL NOT SOLOABLE. There is apparently one sequence in the final H4 where you need several people to click all the panels. However, the rest is soloable. If you want some challenging gameplay or something new to do in the game, there's still a lot to do here without tackling the final H4. Also note that even if you do not finish the final H4, as long as you do NOT abandon the quest, you can keep using your macrobinoculars. In fact, you can do that as soon as you pick them up in the beginning of the quest line. There are other quests and achievements you can do with the macrobinoculars, such as scanning all the MCR-99 droids on each planet, scanning the temples you can see from the Yavin 4 stronghold and doing GSI dailies on several worlds.
If you enjoy puzzles, you will love this questline. If not, there are thankfully several guides that can walk you through each puzzle. If you remember one thing, it's that everything can be a trap, you need to check the walls, ceilings and anything around for clues/clickables to proceed, and the solution that appears straightforward probably is not. Once again, I defer to Dulfy for walkthroughs and videos on how to beat the puzzles, and give you additional suggestions. This is Part I of the guide, and it is specific for Imperial-side players. Your first task with the macrobinoculars is to scan the Shroud's monitoring devices around the galaxy. It's far easier than the Dread Seeds search. If you've played the Ziost daily area, the Ossus daily area or some of the Onderon quests, you've already used macrobinoculars. If this is your first time with the macrobinoculars- right click to activate the binoculars (they are in your mission items tab. You can also drag them to a quickbar, which is a good idea to get to them quickly). Once you activate the binoculars, you can scroll around to survey the area. Targets that are scannable will light up yellow. Left click to zoom in and scan. Click again to zoom out. ESC to put away your binoculars.
You’ll start by being asked to scan several locations marked on your map. Move your camera around until you see a yellow blinking item (it may or may not look like the example) and then zoom in to scan. Dromund Kaas - scanning - QT to Tempest. One objective is down at the Unfinished Colossus and the other is on one of the nearby lightning spires. - QT to the Spaceport. - QT to the Nexus Room cantina, and then walk over to the launchpad for the nearby taxi. You'll get a good view from there. Shroud of Ruin temple How to get there: Pick up the Shadow Spawn heroic and use the provided shuttle/QT. The temple you need is all the way in the back of that heroic area. There are a few jumps to get to the right level of the temple but they aren't too bad overall. There's no threat of death or even damage if you fall and have to try again.
There are only two obstacles in this temple but the first can be frustrating. After you click a rock on the ceiling (mouse around to find it), some of the grids will periodically blink off and on (this is very slow- they don’t blink rapidly, if that is a concern. They go off, stay off for a few beats and then go back on). Make your way through the grid to get to the other side without touching the lasers. Touching the lasers is insta-death. Fortunately the respawn point/ medical droid is just upstairs from the grid so you don't have far to go if you get zapped. Tips: 1. Send your companion away. Put them on a crafting mission for ten minutes or so. They will not be able to follow you through the grid at your pace, so they'll just hit one of the lasers and die. 2. No fancy jumps, no rocket boost, no flair. Do NOT get too close to the lasers, and watch where you are running and jumping. 3. In some places, only one or two lines of the grid will flicker off. Be really careful walking through. 4. Once you finish the maze, you can turn it off completely by smashing the console you will see, but it’s really not necessary because you are almost done. It’s still cathartic to smash it.
The droid you have to face at the end of the hallway should be a snap. It's a garden variety NPC that doesn't seem much more complicated than the average silver, and he's on his own. You will then be sent off to scan targets on two more planets. Ambush Warning: After scanning targets on any of the planets from this point onward, you may be ambushed. It could be a droid and an enemy NPC that is found on that planet (rakghouls on Taris; a Wampa on Hoth). It could also be a gold-level droid, IR-77. I don't think it's a jump scare, but it's very sudden, so I'll mention it here.
Taris scanning:
- QT to 75th Legion Forward Camp. - QT to Crater Command Base. You can get to both of the targets in Olaris from here. - QT to Toxic Lake Garrison. This is the base you start at when you land on Taris so you shouldn't need to QT there, but it has a quick travel point in case you've done the others first. Tatooine scanning: A few of the target points are challenging to get to for Imperial players. - Mos Ila, relatively close to the taxi. There's a QT point there if you need it. - QT to Outpost Varath or Outpost Rennar, it's about halfway between the two, near the area with the Tusken Raiders and Mandalorian corpses. - QT to Mos Anek. Very close to the Lady of Pain area from the Bounty Hunter's class story. - QT to Outpost Zaroche. Unfortunately, the next target is in the Outlaw's Den. There's no way to see it from outside this area. I've read more than once that if you are on the PvE server, nobody can hurt you in the Outlaw's Den. Your companion will go away, but there's apparently no PvP. Still, I have had no way to confirm this firsthand, so I'd get in and out. - From there, continue through the Outlaw's Den to the north side and follow the road (filled with hostile NPCs unfortunately) to the mining company for the northernmost target. - QT to Ridgeside Sentry Post. You have a ways to go from here, but it's the closest Imperial travel point. Take the righthand road north at the fork. The lefthand side is more straightforward but goes through an area with a lot of Twin Suns enemy NPCs. The target is under the rock bridge near the Twin Suns. Quesh scanning: Quesh is small enough that you don't have to travel long to get just about anywhere, but here are the QT points in case you need them. - QT to Imperial Garrison OR Imperial Outpost. The target is about halfway between them in an area where a lot of the Imperial Quesh quests happen. - QT to Imperial Outpost. - From the second target, you will see a very small dotted line path that goes through a power plant. The first section has Republic hostile NPCs but the second section is friendly. This will take you to the other side of the map to get the third target.
Scratch the Surface - Quesh How to get there: As Dulfy notes, the map may be bugged. This is the map I got. As you see, the entrance is indicated all the way over on the far right. It's not there. QT back to the Imperial Garrison. The map should change. You need to climb the hill just outside the Garrison and follow the narrow, maze-like path through the stone walls to reach the instanced area.
Wrong map:
Here is the CORRECT map.
Once inside, remember everything is a trap and the solution usually is not straight combat or avoidance. There's always something clickable around that will help you get past each obstacle.
To throw the fruit at the Lurker, click on the gate panel. The key to getting past this electrified floor is to hit the panels on the ceiling that light up as clickables. After that, the floor will still electrify, but in a very predictable order.
This is the only panel on the first section of grid that will not be electrified. It's easy to spot because of the debris on it. Follow the electricity's pattern so you know when it's clear to run. Once you're there, mouse around the ceiling again for the second clickable panel.
This is the panel on the second section of the grid that is not electrified. Again, it's easy to spot because there's stuff on it. After this, you will need to follow the pattern of the electricity and make a break for the hallway.
You need to shut down the grid to proceed. However, if you step on the platform, you'll get shocked. Walk around the room to the back, where you will see a way to get under the panel. DO NOT WALK ON IT YET. Mouse around and you will find there's a panel that is clickable. Clicking on it will cut the electricity on the floor, allow you to walk in and shut down the second panel. Now you can go on the platform and shut down the grid. Pictured is STEP THREE. Do not go on this platform until you cut the power from underneath!
Then, it’s off for more scanning. Corellia - The first two are close to the spaceport and Incorporation Islands QT point. - QT to Axial Park South. - QT to Imperial Central Command (two are here) Hoth - Very close to Dorn Outpost, where you start out on Hoth. - QT to Thesh Outpost. - QT to Imperial Garrison. - QT to Jagged Hills Imperial Garrison, which is the northernmost Imperial travel point. From there, go left until you get to the Drift Hills Republic base and then north along the path. It's close to Republic Aurek Base. - From the point above, go to the right on the marked path. You want to be heading toward Outpost Cresh. When the road has a fork on the righthand side, take that, going south. The point you're looking for is under one of the bridges.
- QT to Frostwake Outpost and then go to the Starship Graveyard. - QT to Leth Outpost. It's very close to the base. Belsavis - QT to Imperial Frontline Camp. - QT to one of the outposts close to the Rakatan Transport network (Frontline Camp and Imperial Deep Launchpoint both work). Take the Rakatan Transport to the Imperial Power Center Transport. - From the point above, after you scan, go right back to the Rakatan Transporter. Take it to the Lower Prison Magma Transport stop. Follow the circular path to the Tomb and then find your path to the target from there. You want to do the Lower Prison Magma Transport target scan last because it will place you in just the right area for the next part of the questline.

So.....I just found out two of my basically a hippi friends is sort of a trump supporter now and I....I don’t know where to start?
Okay....so I live in Georgia but I used to live in Illinois and 3 of my friends up there are homeschooled hippish kids. you know vegetarian, vegans, doesn’t seem to trust vaccines but other times do. worked on pumpkin farm. really really good at tech and computers. a big fan of pokemon. very pro LGBT and all that jazz. I haven’t checked in on the sister yet but I checked with the guys a few days after the election and honestly while I wasn’t expecting them be in love with Joe Biden (He’s useful but lets face it no one is THAT enthusiastic for him....he’s better than trump but he’s no Bernie or Elizabeth warren when it comes to competency)....he was.....defending trump as the better canidate.....and I WANT to believe he is just joshing with me(he did trick me into believing he thought light was the good guy from death note instead of L).
but at this point its definitely not the case and I’m confused as all hell this happened...HOW did this happen? like he and his brother were basically bernie bro’s wo years ago the last time I checked and now they are defending trump?
I mean they brought up not trusting the main media because of the situation with the teens and the Native American that was clearly not researched enough before it was sent out into the world by any media outlit. and they brought up that trump has said he is against nazi’s and white supremacy but the media keeps asking him that question alot. even tried to use the good people on both sides bit to defend him by saying he did say nazi’s were bad before even though trump has clearly floundered n that question. even the north korean thing O.O
My sister got heated trying to understand how they feel about trump’s relationship with sexism. even the grab her by the pussy statement or the rape accusation by trumps ex wife or the many lady’s claiming it...or even the confirmed cheating scandals about trump. Like...I get that they said he is innocent until proven guilty...but they wouldn’t even acknowledge that its even having the accusations is sketchy even though they were creeped out by it two years ago!
they tried bringing up a kid who liked touching joe’s leg hair or the hair sniffing which IS creepy no doubt but not to the level of the guy who admitted he would go to the changing rooms of the teenagers in his pageants with the inspecting excuse. or talked about another man’s 14 year old daughter right infront of him. or talks about his own daughter like that.
I mean clearly there is some sexism thats creeped in because their instinct was to call my sister cuckoo and crazy or irrational because she got emotional and raised her voice when she said they them making light of the subject of the rape accusations against trump with no concern over how Trump’s history supports the lack of respect for the female gender as equals, makes her feel like if something of that nature happened to her they were letting her know she can’t trust them enough to let them know about it.
and while I get being shouted at can be uncomfortable.... is it normal to completely dismiss the point the other person was making just because the voice was raised? like somehow getting emotional or raising the voice can be seen as completely invalidating your point?
but they have been raised by a amazingly strong lady who is kind and creative and over powered medical issues and a kind smart father.
but now they are telling me that there is voter fraud in Georgia? when the REPUBLICANS are basically the ones in charge but still say there is no voter fraud? when we have had multiple recounts and everything matches up? when all the other states including Georgia have knocked down the voter fraud ideas themselves? like voter SUPPRESSION I can TOTALLY see happening. but they brought up the video that even fox news didn’t see as a thing. and they had even admitted they haven’t been keeping up with the news as well as they should.
I’m SERIOUSLY worried about these two. like one of them admitted that he might be in a bit of a echo chamber by getting his news from the internet so there IS hope...but like..........are other people baffled?
like I get it if you fell for the rhetoric before trump became president and just stuck with it. its horrible but admitting he is wrong and bad means accepting you supported terrible views and a bad man who has ruined america’s reputation around the world and hurt many people and broken the trust americans have worked hard to build with our allies. and accepting you supported bad things can be HARD to accept...
.....I mean you should accept it because its better for you to grow as a person than to cling to a carpet bagger like trump and his lackies who have hurt many many americans and non americans at this point and are willing to shit on the constitution.....
...but like I get that if you’ve clung on this long accepting it is going to be hard and hurt because no one likes getting tricked.....
....but like...these guys started falling for trump after becoming bernie bros O.O
AFTER Trump started fucking shit up and putting incompetent people into hos positions like his kids or that lady who tried to fuck with the special olympics and the dude who started fucking with out national forests to name a few.
I don’t.....I don’t understand how to even START breaking own their logic. They think America handled COVID BETTER than other countries O.O
BETTER! O.O
They started trying to throw numbers at me but I don’t understand where their numbers are coming from!
like I can understand if it was before trump was president for 4 years MAYBE because he was a loose cannon and people were desperate for anything different and if your desperate enough to turn a blind eye to the red flags everywhere...but we KNOW for CERTAINTY that trump is a shitty president now. O.O
The man got impeached and the senate chose not to listen to witnesses instead of trying to prove trump was innocent they decided to avoid the risk that he could be guilty which made him look even guiltier.
.....Does anyone have any clues? how have you all handled loved ones believing this stuff? like its not like I want them to not find issue with the other sides. others do have problems to be pointed out but its like they are completely ignoring the problems from trump and the republican side completely and its CREEPY.
Shouldn’t there be WARNING signs for these type of things?
where am I supposed to begin? we clearly have very different sources where we get our news and media so what if i give them a source they have already decided can’t be trusted? I know its not my job to convince them but they ARE my friends. I don’t want them to get sucked in and potential lose more views they used to support.
How did all of you handle finding out your loved ones got like this internet?
#trump#biden#bernie#warren#2020#hippie#help#surprise#notwhatIneededthisyear#will it be fixed if trump goes to jail?#trump supporter#How the hell?#I voted in georgia#not a democrat or republican because washington SAID there would be problems about voting your team#georgia#what do you do when you've realized your friends fell in quicksand without you noticing
